Hello all

This is an aesthetic/development question but did BioWare use the same model for Solas and the male inquisi-elf(which I hope) or did the create a second one?

Because he kind of looks like skinny a teenager in the new videos, needless to say the rest of the game looks great.

ps. The vid I saw was from gamespot

I know, the elf inquisitor had extremely skinny arms. It looked like they were just bones under his clothes.

Companions apparently have unique body models from the Inquisitor body models.

The female is a lot worse, if you like more buff character go for male Qunari or Dwarf. At least the male side has options, believe me the female side has more or less the same arms for every race.

I don't necessarily want to play as Hulk Hogan or Vin Diesel(although his voice would be bad ass)

the were just to twig like for me "look he has two staffs under his shirt!.. Must be the best mage in all of Thedas"

I just saw him and felt like taking his lunch money.

Well you could go with human than, there are four types of male bodies. Tall and heavy for Qunari, short, fat and heavy for Dwarves, athletic and average for human and a little short and slim for elves. I really do not see the problem here, the male elves were never buff or athletic, this is not new.

You have options on the male side, why not enjoy them. I sure would if I had the same on the female side.

Elf -

Spoiler

Human -

Spoiler

As Mihura said, females seem to share arm size. Sooo, no elf alt for me. Qunari as my main, and 2nd character. 3rd Human warrior. 4th Dwarf named Torvin, after the Dwarf from Shadow of Mordor.

Aren't elves in most fantasy generally known for being slender and agile, rather than muscular and bulky?

True, they just look like an average man, but not as manly. DA's Elves tho.... SORRY DESIGN TEAM... look a little, anorexic.

I just saw the video the OP referred to and the only thing that comes to mind is, Wow, i knew elves were going to be slimmer then humans but this just killed any notion of me ever playing a male elf, i wouldn’t be surprised if his arms fell off mid game, hell if the the male's arms or so noodley thin then the female's must be paper thin.

I watch Outside Xbox play DAI. Jane was playing as a human, and her arms still looked like twigs.

Fantasy RPG elves are typically willowy and slender, yes.  That's quite common as far as tropes for elven races go, so it's not surprising if you play the genre as often as I do.

I will play as a male elf regardless of the disproportionately thin arms (the thighs look fine, it's just the arms really).  Sometimes I want to play as a thinner gentleman, yeah?  There's nothing wrong with that.  I do understand why some might not want to, I just personally like to play as "not buff guy" when I can.  There seems to be an abundance of idealizing the more muscular body types for males in video games and I sort of get sick of seeing men with the same defined builds.  :/

It was more of a rhetorical question.  I've been playing D&D for over 25 years now.  :P

I figure that is what makes this game really nice.  For body types, different strokes for different folks.

I'm okay with the elves having a slimmer build but man....those arms on the male and female elves.....*ergh*

I think my wrists have a larger circumference than those *clothed* biceps of either elf sex.

Well at least it's not just the women this time >.< BioWare usually makes the men beefy or athletic and gives the women stick think arms with zero muscle or fat. (which they still did in Inquisition lol)

I am all for agile and short (hell I love the dark elves of Skyrim) but in my personal opinion the contrast between male elf and male human is to wide, Solas looks good but the default elf is.. Well check out the vid and see if you agree, it's on gamespot.

*Too dense to notice rhetorical questions*

That's what I like about it, too.  While the body models aren't perfect, it's at least better than using a standard model for every race/gender and not offering a body slider.

So to the OP, if it bothers you, I guess you could play as a human/qunari/dwarf?  Or you could use armor that gives some bulk to your Inquisitor's arms.  The robes used in the demo made the arms look even smaller with how thick the smock was around the PC's middle, so I assume using more body type-flattering armors/robes would help to cover that up, if you were thirsty for that elf play through.
