Well don't look! You are supposed to look only at your beautiful Yandere, look! admire2-onion-head-emoticon.gif?12928624 Forget about everyone else, that's the only one you need!

Ehem.. anyway..

How about someone like Vaas? A little torture doesn't hurt:

Spoiler

I really wouldn't mind a friend or a LI like that, they would make my day. :D

XD yeah no thanks.

I don't recall much of FC3 really...but Vaas was awesome from what I recall. Died way too early.

XD yeah no thanks.

Trust me, that's not what you want to say.. that's not what you want to say at all..

Spoiler

Ehem..

But yeah, I really wouldn't mind someone who is immoral and easy-going. Someone who likes to torture people with a smile, while telling funny stories, who jokes about horrid acts of violence and death, and who is not afraid to die and doesn't get pissed of when something doesn't come out as planned or fails.

It very much is XD

I just want a driven, cunning and charming male character who doesn't have scruples in the way of getting what he wants. One who can agree with ruthless decisions (provided they're effective and not kicking puppies for lulz) because he'd make the same decisions in the PCs shoes. One that's not gonna be a woobie with a sad past or yet another knight in shining armor that glares at the PC whenever she dares do something cruel that is to her benefit. A equal partner not someone that needs to be comforted, taught or herded. Someone who has a decent sense of humor without being self depreciating. Someone without self esteem issues. Bah.

So, you guys know why you're never going to get these types of LIs, right? Two reasons: Gender-gates and Voice-Acting.

The resources used for making LIs are limited, as this is not a Romance sim. The developers have chosen to use those resources to focus on orientation, so different RL orientations have LI choices. Back when we had really dark LIs, we didn't also have LGBT LIs. so they could afford to make divergent Alignments in there companions and Romances, but at the cost of Gay and Lesbian LIs.

With fully Voiced companions in cinematic cut-scenes, you now have a staggering amount of resources spent on making Companions. Which means less Companions. How many Companions are recruitable in Baldur's Gate? 15? 20? A lot more than either Mass Effect or Dragon Age ever had in any case. And that's because the Voice Actor was able to squeeze all his voiced lines in like a 30 minute session at maximum. Modern Bioware characters have hours of voiced dialogue each. It behooves them then to make companions that the majority of their player base won't instantly try to ditch. Since most people actually play good guys, well....

The end result is self-evident: Zevran and Morrigan are your "darkest" companions to date in DA. A charming assassin, and a vile harpy  caustic "social Darwinist".

Yeah I know.

I just thought I'd throw it out there. No harm in asking as the saying goes. Worse that'll happen is I won't get the LI.

And hell even if I don't get a darker LI I at least can not get another woobie or KISA. Small victories.

Or, they could make the dark LI the pansexual one, thus satisfying the LGBT representation and not restricting access to the character at the same time

So you're basically looking for the Dragon Age version of Harley Quinn? I can get behind that, puddin'.

XD This. I keep looking at the gay KISA thread and I'm like...Yes, yes, let's trade! No more KISA for me!

Not every LI has been a knight in shining armor, no. But a disproportionate amount of the romances for straight females especially have been the knight in shining armor type. Or characters who have had a dead wife/lover/girlfriend. Or a combination.

And as to who have been this type? Anomen in BG2, Kaidan as you said, Carth from KOTOR, Alistair, Sebastian from DA2 (even though he was a rogue, I'd still place him in here because he was literally a prince in shining white armor),arguably now Cullen.

I say mix it up and give us some variety. A darker love interest would be greatly appreciated.

Five, with a possible sixth. That's far fewer love options than there are available.

I didn't really think of Alistair as a knight in shining armour. He was a rather ungallant, ineffectual and immature virgin you laughed at as often as you laughed with and pitied. The only thing he really shares with a knight in shining armour was that he was nice.

Heh Sky was a rogue but he too was tormented by dead wife syndrome. Thankfully he's one of the few LIs the PC can actually manage to have a darker romance with. (Like I said JE will always have my favorite romances because of this).

And then when you want to add woobies to this you get Zevran, Fenris, and Anders.

So the LIs we have that don't have dead wife syndrome, woobieness or KISA are...um...who's left? Oh yeah. Jacob. Jacob. The one LI who doesn't want to rage about his past to the PC and drag a whole bunch of drama on her...and they have him cheat on Shep. Because ra forbid that work out. And Garrus. <3

Edit: On that note I realize why I like so many of SWTOR's Sith romances. There was a lack of the above. Quinn? Not a woobie at all. He's not evil but he's not a KISA either, and no dead wife and kid crapola. Revel's pretty quick to go along with the Inquisitor shocking the crap out of people too and most of his reactions to you pitying him is to get annoyed. His desire for revenge is solved fairly quickly and doesn't boggle the romance down.

Unfortunate Implications.  Bi-Pan sexuals are all evil. Bi and Pansexuals are already sick of seeing the bi characters all being promiscuous Rogues with traumatic pasts. Now they're universally the evil LI too?  No Bueno.

But people do it, it's probably the first thing I'd imagine if you told me someone has a dark secret. That or a rape dungeon

Why would rape dungeon be a thing that comes to mind? Did I just miss a lot of subtext in this thread?

Some people have trouble white-washing evil. Probably because they don't find "evil" to be sexy.

Nope I think it's a product of the often lazy way people introduce an antagonist by having him/her be a rapist. Thus when someone hears evil that's the first thing their mind jumps to.

Thus low morality guy = rapist because for some reason anything else is whitewashing or not being as gritty. Because we all know you can't have that without being a rapist!

Yeah there's not even a great amount of KISA s/s LIs to even begin with. The one who comes closest is Kaidan.

I wouldn't mind a Bishop-type LI for more evil PC (or for good PC with the thing for bad boys/girls).

I tried to do a really self-centered, egotistic and manipulative PC in DA 2 once... found out I can't have an equal-minded mate.) Closest I could get was Isabela and she is not exactly "dark".

I think it's more that people are pointing out that evil is actually not a sexy in reality as it is in people's fan-fiction. You want a charming sociopath. We (meaning people who don't find evil characters attractive) see that as no better someone who does repulsive things like kidnap and rape.

Evil is evil.

I'm well aware this isn't reality though why tell me something I know? Our PCs can already be horrible people so what exactly kind of revelation do you think you're telling me? This is bad in real life? No freaking duh. Even the LIs we already have would be bad for most people in real life. We have assassins, liars, slavers and more already among our LIs. None of that is very attractive in real life either.

And evil is evil maybe the case but trying to say "all evil characters rape!" is absurd.

I just...believe me I'm well ware of the differences in between reality and fiction. I don't need you trying to school me.
