Just wondering what you guys feel is proper as far as being a team player on gold matches.  I pretty much only play Gold now, and I almost always use equipment and end up using most of my consumables during the match.  I have noticed my supplies dwindling recently, especially medi-gels and some of my more frequently used items (power amp, pistol amp, cyclonic, etc.)  It's worth noting that I do rely on my teammates pretty heavily to try and avoid wasting medi-gels, usually waiting until the last second to use one unless it's an objective wave.  I think of myself as a total team player, but I also play pretty agressively, and in turn I can be known to get a little too cocky and go down quite a bit, though I tend to say near my mates so they can easily grab me.

After that lengthy preamble, I'd just like input on how you guys feel about stuff like this.  Would I be out of line to not use equipment (except for gear) on Gold runs if I'm comfortable with the class?  Is waiting to medi or bleeding out on the early waves douchey?  I never get bothered if others do it, but I understand why they would.  I usually try to judge whether I REALLY need to use it or not.  I also try to use my OSP's and Missiles before ever needing to medi, but it doesn't always work out.

The only time I get upset is if someone is playing an extrememly low level character with no gear and crap guns and expect the other 3 to carry them.  Sometimes it's fine, but sometimes it just makes it tedius.

Thanks in advance for the responses!

The rule of thumb around here is usually that anyone who takes the time to ask how to play in order to be a good teammate is over half-way to being a good teammate, already.

Being willing to use equipment and consumables for the sake of your team's success is probably the most important thing. Anything else is really just about being effective at what you do, which it sounds like you already are.

Etiquette as far as it goes for me:

- do objectives properly

- don't annoy me and keep half an inch from my ass

- if you have to nuke spawns on extraction, you better make sure they don't respawn on my ass

You do that, I couldn't care less about the rest.

Never gel on wave 1, alternatively, don't go down on wave 1. (Do as I say, not as I do) ;)

- Help for objectives ;

- Revive when you can ;

- Put on at least a gear and possibly some equipment (even a cryo ammo 1 is better than nothing), and use your consumables in game when it's needed.

If you do that, you're a good teammate for me.

About gelling, it's OK to not use a medi-gel in the first waves, especially if you haven't reached yet the maximal capacity.

You lash it, you kill it. No takebacks. Krogan headbutts. Jiggle the bumbum. Reserve rockets for Swarmers.

If you're running low on consumables there are a couple of things that can help.

1. Get Specter packs. They have a good amount of consumables in them and can still drop UR's.

2. Try using the headshot amps for a few games. It will actually make you better at aiming for headshots with the right weapons.

3. Do a silver game without consumables and buy a jumbo pack. Level 1-2 consumables are still decent on gold. They can also contain level 3 consumables.

4. Play a game with crashsuit and forget 1-3.

Playing gold with friends/teams is different than PUGs.  With friends you can do what you want (and agree to).  With PUGs, you have to deal with some players that don't do the objectives and/or don't equip consumables.  I may not be as willing to spend time to revive them if they don't seem to be cooperative.  That also means that I have to be ready to carry them (if I can); so I use good consumables, and high level weapons/characters when PUGging gold.  It's also more fun if the other players actually work together, but that's just a bonus...

ALWAYS RETURN THE HEADBUTT

ALWAYS

FOR TUCHANKA!!!!

Other than that I'm not fussed on what you do so long as your actions don't cause me to want to set fire to the human race because trying to outrun a Banshee by walking slowly toward it is a sign of Darwin speaking.

Do what you feel like doing. Personally the only things that annoy me on gold are missile glitchers, people that save missile for extraction when they could have helped in a hack or something (otherwise i don't care if they waste them at the end), people that grab the pizza then run around the map "helping" and don't just go drop it off.

While I agree with not using Flamer around teammates where you can blind them, I don't agree with not using it.  It's a quality skill!

