I have done the ultimate sacrifice once. Dwarf commoner. It was hard to see my girl laid out like that.

The reason I ask this is because depending on your choice, this not only affected what happens in Awakening, but it will inevitably affect DAI due to the Dragon Age Keep. I'm curious because depending on whether it's the Hero of Ferelden or the Orleisan Warden in his/her place, how "the Warden" is portrayed in DAI could be vastly different as a result. It could also determine whether we get closure on the Warden's story in Dragon Age or if it merely leaves it open for more questions. Depending on how this is addressed in DAI, the explanations could be significantly different in nature. Did your Warden live or die?

My Warden lived and married Alistair.

Ah, I forgot you could choose from a few. Still, I think it was mentioned somewhere that the novels canon was the Dalish elf.

This is a tweet from Mark Darrah but I think he's talking about DA:I.

My first run was a human mage that put Alistair on the throne and he dumped her.  After all that had gone so wrong she wasn't about to take a chance on some unproven sex magic so she was determined to sacrifice herself.  It seemed cruel and petty to leave Alistair out of the final battle, though, so she brought him along.  It was the first time a video game made me cry.

My noble dwarf put her life down as well, because it was her responsibility and she could hardly go home again.  Of course, she hardened Alistair, too, so he was okay with being king and wasn't as likely to make himself Archdemon chow.  She metagamed and left him at the gates, anyway...just in case.

My main is alive but i have one on playthrough where i did the US. But to be honest the story is heck of a lot better where you did the dark ritual and survived.

My canon run is a mage warden who did the US. She was followed by a Hawke who romanced Anders and executed him before siding with the mages. She was followed by my first Quizzie.

In short, my canon is always my first, unspoiled play through. I try to keep them tacked onto each other. Although with the Keep, I may do some mixing and matching in later DAI runs.

I've only managed to do it once, in my most recent play-through, and I've beat the game five times. I really feel sorry for my poor Warden in that one-- I played it through on nightmare, her love interest didn't work out (Alistair doesn't like Loghain being spared) and then at the end Morrigan, who she'd befriended, leaves her and she dies. That was bleak.

I can't make that play-through the one I use in Keep because I want to see my Warden show up in any small way at all in future games. Still, I do sometimes wonder whether making the Ultimate Sacrifice is better than undertaking the Dark Ritual? I mean, from their names alone... I don't really believe that they'd just give you an out which didn't come at a price.

Maybe Mythal/ Solas/ Fen'Harel is now more powerful because of the Old God Soul?

How could that be a good thing?

*worried face*

My dalish elf was not cool with the dark ritual or sharing her man so she sacrificed herself. I like how Morrigan counts this as betrayal after all the **** she did for her. "Killing" Flemeth, giving her the grimoire etc etc

I think it's better if the Warden does the U.S, tbh. I t really goes well with Lellianas story arc as well(especially if romanced).

Because of the imperium..... the elves people were destroyed when the imperium use the worship of the old gods many of them are dead in the Name of ANDHORAL ;urthemiel, zazikel,Dumat ecc...  the dalish people cannot forgive the imperium.

DR is always a dangerous path because is Flemeth idea and only a mad warden can take that choice without any good information of the witches plans

That is a contradiction, Flemeth is possessed by Mythal were the elves worship her as a god. So preserving the OG soul is important to achieve her goal help her people.

Well to ensure that Flemeth never find the child....... but hey it seems that is to late......   Flemeth have achieve her goal.

The child having the Old God's soul is irrelevant as long as everyone lives after the Blight.

My first Warden went US. The DR struck him (me?) as more of the same arrogance that had led to the Blights in the first place, and Anora was offering more of the unprincipled leadership that had nearly destroyed Ferelden. So there weren't a lot of options.

My first playthrough, my Warden made the ultimate sacrifice. Imported that world state, or as close as I could remember into my first DA:I Playthrough.

You know, I normally like bittersweet endings, but the ultimate sacrifice never appealed to me. Probably because I wanted to see where they were going with the old god baby, and I knew it would just be depressing to watch. It feels too final, somehow.

After seeing what happens in dai, it's seem doing the sacrifice is a bad idea.

So what do think of the reunion in Dai?

I liked it. Kieran was a little underwhelming, but to be fair, he's only ten. He's not going to be breathing flames yet. Curious to see where they'll go from here, what with all the branching storylines. Quite the Gordian knot plot.

My first DAO playthrough was US. Haven't reconfigured it in the Keep, but thinking about it.

Morrigan what surprised me the most in dai. I saw her becoming softer in dao:a when she went up and pet the dog. Then later when i saw her as a worried mother look for her lost son will to do anything to save him. She really changed. And then the irony, the fact that she spends most of her adult life trying to get away from her only to be tide to her for ever just because she really want to take a dip.

My warden romance Morrigan and did the DR, and followed her through the mirror. He knew she had a good heart, even if she came off otherwise. My hawke, well he was just a sarcastic flirt that hated Merill. Now Quizzy is a bit sarcastic but he's a faithful partner to Bull and, tries not to kill anyone unless he really has to.

Added by the fact that she is willing to be possessed but her mother said these quote: "a soul is not forced upon an unwilling, Morrigan. You are never in danger of me."

My very first DAO playthrough was a human noble male warrior that did the ultimate sacrifice. I romanced Leliana that game.

The one I filled in in the Keep though, was from another play through where I did the ritual and went the whole nine yards with Morrigan.

Eh? for all that i have seen it appears that Solas has eaten Urthemiel as if he was a breakfast (while mythal essence was saved) alongside with Flemeth, another reason to let someone  kill the archdemon in DAO.
I'm happy to have let Loghain his redemption, with his statue overlooking the Orlesian.

In my first playthrough, my Warden died. That was going to be my canon ending. But on one of my repeat playthroughs, I decided to spare Loghain just for the achievement and to see what happens. I ended up surprisingly gaining a little bit of respect for him. I decided that letting him do the sacrifice was a way for him to help atone for his sins. That my Warden got to live was a nice side benefit :). I liked how it turned out so I decided to make that my canon ending.
