Bioware just killed all my desire to play as an elf, especially a male elf.

They look like skeletons with flesh. They look like Gollum.

Sticking with Humans, Dwarves and Qunaris.

I don't know about you, but I'm glad we have a more slender build for men as a choice. I've gotten quite sick of only getting to choose from muscled guy, or even large muscled body builder guy, so I welcome the opportunity to be able to play someone different.

This isn't slender, this is skinny. Skinny as in model-kind of skinny.

Skinny as in elf kind of skinny.

Yeah, I get that. Still, by human standards, by our standards, they look anorexic.

Personally, it is off putting.

However, it shows that Bioware has been shrinking the body sizes of all races. Humans in DAO and Elves in DAO had more muscle. Humans in DAI seem to be a perfect mix of muscle and athletic look.

Elf -

Spoiler

Human -

Spoiler

As Mihura said, females seem to share arm size. Sooo, no elf alt for me. Qunari as my main, and 2nd character. 3rd Human warrior. 4th Dwarf named Torvin, after the Dwarf from Shadow of Mordor.

Looks to me like the male elf's arms are slightly bigger than the female's

Funny how people find the elves too slender.

I want to play human but find the human male model too beefy. I'm tall and slender/ripped IRL but might actually play an elf instead of human due to the male human being waaaay too broad-shouldered.

Male elf look like a 15 year old kid. It'll be very creepy to romance any characters.

i also thought it was dreadful. The male elves in DAO did infact look more buff, athletic and masculine, they were a perfect blend, with sort of like a swimmers physique. Its a shame they did this, facially the elves are a bit more in line with their DAO counterparts, but body wise they decided to stick, no pun intended, to the weird skinny elves with noodle arms and almost  non existent shoulders. Aside from the skinny arms, the entire upper body of the elves look wacky, i mean just look at how the shoulders are aimed inward toward the neck, its like they dont have any, but then the lower body looks relatively normal, which makes the contrast even more glaring. I still remember how odd the elf in that preview where they first introduced us to the advisors looked. Very skinny oddly shaped upper body with thicker legs and thighs, and the armor make this more apparent, with the huge boots she had on.

It isn't about being skinny or slender, the muscles look atrophic.

Keep up the body shaming, bsn. =]

Me? I'll be glad to play a hero that looks a little bit like me. In the absence of body sliders, I think it is a good thing that we can use the races to emulate different body types.

Like Screne said, DAO Elves were perfect. Their body had the athletic swimmer and parkour practitioner look.

The DAI Elves look like adolescent boys and girls. They look like 15 year old kids. I suppose this give them the ageless and androgynous looks but again, I do not like it. I do not want to look like a 15 year old kid trying to save the world.

This is not body shaming, they just look odd. They do not look very grown up. I have friends who are skinny but they are usually tall and/or willowy and they have decent shoulder size, like LOTR Elves.

The DAI Elves are short, anorexic and looks immature.

Look people. I really don't get this. The elves are pretty skinny. The qunari really are abnormally large. The humans really are all freakishly fit. The dwarves really are terribly squat. Why obsess about the elves? Because skinny dudes/dudedettes can't be heroes? Because they don't fit your stereotype? Hypertrophy is okay in heroes but be skinny and you need to gtfo? They're not  human so saying that they should be more buff because they hit stuff like 24/7 isn't really a valid argument. I dunno man. What is this life even about.

Elves have always been slender since Origins, so I'm not worried about that. But the pic of the female human arm is just freaky

I'd have preferred a middle view between their current model and The Human model. Or Solas' model (The same goes for female elves and Sera).
I understand why Bioware did this, and I'm glad some people are happy about The choice. I might have to change My first playthrough to Human and play an elf later though :(.

In the voice of the Mulan matchmaker, "Too skinny."  His clothing doesn't help.  I'm guessing they were trying for a more laidback plainclothes mage vibe, but it still looks like padded pajamas.

He doesn't not look fit.  There are skinny athletes, runners, swimmers, but they have athletic bodies that appear fit.  The elf looks underfed or sick.  It's distracting.  He's not just some guy- he's the leader of the Inquisition; he fights, he travels, he should look like he does those things.

I don't necessarily want to play as Hulk Hogan or Vin Diesel(although his voice would be bad ass)
the were just to twig like for me "look he has two staffs under his shirt!.. Must be the best mage in all of Thedas"

I just saw him and felt like taking his lunch money.

Lol your bad the mental picture is hilarious.

Yep !

To preface, I have nothing against skinny people.  I am thin myself, weighing in at 65kg and 1.65m in height. I also run and cycle. So I am thin but fit.

However, the Elves in DAI look like the unhealthy type of skinny people. I am not saying they should scrap it because it does make sense to be somewhat underfed if you are a wandering nomadic tribe. I am saying I will not be playing them because they look like that and because it is hard for me to relate to that.

I'm thinking it's the clothing that makes their arms look that small.

Pick here the female arms look normal.

Looks good to me, it's good to see some true differences between humans and elves besides scale.

And really, DAO is a bad example. As I recall, they were restricted to a single skeleton for humanoids and just used scaling to create differences. It was particularly nasty for human females (which is why they all had very pointy shoulders).

Clearly DA's elves (and this was obvious since DA2) are of the diminutive and slender types, which is a completely valid choice.
