Im still hopeful that once Shep is done and has completed the suicide mission, some of the post game stuff will be reconnecting some more with former LI from ME1. Still, if you think about it, I imagine some Sheps wouldnt want to put loved ones in harm's way if its not needed. Although I would still love to take them on the Normandy at some point and show all the upgrades! Look! We have showers now!

Since everyone is abit gloomy, a clip from an old favorite show of mine:

That's really stupid from a story perspective. Why would Shepard have reservations about having their old flame go on this mission with them when they have proven they're capability in the first game? They'd be just as lethal as anyone you could recruit in this game.

Trust me, they did a good job at tying Ash/Kaidan/Liara's hands. They will not be going on the suicide mission.

And you know what? I think that's a great idea. My main fem!Shep will have already made up her mind about not wanting them to come along. Hell, if I knew I was probably gonna die on some crazy battle against some enemy no one had ever fought before, there'd be no way in hell I would be taking my girlfriend along.

Saying, "Hey, I'm taking you along and you're probably gonna die, but since I"m the commander, I bet I'll have more a chance at living" to your significant other doesn't exactly inspire feelings of romance...

Your "girlfriend" is one of the better warriors in the galaxy, or at least have proven themselves very capable. The galaxy is at stake and the suicide mission is a integral one, romantic links shouldn't get in the way of that.

This makes me wonder if you've ever been in love in real life. The reason why there's no fraternization in the military is because it's kind of hard to focus on the mission at hand when you're constantly worried about the safety of your lover if s/he is in your squad. Imagine that pressure in combat. If you're not paying attention to what's in front of your face because you're worried that your lovie is gonna get pwn'd by a collector, the chances of YOU making it out alive falls dramatically.

Bottom line, romatic links DO get in the way. That's the nature of the emotion.

So, is there no acknowledgement that you even HAD a romance in ME1? Other than with Liara?

Also, for the same reasons that Tali and Garrus had no problem rejoining Shepard (and Shepard had no problem bringing these good friends along), I would think that it would make sense to want your loved one by your side during the most crucial mission yet.  Even if you'd want to protect them, wouldn't they want to be with you, if they were written well?  If you had told me two years ago that Ash or Liara would prefer to be sidelined to be "protected" rather than go to battle with Shepard, I would have laughed.  The cameos are just really, really disappointing.

Well at least I might understand Liara's situation better once all the comics come out. Good thing I have a Shep for every LI though. Along with a bachlorette.

It's aknowledged. Somewhat. You get one or two lines that indicates the characters had been in a relationship.

Agreed. The way the writers force a specific dialogue on you during the Ash/Kaiden encounter was particularly infuriating to me.

Were?  So they don't even say I still love you or whatever?  Then how the hell does Bioware call ME2 cheating?

I believe Casey termed the romance for ME1 LIs in ME2 as the "strained" or "troubled" second act.

That translates into them not featuring very much as a result other than a "things arent what they were" cameo.

That could easily just lead to a "I love you again" cameo in ME3, rather than a squadmate role and a full romance again.

Oh how I want want to avoid an other sidelining! It's understandable that Ash/Kai Laira would be doing other things ofr ME2, largely because of Shepard's absence, but now I am worried about ME3, Also, worry for the ME2 li's that some of My newer Shepard's (WHO DID NOT romance anyone previously( will get sidelined romances again. They should fight together!

How hard would it have been for Bioware to have given you a kiss and a "I don't like what you're doing, but I'll be here when you get back" cameo? That would have been FINE. But no, they had to give a "I hate your face and am mad at you for joining Cerberus and thus do not care about you ANYMORE" cameo. A cameo was FINE, but so little acknowledgement? They can't even consider the dang people in ME2 cheating, and that's probably true, most people are going to cheat because they're so peeved that their love interest acted like such a jerk, why not cheat? It's clear they aren't interested anymore.

ME3 is in 2 years and it won't make up for this complete failure on Bioware's part, I had reasonable low expectations. A cameo was okay but at least an affectionate cameo, an "I miss you" cameo, something other than a "be a complete jack*** cameo". I expect ME3 will be a cameo too, probably a nice one, but still. I just don't understand why they had to be such idiots about the ME1 romances, despite that people didn't find them that interesting, some people did and to just cast them aside as if you never had a romance is ridiculous. They couldn't please everyone with a cameo, but they could have done more than what they did, what they did was just pathetic. I know they aren't technically liars, but I'm still pissed.

We'll we have to, erm, wait and see how exactly they do it, it might not be so bad once we get the full story, I'm just putting my wish-list out there for ME3 early: Kaidan, Liara and Thane for ME3 squadmates :P

They say "I loved you, and losing you tore me apart"

Later, they contact Shep via text to let you know that maybe they might like to see him/her again after things settle down.

People did find the ME1 LIs interesting in the beginning. Just like with the ME2 Lis right now.

Give it some time, and there will be no end of people waiting to criticise the new LIs.

Well probably just see the same with ME3, only with people pissed about the ME2 characters getting the same treatment this time around.

I second that, maybe we can get enough people like with the Tali thing, or I could bomb the entire facility.  I'm kidding... seriously, no one report me for terrorism.

But they do suck right now, despite how awesome their games are... <_<

Shepard's Reply:  No you may not, you jack***.  <_<

Spoilers...

So Liara gets a kiss and humans get a text?  Fabulous.
