Apparantly, DA2 is a fairly decent game that got a lot of hate because of.. reasons. I wouldn't know though, haven't played it. Was thinking of buying it to fill up the last few days before DA:I, but instead I decided to do another run of DA:O (FINALLY got into the game lol, took me long enough) as a City Elf dual wielding warrior.

Mechanically it is a pretty incompetent. I don't think most of the complaints are about the actual story. There's a lot of reused environments that would make ME and DA:O blush and linear level design that would fit into FFXIII. The combat mechanics is a great source of consternation as well. RPG mechanics are also severely gutted and, unlike ME to ME2, they weren't the bad ones. The character animations are also extremely uncanny.

There are some big problems with the actual story, like the end, but as far as actual game design goes DA:O DA:II leaves much to be desired.

Edit: Woops, meant DA:II there at the end. I think I was thinking about the Deep Roads when I was writing that sentence; that long, long, endless sequence. I'll be glad if DA:I doesn't have any of that place in the game.

Just finished the Dragon Age II demo on Xbox.

I really liked the different personaity for the dialogue wheel, where my Female-Rogue really wanted to be a dragon.

Some of the characters in the game are similiar to Mass Effect. Carver was like Jenkins, Isabella was like Tali and the other 2 would've been Kaiden and Ashley. Oh, and my mum is Dr Chakwas, *shot*.

Also, I can be lesbian with Isabella! O.o

Sarcastic femhawke makes it worth playing the game all by herself. And that voice

And the relationships with the characters -- not just party members but everyone-- are the other big selling points for me. They make the game as far as I'm concerned.

I've played Origins but everything I've heard has put me off II. Any idea if that'll matter in the slightest for Inquisition? (drifting waaaay off-topic here!)

I've stayed away -- as much as I can -- from info about Inquisition. I did go through the DA Keep beta just recently to check it out, and there are a lot of choices you get to make regarding things that happen in DA2, but I really dunno how much of an impact those choices will have. Some of them I've forgotten about since I last played DA2, and others seem insignificant -- like, why is that even a thing in Inquisition? heh.

Good I skipped out on it then ;)

I'll probably end up buying it anyway though, because I was messing about in the Keep today and every decision in DA2 is absolutely meaningless to me. I want them to have meaning :(

So... if you're not gonna play DA2, go totally chaotic neutral have fun with the Keep. Make every choice randomly and see how the game turns out. That's what I'd do. But I might try and get into another game of DA2 before Inquisition. I'll have a little more time since I have to wait for the game to come in the mail anyway.

Lol chaotic neutral :P

How would you classify this Warden?

(in chronological order btw :P)

Elf Mage

Sided with Templars

Sided with the Werewolves

Defeated Branka, Bhelen king

Saved Redcliffe, saved Conor (intimated Desire Demon all the way)

Got the Ashes

Won the Landsmeet by a landslide, Alistair and Anora rule together

Took the ritual, killed Archdemon himself

Found Morrigan, went through the Eluvian with her

Hmm... swap mage for rogue, templars for mages, and werewolves for elves, and that's my warden too. Oh wait, saved Connor at Redcliffe but had Wynne kill the demon in the Fade, since a rogue can't do it.

 I've never seen that, but then I've never really solo-ed through the city. I loved the party banter too much.

It happens after the Viscount's son is killed and Hawke has to be alone. So before going to the chantry, drop off your companions to see Saemus dead and fight either the Qunari or the fanatics

Good lord... I mean, uh, by the maker... I really need to play this game again before Inquisition.

I have to admit, I really liked DA2. The only thing about it was the repetitive environments, but then ME1 had those as well.

I feel the same about DA2, and even the repetitive environments didn't bother me that much, just because of ME1.

So, DAO or DA2 first?

DA2 is a great place to start.

Reason. if you play Awakenings, you'll get to know a different Anders than is in DA2. Leiliana is different in DA2 than in DAO.

But seriously play DAO. It's a great game. The graphics are very dated, though. You'll find out how to write an ending. And I thought the DLC was excellent.

Makes note to do a play of DA2.

Same. Gonna try and wrap up my current ME3 game tonight -- Cronos Station is my next destination -- and pick up my DA2 game. I'm early in it yet, think i just spent my first year in Kirkwall.

Prove that I don't. You're the one assuming I don't like it.

Well the ending's combat leading up to the final boss was a tad a little way too long. But, ya, other wise very satisfying ending no matter how it plays out.
