1) You don't have to support everything they believe in.  You just have to do and say things that they approve of.  For example: you could not like Cassandra's past as a Seeker, but you could make choices that she approves of to make up the difference.

 

Something interesting to note, is that in the most recent trailer Cassandra seems to be threatening a Chantry official, so her link to the Chantry may not be as strong as it once was.

It made sense with Merrill.  I agree that it was pretty stupid, but it felt like Merrill's Rivalmance was pretty well-done.  I've Rivaled Fenris and I really don't think a Rivalmance would work with him.  idk about Anders or Isabela, but Rivalmancing Seb seems better than Friendmancing him, from what I've heard.

Men can totally do the same, but many people who are on the forum have grown weary of these threads for a couple of reasons.

 

• Normally they are about some complaining how unattractive the straight male options are
• When women and the LGBT  community complained about the lack of LIs for them in previous games, they were told to shut up, stop whining, stop trying to push our social justice agenda etc. 

After a couple of games of hearing this, it becomes grating to hear it (over & over again, without a hint of irony) from straight men

 

There is also never an acknowledgement that straight men have the same number of LIs as gay men & women in DA:I, some people who post on these threads act like straight men are being singled out for discrimination, rather than just not having any extra LIs this time.

 

By all means, complain away, get your point across, but it would be more effective if the point wasn't almost always tied up with critiquing how a LI looks, or mild to extreme homophobia. 

 

Because nobody's ever been shallow about appearances before. Let's dig up some of the stuff about DA2 Alistair and Zevran, shall we?

Of course people have been shallow about peoples looks before, but there have been far more threads created about how Cassandra looks than any other LI in previous Dragon Age games.

 

At some point it felt like there was a new 'why are the LIs for straight males so ugly?' thread almost every other day. In Feedback & Suggestions alone, you only have to go back one page to find another thread about it.

no hawke does not respect and support merril at all, he was not her friend when he was a rival and romance with such relationship is a masohism as with fenris and as anders is you support templars

i am not a templar and andrastian anymore so do not say and judge me about what i do with mages and heretics in past because i am not a templar and andrastian anymore

 

when nazi or terrorists or murders do sh*t they answered for that or hide and die

I can see both sides to some extent here. Some people are offended because she's not attractive to them like she might have been in DA2. She looks nothing like she did in DA2, and she's the only party member romance for a straight male. The other is an NPC, and from ME they're historically lacking in content. Josephine isn't "traditionally" attractive, either.

 

People get twitchy whenever appearances are messed with. The elves of DA2 were so vehemently hated that Bioware immediately went back to the older style for DAI. The Darkspawn weren't well received, either. I'm not sure anyone liked Alistair or Zevran in DA2, and some people didn't like the change for Isabela, and they made her more attractive.

Hawke is trying to do what Marethari was trying to do: help Merrill by trying to convince her to stop trying to fix the Eluvian.  Blood magic makes mages more susceptible to possession and according to Marethari, Merrill completing the Eluvian would've resulted in her being possessed or killed by the demon that she had asked to help her.  Hawke trying to stop Merrill from rebuilding the Eluvian was to help her, not hurt her.

 

Of course, on a pure Rival path (no romance) Hawke's reasoning behind disagreeing with Merrill could be very different.

First thing...I doubt that Iron Bull will rape you in here!

I think he will be more like Zevran case...he will take interest in you but if you tell you are not interested he will simply move on and not look,talk and want you in 'pervy way' anymore.

Second thing...I'm fine with options as it it,there was supposedly Vivienne was to be for both from what I recall seeing in wiki...but suddenly they took her out as romance option   not sure why.Mabye it was wrong information so wiki changed it...or mabye BW planned to make her LI but took out option for some reason...not sure.

Third...if you dislike romance options given to you then don't do any romance...simple  no one is forcing you.Besides as BobZilla84 said:

You can't change your past, that's true, but you can change your beliefs and how you want to represent yourself as a person.  Not all at once, mind you, but it's still possible.

I..really? That thing basically ate two people (depending on the route) and corrupted a whole swath of the forest. Keeper Marethari is well within her rights to go "This thing is bad news, please stop trying to bring the evil hellmouth back".

Marethari had the clan leave Ferelden during a Blight.  They were going to be pushed out by the humans from the nearby village regardless of what she decided, and with the darkspawn horde in southern Ferelden, she viewed leaving the country as the best thing to do to keep the clan safe.

 

Merrill herself said that she would've used lyrium if she had enough of it, but she didn't, so she went with blood magic as her only option to cleanse the shards of the Eluvian.  Marethari didn't force Merrill to not trust anyone (have no idea where you came up with that).  Also, Marethari imprisoned the demon inside of herself so that it wouldn't possess Merrill.  Merrill was fully willing to accept whatever consequences of her actions she had as long as no one got hurt because of them.  If Marethari hadn't stepped in, she probably would've ended up finishing the Eluvian and been either possessed or killed by the demon.  She even asked Hawke to come with her to where the demon was originally imprisoned in case it managed to possess her.

 

You don't have to disagree with every single thing Merrill says/does in order to Rival her.  All you have to do is refuse to give her the Arulin'Holm in Act II and it'll automatically take your Friendship progress and flip it over to Rivalry.  If you're already Rivaling her, it gives a large amount of Rivalry points (20-25, iirc).  In her Rivalmance, she says this to Hawke, "Don't try to save me..."  I think that should help prove my point.

most of them(especially enginers, many of them was one of those who was usually putted in camps and be killed) was forced, some of them does not and was a monsters...all what was founded was judged, executed or put in jail....in ussr all of those monster scientists was captured, forced to work(because noone side want to be nuked) and most of them  after their job was done was executed or usually put in jail forever

 

they especially Cullen, Lelianna, Cole, Cassandra, Iron Bull(who was deal with those who does not support qun) cannot...they deserve to die in perspective of mages, non-humans, non-andrastians

 

loghain, meredith, arishok and zevran have some of my respect that they does recognize what they do and they understand and does not try to hide what they do and ready to die-fight for that....in canon i always execute loghain, arishok and zevran for what they done as with leliana and others who was a real criminal

 

i cannot care for that they belief that they do "good" and think that they "serve to good"

1) IB was raised in the Qun and knew nothing else until he 'snapped'.  It's even been confirmed that when you recruit him he's upfront about his connection to the Ben-Hassrath.  Can he regret what he's done?  Yes.  Can he try to atone?  Absolutely.  The same goes with everyone else.

 

2) Every companion in DA has a troubled past.  Hell, so does every squaddie in ME.  Many of them want to regret what they did and/or want to atone for it.  Sten is a perfect example of this.

 

3) Zevran was raised as an assassin and knew nothing else but that life.  That was beyond his control and he actually wanted to die because of what happened to Rinna.  Why?  Because he regretted it.  You're assuming that people can't regret what they've done and try to atone for it, which is far from the truth.

 

4) Ethics, and by extension laws, are entirely subjective.  What's legal in one country might be illegal in another.  Belief is also subjective.  Slavery is legal in Tevinter, yet it's outlawed in everyone White Chantry nation.  The Qunari employ the use of Qamek while the various human nations view the Rite of Tranquility as being more acceptable.  There's no true black and white, only shades of grey and people's opinions.

........... I've Rivaled Merrill twice.  Once was a Rivalmance, and the other time was because I was doing a pro-Templar playthrough.  Rivaling her in my pro-Templar playthrough felt closer to what you're describing.  Rivalmancing her didn't feel anything close to that.
