I couldn't get over the destruction of the warden's soul either, so I never picked that option.

I did the US once for the achievement, but I'm not carrying that save over through the Keep. I just don't like the thought that the Warden gets their soul destroyed, denied even the afterlife despite...well, the Ultimate Sacrifice. I like happy endings and people getting rewarded--a Warden who dies to the archdemon gets neither.

My canon Warden was in love with Morrigan and a Dalish who saw the value in preserving old, lost things from history. He went through with it no questions asked, then left to help raise the kid. My other Wardens usually do it to support their friend or to save themselves/their lover. I think the only "imported" Warden who didn't was this big Chantry-extremist against any type of forbidden magic who had Loghain to throw at the archdemon.

A Dalish who decided to save an old god is a walking contradiction.

My elven mage made the ultimate sacrifice--and I  still haven't played Awakening as a result. First she was dumped by Alistair and then she died. :(

You know, none of my characters did it. Not because I didn't want them too, but because they just wouldn't have.

Magnus Amell(Male Human Mage) fell in love with Morrigan, so they performed the ritual.

Alastair fell in love with Lillith Surana(Female Elven Mage) and sacrificed himself for her.
Darrian Tabris(Male City Elf Warrior), with his hatred of humans, forced Loghain to slay the Archdemon as punishment for his betrayal.
Marcus Cousland(Male Human Noble Warrior), a womanizer, jumped at the chance when Morrigan offered the ritual, despite being with Leliana.

Duran Aeducan(Male Dwarven Noble Rogue) was the only one. Sacrificing himself for all of Thedas was his final example of the grand and selfless ruler Orzammar would have had, if Belan had not betrayed him.

Mine tried to leave Alistair when he said he'd take it for her. He did anyway... :(

@Aren: How so? The Dalish pride themselves on remembering and storing history; a Dalish Warden doesn't necessarily have to worship the Old Gods to see the value in preserving the soul of one.

I did on one of my 3 import saves. I always feel like the Dark Ritual is a terribly selfish thing to do (I play as HF, romancing Alistair) and it didn't sit right with me on any of the playthroughs, but I wanted to be Queen and live happily every after just once

The other playthrough I recruited Loghain and he made the killing blow.

Because of the imperium..... the elves people were destroyed when the imperium use the worship of the old gods many of them are dead in the Name of ANDHORAL ;urthemiel, zazikel,Dumat ecc...  the dalish people cannot forgive the imperium.

DR is always a dangerous path because is Flemeth idea and only a mad warden can take that choice without any good information of the witches plans

I very consciously planned out six of my seven wardens (the first was my canon playthrough), so I went for varied choices and endings.

Ultimate Sacrifice: Aedan Cousland (warrior sword and shield; romanced Leliana); Nesiren Mahariel (warrior archer; no gameplay romance, she was grieving Tamlen)
--In the way I've constructed my playthroughs, they're all paralell universes within a united multiverse; so no matter who makes the sacrifice, Gerod Caron is the Orlesian Warden who is sent to replace the Hero of Ferelden. He consistently makes the same choices no matter which universe when dealing with the Amaranthine Crisis--

Redeemer (Loghain makes the US): Neria Surana (entropic mage; in a romance with Zevran); Faren Brosca (dual wield Rogue; no gameplay romance, though I definitely have it in my head canon that him and Sigrun are a thing.)

Warden Commander (Alistair makes the US): Durin Aeducan (two handed warrior; no romance, though he had a son with Mardy). This was the worst ending imho, but I'm a total Alistair fangirl.

Dark Ritual: Darrian Tabris (archer rogue; in a relationship with Morrigan and followed her through the Eluvian); Elynna Amell (Elemental mage; King Alistair's mistress, also my canon warden)

While I was certainly trying to get all possible outcomes across all seven wardens, the choices were made according to characterization. Aedan is the sort of noble, self-sacrificing sort that 19th century romantics loved to write about. He was raised with a strong sense of duty, both to himself and to the Maker, which is why he falls for Leliana, sides with the Templars at the Circle of Magi, and why he would never do the Dark Ritual. He's also still deeply grieving his entire family-- and never realizes Fergus was indeed alive-- so some part of him embraces that death gladly; it was also that grief that pushed him to execute Loghain and eliminate that option. He put Alistair (with Anora) on the throne and wasn't about to let the king die on his watch. In his mind, Aedan had no choice but to sacrifice himself to stop the Archdemon.

