In the long run, maxing your 4 consumables at 255 every time before buying 99k packs will save a lot of money.

Look at it this way: even if you don't want the extra stuff, you're paying 33k for 5 each of the 4 consumables. If you buy 99k packs without maxed consumables, one slot of every pack, or ~20k, will be used for 5 of just one consumable, so that those same 5 each of the 4 consumables that cost 33k from a jumbo will instead cost almost 80k from the 99k packs, a difference of 47k.

Every 8 99k packs, you're losing 94k on consumables, or almost the price of a 9th 99k pack. Of course if you max your consumables, that 94k isn't pure savings, as some of it would've gone to jumbo packs, but you'd still be saving money, plus you'd have a lot more level 1, 2, and 3 items to burn.

I think pretty soon I'm gonna have to bite the bullet and buy a ton of Jumbo packs. It's somewhat depressing using credits and not getting actual upgrades, but it's the only way!

I'm not sure what your situation is when it comes to gold tier weapon/character unlocks but vet packs are also a good alternative. You still get +3 consumable, +3 consumable, lv2 amp, lv2 amp, lv3 amp/silver tier unlock/gold tier unlock. And the beautiful thing is that if you playing on gold you get enough to buy 4 of them after each game. Lv 2 **** is sufficient for gold difficulty. The reason I favor vets over jumbos is because pack slots 3 & 4 are guaranteed Lv 2 amps and slot 5 is guaranteed Lv 3 amp if you have all gold Lv weapons/characters maxed out. Also if your in-game consumables are maxed slots 1&2 are also guaranteed Lv 2 amps. I like knowing what I'm going to get in vets over the usual Lv 1 crap I get from jumbos.

What the guys above said - buy jumbo packs to hit the magic number of consumables. Then your other packs will give you more bang for your buck. Gold is easy even with level 2 consumables, so long as you have one other decent player in the team. You don't need more than Claymore, Widow, Hornet or Mattock for Gold. Arc Pistol and Acolyte are also quite effective, though personally I prefer the black card pistols.

Other than that, I can only share my own philosophy - kill stuff with damage to spare.

Oh, and there is one exception to the "get in the hack circle" rule - that is when by standing at a specific place nearby you can cut it off as a spawning point and thus prevent your team from getting into a crossfire. It takes some experience to know on which maps and circles it's possible/practical.

This. Sometimes if your hack is in an open area it actually helps to run out and kill a scion or ravager that's about to tear your team a new one. If you're a melee or close range character it often helps to bait the Banshees and Praetorians away from the circle to give your team breathing room.

Speaking of buying packs, is there anyone who can set me up with a swiss bank account in a bronze lobby?

This is helpful!  I actually never knew if you maxed the consumables they would stop dropping.  I have only ever maxed the thermal clip packs so I guess I never noticed.  I am gonna do this.  It's gonna take a little while to build it up, but after doing the math, jumbo packs are the fastest way for sure.

You guys all rock!

Regarding consumables, yes you should use them. As for buying packs, buy whatever packs you're buying for weapons/mods (generally the lower-priced packs until you max out your uncommons & rares; although mixing in a few 99K packs can be fun) -- those will give you enough consumables. Don't worry about mass-buying JEPs to max out your ops / thermals / missiles / medi-gel, until much later.

If you completely run out of something (typically ops or medi-gel), then a JEP is a good way to quickly refill because it guarantees 5 of each. But otherwise I think you get enough from Veteran / Spectre packs.

Once you max all your Rares and start the UR grind, that's when it makes sense to keep things topped off with JEPs, so that your 99K pack purchases are maximally valuable.

The one thing I cannot stress enough is: Even if you're out of other stuff, EQUIP A GEAR BONUS.

Gear bonuses are NOT used up, so the only excuse to not use one is to not HAVE one! And if you don't HAVE one, get out of gold, please!

I'm guessing you're probably fine on this front, since you had the common decency to ask instead of just going "lol leech easy credits durr" like most people. So, yeah, you're probably okay.

Switch off of the N7 Paladin when boogie joins your lobby.

This is a gentleman's game after all.

I heard he's back in the game. Not going to officially retire until someone outscores his TGI Harrier
