BIOWARE, it's 2010, players should have a same-sex romance option.

What is all this "don't force it" nonsense?

If Ashley had been a lesbian - would that have been "forcing" it? Is there anything about Ashley that says - this chick is STRAIGHT and if they made her a lesbian - wow, that really would have forced the issue.

That's exactly what I mean. It's quite obvious from Ashley's dialogue and your interactions with her that she's heterosexual. It would seem extremely odd and out of character for her to suddenly start cozying up to a female Shepard halfway through the game. If there is to be a homosexual love interest in the story (and I DO support the inclusion of one. See my sig!), make that love interest be a gay/lesbian/bisexual character from the start.

He's... scary.

Its like Canderous 2.0 but a British version. :o

And watch him not be romanceable just to break my heart just like Canderous. :(

Er...but there is evidence that Ashley might have been a bisexual LI from the start.  :/  They had the dialogue recorded and everything; they just cut it from the final version.

While cuddles are nice, it's kind of a "Who is this girl, and why is she groping me?" situation. Not exactly engaging. Huge step backwards for Bioware, especially when one of the reasons I'm taking IT in college was that I wanted to work for them because of their progressive attitude towards LGBT content in games.

True, although if you heard the dialogue for the proposed femshep, ashley romance and they did handle pretty well. SuZe actually supposedly is Bi, she's just not a femshep option...yet:devil:

Interesting... Ashley sort of came off as a religious bigot to me... which is why i went Liara with my male straight shepard. Not to say ashley was a bad character, I just don't see it with her.

That said I like the kelly thing actually... I might even pursue it with her with a female shepard because it seems kinda fun. I like the idea of li's outside of the squad. Even for more straight and same sex relationships.

Would be kinda cool if even though liara isn't in the squad you could email with her or whatever in a f/f romance type situation.

Yeah, it is a big step in the wrong direction, but their track record is better than any dev out there, and it is still in game to some degree so don't lose faith yet.:D

On an only vaguely related note, has anyone seen Mordin's fight for the lost vid yet? He says he killed an entire race, maybe the Krogan?

I think a lot of folks on both sides are missing how this problem was caused in the first place. Its not a matter of 'adding' anything to the game, or going out of their way to put things in the game when they have 'other things to focus on' or whatever. The romance with SuZe is IN THE GAME. The romance with Tali is IN THE GAME. The only reason FemShep players can't play those romances isn't because of anything Bioware DIDNT do, its because of what they DID do. They ACTIVELY PREVENTED FemShep players from playing those romances through 'gender flags' settings, its literally Bioware telling the game 'Dont let FemShep players do this romance, only let MaleShep players do it'. If they hadn't gone out of their way to prevent FemShep players from doing the romance, we could do it, and we wouldn't be complaining right now, we'd be as happy as everybody else about the game. They didnt have to add anything, or change anything, or be inconvenienced for one split second. We weren't asking for them to do ANYTHING AT ALL. All we wanted was for them to NOT TAKE IT AWAY from us. Its as simple as that, and thats what makes the whole thing so frustrating.

Even now, having gone out of their way to prevent FemShep players from having ANY female romance options and upsetting their fans for absolutely no reason whatsoever, if they were to decide they wanted to correct their mistake it wouldn't require anything dramatic like DLC or a ton of time and effort or whatever, it would be as simple as a single Bioware employee going into the game and changing the 'gender flags' settings and putting the new settings out in a patch. The whole problem could probably be solved in an hour or so, maybe even less. People wouldn't even have to download the patch if they didnt want to, so everybody on all sides of the issue would be happy. To me, thats what makes this whole problem/protest/controversy so insane. There was no reason for Bioware to ever cause this problem in the first place, and even having done so it would be SO EASY for them to fix it. Why does there have to be over 60 pages of comments and debate and arguments and all the rest of it, when this never should've been an issue in the first place, and could be fixed so very easily?

An excellent post SirGladiator. As you say removing the gender checks would completely solve the problem - in my experience Bioware writers generally script very little gender-specific dialogue. It would be a strong signal from Bioware to introduce an optional patch to this effect and probably would cause them a minimal amount of time and effort. How about it Bioware? Thanks in advance :)

To jselene and ERJAK2:

Ah, really? I wasn't aware of that. >.> (Although I was aware of the 'Kaidan serving under you' dialogue for the male Shepard!) I retract my previous statements regarding Ashley then.

I've been saying this for a long, long time. A same sex romance DLC would take... about a week. Again, if modders can do it, professional video game designers can do it.

I decided to add it in my signature, I'm certainly not as concerned as many people are... but the more I think about it the more i'm fairly certain they let the fox news people get to them, and when they win everything about progression is lost. :P

But good shep could make him love again! :innocent:

Though honestly KOTOR and JE I loved playing evil. Playing DA as an "evil" guy sucks hard. <_<

I could be friends with Zaeed. Real life or ME 2 universe. *shrug* Seems like a pretty nice guy, as long as you're not trying to kill him.

I'd be less than pleased with anyone trying to kill me/run away from me after they tried to kill me. Not sure if I'd shoot them in the knee, but I'd be tempted.

Ack, no, I don't want NPCs sexual identities to flip flop around depending on the PCs preference. It is cool to have gay/lesbian/or bi characters but the gender flags show the characters preference and add a layer of realism to the character.

Anywho, I have a question for everyone, if you had to pick 1 character to be bi/gay/lesbian who would it be and why?

Jacob - Because frankly he's my favorite character and I like his and M!Shep's interactions. Garrus for some odd reason doesn't seem to say as much. :? and the walkthrough I'm watching hasn't picked up Thane yet. It also doesn't seem hugely out of character. And Jacob meshes best with my uber sweet and caring Paragon!Shep.

Also (I SAW THE PARAGON HUG INTERRUPT <3 It's UBER sweet. If you want the link I'll post it (warning HUGE TALI SPOILERS) so yeah.

Subject Zero.... because it wouldn't contradict her character imo, it'd fit it.

Do you honestly care more about the realationship part of the game over the story and gameplay? Not saying that's a bad thing, it just doesn't seem to be a big part of the game.

Easy fix to that: say, if you are playing a girl, Jacob is straight, if a guy then Jacob is bi/gay.

Anywho, I have a question for everyone, if you had to pick 1 character to be bi/gay/lesbian who would it be and why?

Why just one? There is six love interests in the game. I say there would be two same sex romances per gender.

Want: Thane. Not only do I love his character, but he also seems to mesh best with my "gay" Shep's alignment. xD

Think: SuZy. I mean...her backstory. It makes sense!

I recall some devs saying that they noticed many fans enjoyed the relationship/character interactions so much and that was one of the main things they wanted to improve on and make even more in-depth. That's not per se love interests. but bioware stands apart because of it's ingame relationships being so well done, it only makes sense to magnify on it and for people to be upset when they don't get what they want.
