Inquisitor compared to companions

Eksample: a mage inquisitor vs a mage companion? How much better will the inquisitor be? If you decide to make a rogue inquisitor will you miss out on the best mage in the game due to not having the mage inquisitor and the other way around?
In DA:2 there were alot of differences in the characters in balance, some characters were simply just useless compared to others and the main character were extremely much strenger than any of the companions.
Another eksample: if you choose to make a warrior inquisitor , and after a while decide that it wasnt the class for you. Is it possible to play a mage or rogue companion as a main character for the rest of the game or will it be much weaker Then if you were to have a rogue or mage inquisitor?
Companions and inquisitor of equal class with same attributes will they do the same damage? Or the inquisitor higher?

So I'm wondering about how much of a difference there is between a inquisitor and the different companions.

Guys I'm laughing way too hard at this whole thing
bahahhahahhaa
Answering the initial question: Anyway... um no I think the companions will be able to hold their own. But don't worry about what you're not getting when you pick a class and instead think about what you're able to do

Probaply main character will be OP compared to others depending how good you will build them. I just hope the companions are more balanced. In DA2 Merrill was useless without heal, Aveline didn't do any dmg, Varric was useless too. Anders and Fenris are pretty much must in the party, Anders being only one with heals and Fenris being only one who can both tank and do dmg.

Wut?
Varric was the best rogue companion his spec is what made him a beast and alongside Merril and Anders they are a force to be reckoned with.

I mean this is all based on build. Not fond of her, but with equipment to increase her blood magic and putting all points to constitution, she was a ridiculous never running out of mana killer mage. Aveline did little dmg at first, but build her right, and not only does she take no dmg, but she can take everyone else while people like Merrill kill them all. Varrics archery is pretty amazing with a good tank to keep people off him, it is why dex is so important and to keep him far from the fight, he can do nasty dmg. I will give you that Anders was necessary because he could heal.

I was less concerned about heal than I was about inflicting damage and crowd controlling, and to that end, Merrill served me well. Anders is always kicked out of my group by the halfway point of Act 2, so I didn't have access to a healer again until I took Bethany on the Legacy quest in Act 3, and with her force mage specialization, I found her immensely more fun to have. Aveline's usefulness lies in her ability to take everyone on without getting stunned and without getting knocked out, which she does much better than Fenris. I don't see how Varric can be useless, since Bianca is at the apex of ranged weaponry in the game. During his companion quests, I would simply control him so I can enjoy all that repeating crossbow goodness.

I plan to roll a human warrior Quizzie first for story reasons and play his love interest, Dorian, for the majority of the game. Do what you want. They'll be powerful anyway, if you spec them right.

My Wardens and my Hawkes were all better than the companions in gameplay, as it should be since the PC is always much stronger/more powerful than any of the companions

Except if you made a mage because Hawke could heal far better than Anders.

Lots of valid points already made. It will depend on the spec as well as the gear (crafting seems awesome and powerful).
I imagine most people tend to put all those little bonuses (extra skill points, maybe it will be perks in DA: I with the new progress systems outside of traditional leveling) onto their character instead of companions, so they should naturally be more powerful.
Like many, I am planning on multiple playthroughs and I plan to explore each class with their own playthrough. I may even try out each weapon style (sword and shield vs. two handed, daggers vs. bow).

Ssssh don't give away the most overpowered characters in the game we don't want nightmare mode in DA2 to cry anymore.
