I don't know why some people are quick to say this wouldn't work. The LI can start off traveling with you, voice their opinion, you can agree or disagree, et al just like any other LI companion. Then somewhere mid story they either reveal their true intention and leave or leave mysteriously, the PC doesn't know why, blah blah. You can come across them from time to time during the story to have your moments (arguing, fighting, kissing, et al) and at the end if you can kill them then do it or let them go...or perhaps they outwit you and escape themselves.
Something along the lines of a Leon Kennedy x Ada Wong dynamic can work too.
Now I'm thinking about Albert Wesker. ![]()
TOR made it possible to romance the main villain in one of the class stories
Which one was that?
I also enjoyed Silk Fox in Jade Empire on the Closed Fist path (minus the lame brainwashing).
You didn't have to brainwash her if she followed closed fist.. ?

This is something I'd like to see as well. TOR made it possible to romance the main villain in one of the class stories and it was by far my favorite romance in the game, even if it was an extremely messed up relationship. I also enjoyed Silk Fox in Jade Empire on the Closed Fist path (minus the lame brainwashing).
I adore CF Sky. Easily one of my favorite BW romances. Also you don't have to persuade him since he just follows the PCs alignment. It still makes me squee ![]()
I just wish the female version didn't have that weird implication that he regrets being dark and you bang it out of him once in a while. ![]()
Thus I just stick to romancing him with a dude since you don't get that. ![]()
YES. I WANT AN EVIL LOVER.
This got me XD

Sith Warrior I'd imagine? One of the LIs were working with the big bad all along.
Unless it's trooper...I know it's not Inquisitor/Smuggler/Agent (though predictable betrayal was predictable it had nothing to do with the class story)/Bounty Hunter/Knight/Consular
You have to persuade her with several options. (Her and Dawnstar too and Dawnstar CF behavior is so terrible I have to laugh)
That said she seems like she fell mostly on her own anyway. Dawnstar is the one who really needs the shove.

Oooh, that. I thought it was actually some antagonist, a non-party member.
You can be the bolded without being a sociopath.
I know, I'm all those things and I'm pretty sure I'm not a sociopath, but I also don't think I'm evil.

You have to persuade for the opposite path no? I mean if you have Silk fox as open palm then you have to brainwash her if you are closed fist, if she is closed fist as well, you don't have to persuade or brainwash her.
Well if DA4 is set in Tevinter we might have our dark LI.
Well if DA4 is set in Tevinter we might have our dark LI.
Hopefully we can also finally be ''dark'' ourselves.

Yeah because otherwise I can't see who it could possibly be.
I know, I'm all those things and I'm pretty sure I'm not a sociopath, but I also don't think I'm evil.
Well most people I'd imagine don't feel themselves to be evil. I wouldn't consider myself such. I wouldn't consider myself good either though to be frank. *shrug*

Nope. Silk Fox defaults to OP as does Dawn Star. Sky follows the players alignment (if you're CF so is he and if you're OP so is he.) To get Silk Fox and Dawn Star to go CF you must be CF and persuade her. (and even then if you pick the threesome ending Dawn Star decides to revert to Open Palm at the last minute for some baffling reason).
Well if DA4 is set in Tevinter we might have our dark LI.
oooh yes that could work well. A magister companion.
Spoiler
Some of the alignment conversations in JE and ME1 seem like brainwashing to me. I guess I'm probably alone in thinking that.
The only one I really felt hit the brainwashing bit was Dawn Star. Just watching her go to close fist was so hamfisted and uncomfortable. The others I bought as persuasion. Dawn Star just...wut. It works better if you have her discover her past and confront Li but still =/
*snip*
Oh nice one! Interesting.
Also I dunno, just sharing your thoughts with someone and having them agree is not really brainwashing, I think.

Oh you mean that, yeah that's correct.
I guess threesomes.. bring out the best in people.
We need more villains as love interests with assorted plot.

