I did a tally the other night when I was looking through the romance options, and realized that there are probably 2 or 3 more options available to the female inquisitors vs. the male inquisitors. I pondered about even bringing this to attention because of Bioware's positive attitude towards making the first ever solely homosexual companions in the Dragon Age series which needed to be applauded on a side note. I'm just being that guy knowing the male inquisitor is not going to be as fun when i'm trying at every turn not to turn Iron Bull onto me (that's just scary for an Elf). How do you guys and gals feel about it?
Lack of Male Romancable Options?

Straight males have the same amount of options as gay men and women. 2.
Straight females only have 4 if they play elves. If human it's 3 if dwarf or qunari it's the same 2 everyone else gets.
Also I highly doubt Iron Bull is going to try to force himself on you. He'll at most hit on you, you'll decline and the game will move on.

But really. You're not alone, OP. And it's not just straight men who have less options, its lesbians and gay men too. But I don't think this thread will have very patient responses, we've done this song and dance too many times. You have the same number of options as you've always had.

The question is to say how we feel about it.
I feel that I couldn't possibly care less how many of what or whom can be romanced by what (or... whom.)
I don't even consider it relevant.
I don't even understand why someone would say something like, "Why do females (or whatever) have more than me?" They're video game characters. They don't belong to anyone. Or, perhaps, they belong to all of us. Either way, there's nothing unfair about it.
Unfair is expecting people to make a video game the customizes itself to every imaginable detail that every player could want. Come a point, maybe just try the game and see if you enjoy it, since it's going to be the same game for everyone. Women weren't given anything in DA:I that men haven't been given - they're going to get exactly the same version of the game in exactly the same package for exactly the same price.

Don't worry, the next game will either have you or straight females have the most often again, so there's a 50/50 chance that the odds will be in your favor as Bioware had confirmed that they will never give gays more often than straight so don't freak out just yet. Your time will come again. ![]()

How I feel about that? Well as straight female player having 4 options; Cullen, Iron Bull, Cassandra and Dorian, I'm pretty happy with what I got. I'd take non-gated Solas for my female qunari though.

Two options are enough, in my opinion. More are great of course, but not expected. DA:I is actually giving the same amount of options for straight male characters as there were in the previous two games. In DA:O it was a choice between Morrigan and Leliana and in DA2 it was Isabela and Merrill.

I do think 2/4/2 would have been better since then everyone would have an equal 3.

A post tilte that lets me do this! Yes.
Okay, so strictly speaking men have four romance options: Josie, Cass, the IB and Dorian.
Only fair if they say that "women" have more options.

Yep, everyone has 8 options
It's their playstyles that limit them
In a nutshell, my friend.

OP is right... I counted too.
Male Inquisitors only have 3 options (Cassandra, Josephine, and Dorian).
Female Inquisitors have 5 options (Cullen, Iron Bull, Blackwall, Sera, and Solas)
Not entirely fair... but not a big deal to me. I like both Cassandra and Josephine.

Yeah, that's a pretty big oversight too. We're getting our first Qunari LI before a dwarf. Pretty strange seeing as all 3 of the Dwarf companions have been fan favorites.

If people want to talk about fairness then just look at the ME series. It's not an eye for an eye, but I'm telling people think about how others feel when it happens to them. I would have preferred for a more even distribution, but this is the decision they go with, and we just have to accept that. Gay audience will always have less often and it's understandable from marketing perspective, as for straight males, they will always have the most or second most options. If you don't like your options in this game then there would still be ME4 or some next games to look forward to. I can guarantee that you will likely have the most, second most, or equal number as everyone. At least, that's a plus. This is the first time that straight males have less options, but other groups have experienced that like forever, try understand how others may feel. That's all I'm saying. ![]()
