The reason I ask this is because depending on your choice, this not only affected what happens in Awakening, but it will inevitably affect DAI due to the Dragon Age Keep. I'm curious because depending on whether it's the Hero of Ferelden or the Orleisan Warden in his/her place, how "the Warden" is portrayed in DAI could be vastly different as a result. It could also determine whether we get closure on the Warden's story in Dragon Age or if it merely leaves it open for more questions. Depending on how this is addressed in DAI, the explanations could be significantly different in nature. Did your Warden live or die?
Who actually made the Ultimate Sacrifice in DAO?

Mine lived and became the Warden commander in Awakening. The canon storyline has the Warden dying killing the Archdemon.

The canon story is the default state at the Keep if I'm not mistaken.

most of my files i have the warden or alistair/loghain do the dark ritual, my main file that i plan on importing (choices i made in keep
) my warden did the dark ritual, but in some of my files i did the ultimate sacrifice.

Inevitably? That's a strong word. Just because something is in the Keep doesn't mean it will affect DA:I.
Granted, the fate of the Warden will very likely have its part to play in DA:I. But if it is anything like any of the other games that Bioware has used the Save Import with, this will be limited in scope, likely a Codex reference, slight dialogue change, maybe a side/fetch quest if it is truly a "large" choice. Expecting anything more than that is setting expectations too high.

there is no canon the default exist only to give choices that make the most sense to newcomers.
I was under the impression there was a canon for the books?

I did. The only reason I now have a warden that is still alive is the transfer feature in Awakening. I would have been perfectly content with playing the Orlesian warden, but all the choices didnt transfer from DAO to DA:A to DA2. Looks like Dragon Age keep may fix this though, so looks like I will be able to keep my original play through. Quite happy about that.

There are some choices, but while I have not read the newest book(or the pre-DAO books), asunder and the graphic novels never mentioned the warden being alive or dead, that I remember.

I have one world state where my Warden did it, and I also have one where Alistair did it.

I did on some. On other's I didn't. My canon Warden had Alistair do the DR and went on to be the WC in Amaranthine. I have 5 world states for import with different choices. The DR was done in 3 of them, Redeemer in one and US in the final one.

I've played many PTs for DA:O, and everytime I did both sides (Ultimate Sacrifice/Dark Ritual) just to get the saves files for DA2 import. However this is my head cannon:
- Lady Cousland: Dark Ritual (and become Queen Cousland)
- Lady Amell (human mage): Ultimate Sacrifice. Alistair + Anora rules together, romanced Leliana.
- Dalish Origin: Ultimage Sacrifice/Dark Ritual, can't choose. Anyway Alistair stays Warden.
- City Elf: Ultimate Sacrifice
I'm a sucker for bittersweet ending.
For DA:I, I'm going to use my mage playthrough (ultimate sacrifice, Leliana Romanced).

The only warden I have who made the ultimate sacrifice was one that continually made bad decisions, and spread mayhem and death. The only person to serve with him and survive was Loghain.

Nah, after I dumped Alistair, I slept with Morrigan and raise the baby together in the mirror.
Make that two of us.
It's been a loooong time since I played DAO, but I remember HATING Alistar... or at least my Warden did, haha. I gladly let him die off... who cares if he was the big hero, the Warden is still alive ![]()

All my wardens are alive because I formed weird, sentimental attachments to them.
