It really depends on how I decide to treat my first playthrough.

 

If I decide to roleplay a bit, I'll probably end up going human mage, as I've already come up with a fairly flexible personality that should allow me some leeway in decisions while still being in character. (Specifically, was more of a follower, but then suddenly thrust into leadership position and can't really hand off responsibility due to being able to close the fade rifts, can reasonably develop anywhere from self-sacrificing martyr to paranoid and power-hungry depending upon how the story goes).

 

Alternatively, if I decide to do a "natural" playthrough and choose whatever appeals to me personally, will probably be going with a Qunari, as their background seems the least limiting, both in that I know very little about the Tal-Vashoth (or is it really just Vashoth, since you were born without ever being inducted into the Qun?) and the backstory doesn't seem to have any implicit prejiduces like elf and dwarf have.

I choose a human character to start with for almost every game that has an option for other races. With how fantastic the characters look in DAI I'll probably play another race as my second, third and fourth playthroughs. I love having the option for variety even if I don't end up going for something different to start with, feels like there's less restrictions for creativity.

A burly, bearded Dwarf. There's a recent gameplay video out that's reassured me they'll look great. And dwarves really are unfairly overlooked (not literally). So I'll be showing them some love.

Human, most likely. First run is always a version of myself and believe it or not, I am human.

Same here, Human male Warrior. 

 

Next will most likely be a Dwarf Rogue or Qunari Mage. 

 

I hate Elves in most fantasy settings. DA's are a little better as they are the nomads/poor of the poor instead of the masters of the world (at least in their own minds) in most settings.

Dwarves are my favorite race so I'll start with a Dwarven rogue.  I'll switch to an elf for my second playthrough.

Forgot to clarify mine a bit:

 

First, definitely:  male qunari two-handed warrior

 

Second, definitely:  male dwarf dual wield rogue

 

From that point on, I'm determined to do a female dwarf at some point as well as a qunari mage.  We'll see where I go from there.

Dwarf. It was the only reason I tried out DAO in the first place. DA2 was fine - not great, not bad. Was going to wait on reviews for DA3 until they announced dwarves were playable again. YES!

I almost always play a male human warrior first in RPGs. It's tradition for my first playthrough of a TES game to be a greatsword slinging, heavy armored Nord. In DAO I started off with a sword 'n board Human Noble, and used the same sword and shield setup for Hawke in DA2.

I've always branched out in subsequent playthroughs, trying the various classes, races and the opposite gender, but for Inquisition I really am tempted to break the mold and play a female Qunari warrior first.

Do not believe this person's falsity. I play a human in real life it's really not that fabulous. We're either OP, UP or just greedy.

As for my choice of race...

All will come to understand the Qun. Unfortunately the character is actually a Vashoth, not a Qunari. Sad face. But I'll take what I can get.

Totally dig this post.  Sense of humor, and a gentle poke.  I will play a human as I did in DAO, but really enjoy reading about how others approach the game.  The different races and worldviews are what make the DA series my favorite.games.

Female Dalish elven mage! She will be wise and caring, while my dalish rouge will be super snarky and romance Sera. What can I say I like elves.

Human Mage, both so I have a "control group" for how much the other races get discriminated against in Thedas in my subsequent playthroughs, and so I have a vested RP interest in the Mage-Templar conflict that my other three characters (Dalish Rogue, Dwarf Warrior, Qunari TBD) will lack.

Human male rogue first, then qunari male mage second. Those are set in stone. After that, I'm not positive. I know the third will definitely be a female warrior, but I'm still undecided about whether she should be an elf or a dwarf. That character will be followed by a female rogue of the other race.

 

Then I think I'll probably be Dragon Age'd out for a while.
