Seeing some thread here about picking pockets, and also on the toolset section about attacking neutral I remembered that I had trouble with this.

All I wanted to do, was to have some NPCs around the world with inventory goodies. As secrets let's say. When I tried to pick pocket some, I couldn't.

So here are the questions.

Does the NPC need to be a neutral faction for this to work?

And the item just flagged as pickpocketable, both on its properties and on the inventory of the creature?

I don't remember the tests I was making. This was a year or so ago. So any info on how picking pockets actually works would be good. Thanks :).

In order to pick pockets, the target can't be a 'Defender' or a 'Hostile' (so any neutral faction should work). Or at least not in standard difficulty. I don't know if you can pick pockets of Defenders in harder difficulty modes (you can certainly launch attacks against them).

Hm, I don't know about standard difficulty, but at the highest difficulty I know it's possible to pickpocket a hostile creature, though it's possible it has something to do with my campaign settings.  I specifically tested it on a hostile character in my campaign.

I was just watching the man in green from the tutorial of the OC, and he has a custom neutral faction to the PC. I guess it's all that's needed to be covered in all difficulties...

I also just noticed that I posted this on the scripting forums :D.

afaik the skill will only be usable on faction members with a standing of neutral or lower to the player.
