Human definately for m/m (and nothing too flamboyant either, Zevran was cool and all, but something different for a change...), human or asari for f/f. The character would probably end up being bi in any case, so it's all good.

I'm not really too picky I guess. I wouldn't mind a human or alien for either sex. If there is sex involved I'd prefer human however, but if it was just love then I'm cool with anything. I don't personally mind the bisexuality either unless it's like Zevran where they shove it in your face. Leliana's was well done, something like that.

But despite the absence of such, I'm not too miffed about (okay, fine, I am), because, after all, it is a role-playing game, and I won't let the game actual limitations restrict how I play my character. So I will be romancing these characters, it will just be my imagination. 

Just because it's not seen doesn't mean it's not there. My MaleShep could very well be romancing Garrus, it's just behind the scenes, that's all. The absence of evidence is not the evidence of absence. It's how I did it in the first game, so I may as well do the same in the sequel.

You may still get something like that. Nobody has said ANYTHING about Samara really. She's practically a ghost!

In Jade Empire, the male-protagonist had to turn down all the female potentials in order to start anything with Sky.  Could ME2 be like this?  If the Male!Shepard turns down Tali, Jack, and Miranda, will Garrus start to mack on him?

It's possible, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

F/F romance is definitely not in as it has been confirmed to be absent.

I was under the impression female Shepard could romance Kelly?  If they add an M/M romance in the future I don't really care how it's characterized as long as it's tastefully done (I was turned off to Zevran at first but I gave it a chance and the writers did a good job of moving the relationship beyond sex).

From the spoilers I've seen, it's a no go, I won't reveal what I saw, but I'm 98% sure she's not an option for either males or females

As someone else already said, Kelly is merely an upgrade of those Asari dancers in Choras Den.

I rewatched it and it seems that the video was taken post first romantic encounter. Maybe it's similar to Leliana who you could opt to "go to bed with" at any time after the initial romance. 

If the dialogue is good, that'll work for me.

See this is the mentality that I hate... I don't mind if people wanted same sex love interests, but at the cost of changing characters when it really doesn't suit their character whatsoever? Garrus/jacob? o.O they don't seem like they would go for that at all... Next people are gonna say they wanted grunt to softly kiss male shep, since what suits a character is no longer relevant.. Even tali for that matter.

I guess hollywood does have the right idea though. People don't care about genuine characters, just prostitute them out and people will be pleased.

Uhhh, six of the characters (nine if you include the previous LI's) are "prostituted" out already... You really think, realisticly which is what your arguing, that Garrus would go for any human?  Or Thane or Tali?  Your arguing about realism in a game where there is none to begin with...

Oh get over yourself. Throughout all of ME1 neither Garrus nor Tali gave any indications about their sexual orientations. You simply assume a character is straight unless A.) their personality is stereotypically homosexual, or B.) they specifically say that they are gay/bi

I don't think garrus or tali would or should for that matter, I think it was a mistake and well, 2 wrongs don't make a right, while i do think garrus or tali seem like they'd more realistically go for a straight relationship over a same sex, I would have prefered they both stay out of relationships altogether.

Thane, really tough to make a statement on it when i've mostly tried to avoid anything beyond character trailers.

I will say this, I think part of the overwhelming love for garrus and tali, is the result of building up feelings because they're unattainable in me1. I think continuing that would have been the best option.