Lots and lots of plot.
Is anyone tried of the hyper-intelligent, manipulative Hollywood sociopath that for someone reason is treated like a sex god? I mean, sure, a lot of high profile serial killers were indeed highly manipulative and smart enough to hide their crimes quite well. But most of them also had sex with corpses, raped adolescent girls and substituted sex for grotesque moments of violence. Not really prime romance material right there.
I don't want anyone to feel bad for liking shows like Dexter or Hannibal, but don't mistake that for what a sociopath or serial murder really is in the real world. Their monsters whose mental deficiency, poor control of their own sexual urges and need for dominance (usually sexual dominance) leads to them commit such horrific acts. I know this probably sounds really overbearing and dismissive to other forum-goers desire for a 'Darker LI' but the constant misuse of this archetype has just really started to bother me in recent years.
Rant over.
To the question of whether or should DA have a much darker LI in future games I'm going to have to say probably not. Creating a character that is without a doubt a sociopath and not just morally grey or dark, like Morrigan or Zervan, is going to be a real challenge for DA's writers that I really think they won't be able to execute well. Their either going to reveal that secretly the LI has a much more gentler side or has some dark mysterious past that will explain their vile acts, or their going to go full on unrepentant sadistic evil bastard, which won't be a true romance by any real definition. That last example will just be another Morinth situation but without the death by sex part probably. You'd be romancing someone who can't real ever truly care about your PC and would kill you at any opportunity if doing so would be advantageous to them.
To put in practical terms, there's dating Catwoman and then there's dating the Joker. One of these situations is just going to end badly by nature.
Oh, also, Bioware would have to go through some serious story hoops to explain why other Companions would tolerate the presence of such an evil jerk.

A. He's useful
and B. He's smart enough not to **** where he eats as the saying goes. (or at the very least get caught doing it)
That really doesn't require serious hoops. It only does if they make him mustache twirling stupid evil. Which I already said I do not want.

Not to mention the majority of sociopaths do not do those things. High profile serial killers are hardly the majority of sociopaths. Plenty of them are married have kids and families and manage not to eat people.
Though ending badly you're right. It'd be interesting if nothing else though. Not to mention...we can play a sociopath often times. I'm not sure why romancing one is suddenly a bridge too far. Especially not when most of the LIs will romance a PC...that's rather bloodthirsty, merciless and vicious.
But honestly we're playing a game where the characters make kill counts and solve a lot of their issues by shoving a sword through someone's stomach. So yeah I'm not gonna feel bad for asking for a darker LI when the PCs already surrounded by murderers, assassins, spies and slavers.

Sociopaths are all different like all other people, very, very different.

And why can't the sociopath LI have a gentler side? Morinth had a gentle side, I would romance someone like Morinth in a heartbeat, if it wasn't for that sex part.
Here's an interesting thing, Chaotic Evil characters are capable of loving very deeply:
''A Chaotic Evil trusts no one, is moderately to extremely paranoid, and loves himself above all others. It's not impossible for a Chaotic Evil to love someone else, it's just very unusual. Still, sometimes it does happen. The two lovers in Natural Born Killers, the homicidal hillbillies of The Devil's Rejects, and the Tutman brothers from Blood Diner were all Chaotic Evil, yet they were fiercely loyal to their loved ones. If a Chaotic Evil loves you, REALLY loves you, they will defend you with a fury that even the bravest "hero" could never match ... if you are in their heart, then you're a part of their inner world, and their inner world is everything to them. ''
You don't have to have morals to care for someone, you don't have to be a nice person to make friends. You just have to find people that share your interests and you have to be nice to them in particular.
I just want more variety of LIs for straight male. All our love interests have just been humans with the exception of a single female elf, Merrill, up to this point. Its dull and boring. Give us lady elves, lady dwarves and lady qunaris to romance.

Ugh my internet is all freaking screwy. My bad for splitting up this reply and constantly editing my post.
Anyway I do agree with the bolded. But I'm just so tired of the italicized I'll take a bad implementation over yet another KISA or woobie.

Yeah a lot of the PC can have pretty "wow" moments and still get romanced. Warden could sacrifice innocents for power, Hawke could enslave Orana (granted what awaited her was worse but still...), Shepard goes around shooting people and punching them in the face willy nilly, pretty sure #Assquisitor will have moments too.
A Morrigan or Bishop without the "kick the dog" moments would be a nice change. Always makes me laugh when a character boasts about how pragmatic they are but go out of their way to show everyone how evil they are.
Spoiler

Yeah tired of that too. Stupid evil just makes me smh. I'd rather it stay gone...well unless I get a facepalm interrupt. I wouldn't mind if I got a facepalm interrupt
I'd used that so many times in origins.
