In a gold PUG lobby, I'll vote to kick anyone who readies up without putting on consumables.  If more than one does it, or if the other players don't kick them, I'll leave.  In practical terms this has paid off; since adopting that policy my gold PUGs have gone much, much more smoothly.  I don't care what level the consumables are, I just want to know everyone else has a stake in the match.

In silver or bronze I don't care, and I've never PUGged platinum.

You gel like I do: wait until the last second, unless it's an objective wave.

If you're playing gold matches and having trouble running out of consumables, just start buying a ton of jumbo packs.  You'll mostly get some level I's and II's but you'll max out on missiles, gels, etc. pretty quickly.  Once that happens, switch to the spectre packs.

As far as allowing yourself to bleed out goes, try to gel if it's early in the wave, but if it's close to the end of the wave and all your team mates are still standing it may be better to save that gel for later waves.

my pride won't allow me to do that, even if it's the last enemy.

I also like to let fly with wave 11 victory missiles. 99.9% of the time it's not because I'm trying to get points, it's just fun to shoot rockets everywhere and goof off for two minutes.

Neither will mine to be honest- I've gelled so many times only to hear the "one enemy left" announcement moments later, and sometimes afterwards if I don't trust my team. But for non serial rage Gellers I think it's sensible advice.

I know right! It's especially satisfying to nuke just a single trooper or bomber for that overkill effect but maybe that's just me!

As for etiquette try to get synergy with your team,if the other 3 peeps are running biotic classes then don't be the douche who plays an engineer!

In case you got downed and went to spectator mode help your teammates by watching their back and warn them if you've got a mic.

Don't Abomb troll those people doing the objectives, everyone else is fair game.

Don't kick someone from the lobby just coz they've got a low N7/Cp especially if they are putting a sincere effort(equipping consumables,PTFO etc).

And lastly return your headbutts as someone said because krogans can be touchy about that and besides it's fun!

1. Would I be out of line to not use equipment (except for gear) on Gold runs if I'm comfortable with the class?

2. Is waiting to medi or bleeding out on the early waves douchey?  I never get bothered if others do it, but I understand why they would.  I usually try to judge whether I REALLY need to use it or not.  I also try to use my OSP's and Missiles before ever needing to medi, but it doesn't always work out.

The only time I get upset is if someone is playing an extrememly low level character with no gear and crap guns and expect the other 3 to carry them.  Sometimes it's fine, but sometimes it just makes it tedius.

Thanks in advance for the responses!

1. Not exactly out of line in my book. I am used to folks not gearing up fully. If you can hold your own without significant problems and can contribute decently, I won´t mind. Though be prepared there are people who might see empty gear slot as a sign of "noob" or not fully commited player.

2. Again, I won´t mind unless it´s really crappy match and you bleeding out is putting serious strain on the rest of team (highly unlikely on early waves). Sometimes I bleed out on wave 1 or 2 too if things are looking ok. Plus if no one picks me up, it raises little red flag in regards to teamwork. If it feels like the rest of team won´t be helping each other, I might need all gels I have on later waves. So no need to waste them at the beginning.

On the topic of medi-gel, you should use them strategically.

Sometimes the best use is not to use them; e.g. wave almost over and teammates have it well in hand.

Sometimes the best use it to mash the omni-button to buy time for a teammate to clear the area around you and revive you, thus saving your medi-gel until the last possible moment. But you still end up using it because allies couldn't get to you for whatever reason.

Sometimes the best use is to gel immediately. Typically on objective waves because you don't want to distract your allies with trying to revive you. For example on a difficult Drone Escort or Hack, it's often worthwile to gel immediately upon dropping -- especially if you can do so before the "tick" that credits the team towards the Hack/Escort.

Obviously all of this is much easier to coordinate with a group that communicates on the microphone.

If I've just nuked an Atlas and one of those smug Combat Engineers comes round the corner there's only one thing that's gonna happen.

Buy up a bunch of Jumbo Packs until your Gel, Rockets, Ops Packs, and Thermal Clips are at 255.  During this process, you'll get loads of level 1-2 gear, which is perfectly fine for Gold.

Once you've got everything at 255, then you go on your Spectre Pack spending spree.  Since you've maxed out all that stuff, you get extra gear instead.

I don't care if Jumbo Packs are boring.  Do it.

Agreed. One should always let fly with victory missiles before final extraction.

If you know what I mean. And I think you do ;)

Everyone gets paid on objective waves, so focus on contributing with them. For hacks and escorts, always be present in the circle asap. For the other objectives, either focus on the pizza or devices, or draw aggro from those spots (without killing enemies, as they will only re-spawn in a spot probably worse for the objective)

Don't chinse out on using in game consumables, especially in later waves. Too many times games will wipe because that 1 or 2 players decided not to use a med-gel on wave 9, which is absurd, considering the extra credits received for completing the wave 10 objective.

Ammo, armor and weapon consumables plus gear makes a very large difference to players performance. Ammo being by far the most important, as these will provide combo detonation capability or armor mitigation or shield / barrier mitigation.

Having said that, I have started many accounts, and go to Gold by match 3-4. Most times I will not have gear or anything but 2 of each in game consumable. There are some kits experienced players can use to be effective without ammo / armor / weapon consumables, these are the HA, HE, phoenix kits, any flamer kit, slayer, shadow and to a lesser degree the Novaguard. Ammo and armor consumables always help though ...

It's actually rare for me to be kicked from a Gold lobby with no consumables, surprisingly; I certainly don't blame players when it does happen. One of the reasons I like joining a GIP on a new account so I can prove myself in game before we get back to the lobby and other see I have no gear or consumables.

But really, are any players in the know going to kick a low N7/CP player with no consumables with a name like 'WorkinAsIntended'?

USE consumables.  If you are getting low spend all credits from one gold mission to stock them up enough on consumables and not worry about the manifest for a game.  Zero excuse for not using Cryo ammo I, stability I or whatever you have hanging around.  If I am go into a lobby and see no consumables at all I know that person is not going to gel, not going rocket at all most likely and often will be a bit of a dog team mate.

Agreed. But I'm really only worried if one player has no consumables equipped, and that's the leader/host. Because 9 times out of ten, no equipment means they'll rage quit when things are tough, and I hate host migration.

I think pretty soon I'm gonna have to bite the bullet and buy a ton of Jumbo packs.  It's somewhat depressing using credits and not getting actual upgrades, but it's the only way!

That's not seeing it the right way. The consumables are an investment towards earning even more credits to get upgrades.

More credits because games will go faster so you earn more in the same time. More credits because you will keep better players in the lobby with you instead of having them leave because the lobby is full of people with no equipment. More credits because you will be more committed to the game and play harder. And you'll actually find that you enjoy it better that way.

JEPs are not worthwhile if you only want consumables; recruit packs are cheaper per consumable. Once you max each out to 255, then JEPs will give you eq in the consumables slot.

My tip for OP:

1) Do not rush blindly in to revive teammates. Check especially for  turrets, phantoms, etc. before reviving and take those out first.

2) (Assuming #1 is not an issue) If the teammate is about to get stomped and you have no way to stun the enemy instantly (with overload, ED, prox mine, etc.), start reviving immediately and it will prevent the stomp.