I'm glad to see the consensus is pretty much what I expected.  I have almost 200 hours under my belt now but I still almost always just play pugs, only have a few friends who play the game.  I would say 75% of the games I play are with people who know what they're doing, but when people aren't helping with the objective it is the most maddening feeling!

Using no equipment makes you a douche.

Bleeding out unless the wave is nearly over makes you a douche.

Using Flamer/Snap freeze makes you a douche.

-Don't spam a Volus' Shield Boost and lock my character

-Nuke a large group of enemies when the opportunity presents itself

-When all others have been killed use your nukes to end the wave quickly, don't make them wait a long time

-Save some nukes for Wave 10

-Use equipment & gear

-Don't Host if your internet is crap

-Don't Host if your computer is ancient (PC specific)

-Don't rage gel, especially in earlier waves, you might need them in later waves

-Do objectives or cover your teammates while they are doing objectives

Geth bumbum > Drell bumbum

There's not much else I can say, OP. You seem to be a quite a good team player already. It's just a matter of learning/ predicting enemy spawn points so that you can position yourself better and not go down easily. And do as much damage as you can. Now that's a good team mate ^^

I guess the most important etiquette for me is helping with objectives i.e. providing cover for someone during devices especially on Dagger or Jade.

@Fiddles, *headbutts* :lol:

Don't missile glitch

Always help with the objectives and if yo go down on an objective wave and the team can't get to you use a gel.

(Now I know when you start out you only get 2 or 3 of each consumable, but use them when they count.)

Have fun and make sure you headbutt everybody when you're a Krogan.

Light melee team mates between waves. Headbutt is best but a good pistol whipping will do in a pinch.

Always missile Possessed Abominations that are humping your team mates.

Revive-and-move can be used to teabag team mates.

I created a game called Abomb Roulette. What you want to do is cast Dark Chanel on a Possessed Abomination and then just walk away. This is most fun on Glacier extraction.

Not sure it's etiquette as such, but regarding a few specifics you asked about:

Equipment will benefit any kit. If you play gold and silver regularly then you should at least have a healthy supply of level I equipment by now, which is better than nothing. No equipment at all usually smacks of someone looking to be carried.

You'll get used to the right and wrong time to gel- I'm not the best at this as hitting the gel as soon as I go down is becoming dangerously close to a reflex action. There's nothing wrong with waiting to the last minute to gel, in case someone can get to you. If you've gone down miles from anyone else, or surrounded by enemies or people have already bled out, consider gelling sooner.

As far as allowing yourself to bleed out goes, try to gel if it's early in the wave, but if it's close to the end of the wave and all your team mates are still standing it may be better to save that gel for later waves.

1. Make use of that feet and kick the butts off the grid those arseholes with low n7/CP who don't bother equipping stuff. Equip something please, even if it's just level 1 or 2 consumables. Even if you are God, it will make your Godly killing prowess more effective which WILL contribute to the team more positively. Most importantly, this gesture shows that you *respect* your team-mates.

2. If you are the host, don't stream porn WHEN YOU HAVE JUST COMPLETED WAVE 10 OBJECTIVE to minimize chance of disconnect.

3. GET IN THE BLOODY HACK CIRCLE.

4. Especially true in the PS3, eliminate the Praetorian with extreme prejudice. They are the biggest source of the infamous PS3 collector freeze.

5. Don't be stupid and missile those enemies already far away from you when you're drone-escorting because that arseholes WILL spawn in front of the drone path and the drone, being such a stupid ball, WILL walk nonchalantly towards them while chiming "Let me help" uselessly.

6. Don't gel if you are somehow downed in wave 1 or 2, unless it is *absolutely* necessary. I always speak "Don't gel" to my team-mates if they are downed in wave 1 or 2; the enemies are still relatively easy to defeat so it would be just a waste.

7. Don't revive people when there's a ScreamingNakedWitch or FlippingSamuraiWannabe nearby please. PLEASE.