Nesiren wasn't particularly noble-- merely tragic. She was primarily consumed by Tamlen's fate-- they had been promised and she truly cared for him. The encounter with him at the camp was particularly scarring for her as she had to kill him, which unhinged her a bit. The opportunity to embrace death without outright committing suicide was a welcome opportunity for her as she only sought to be united with him in death.

One of my wardens did that, a city elf romancing Alistair who then married Anora and became king. That was one sad playthrough.... :(

Incidentally, it's also world state I am importing first to DAI, and thanks to my Tabris-Warden being dead I was free to make Keep choices I would have never played otherwise (like stabbing Morrigan & saving only Vigil's Keep). Afterall, Orleasian Warden-Commander was never my character in first place and his/her choices were played as default in DA2.

That reminds me... was there ever word about who was Orleasian Warden-Commander in default world state? I mean, was it she or he, elf, human, dwarf?

My Warden lived, as did Loghain.  Anora became Queen.

I could see a need for Loghain, but Alastair irked me from start to finish as a wimp and a whiner.

This was the result on numerous play throughs.

I did few times.

Sad sad ending.... But worth it.

In DA keep I created 3 versions,
One where Mage warden died. (Romanced leliana)
One where elf had baby with Morrigan and went through the mirror
One where my warden became queen and stabbed Morrigan cuz she was a jello ****** and wanted child for herself lmao

I did it on every single playthrough. I just don't like loose ends. Alistair has a nation to rule, Loghain is a disgrace. Also the cinematic is beautiful.

Remember the Calling trailer? Ever since I'd seen that and learned the basic Warden lore behind it, I had been hoping for a last stand like that to be in the game. So I was absolutely thrilled when Riordan gave his "how to kill an Archdemon" speech, and I knew without a doubt that I would do it, because that was even better. As a player, I found it highly satisfying -- character death, mine or an NPC's, is perfectly fine when done well, and this certainly was. My character was human warrior, so she had that whole "we must do our duty" family background. Letting a friend (Alistair) die in her place never crossed her mind. Neither did sparing the traitor Loghain. And Morrigan? The less said about her the better. I spent the entire game loathing her because she was such a disruptive ass to everyone and I can't abide that when I'm trying to build a halfway cohesive "save the world" team. So the sacrifice was the only option. It's the perfect closure for this sort of story IMO.

Yeah, my cannon noble dwarf did the ultimate sacrifice. I think it is the best ending for that origin, because there family name is restored to them, and they become a paragon.

you can (for PC-version)  import the dead warden, change her background with the console command to orlesian warden then you can change her appearence with the face replacer mod

There are many compelling reasons to do the Dark Ritual. In most cases, it is the best way to get a "happy ending". That is precisely why it is such a heavy price to pay. It's a betrayal against the Wardens, and against the world. A Warden who does it is a fraud. Again, I am not dismissing the narrative value of the choice, the Warden tormented by their guilt to hunt down Morrigan makes for a good story.

Even if we are to believe that Morrigan has only the best intentions, I wouldn't trust anyone, no matter how powerful, to ensure that the darkspawn never find the child.

Well to ensure that Flemeth never find the child....... but hey it seems that is to late......   Flemeth have achieve her goal.

In one of my dozen playthroughs I sacrificed myself. Female dalish 2h warrior. Since I had planned on doing so, I at least didn't leave any lovers behind. She was single until the end.

I would've if my I knew my character didn't matter and I would never see him again.

It's Morrigans fault though.  I wanted to do so many things to her.....there wasn't enough time and I could never say no.

The canon story is the default state at the Keep if I'm not mistaken.

Canon story is human noble warden who romance morrigan and alistair as king. That's what I thought anyway.

THe default state at the Keep was just a preset the creators of the keep put in. Again, I could be wrong, but I'm lead to believe this because of past videos of DAO.

Hmm... the default storyline for DA2 was the Dalish Elf who sacrificed him/herself to defeat the Archdemon. I think it's the same for the Keep.

My canon Dalish play is ultimate sacrifice, personally I would have liked her to save Tamlen because she had no desire to save a world without Tamlen but the game wouldn't let me so I had no problems dying with that character because she wanted to be with Tamlen.
