This game is making me really concerned after watching video impressions...

But, I dont think the complaining was universal at all. My issues with DA2 were not the combat, but how rushed the entire game felt. I'd say trying to quantify "people" complaining about a feature is fruitless, since opinions are wildly varied.  I dont see the point of trying to infer a "group: complaining vs just speaking for ones self, unless the goal is to give a sense of authority on what was the problem with DA2.

Remebmer the awesome button? That one is still there.

True. But Dragon age Origins was pretty close in that regard. This isn't the case in this game at all.

Pen and Paper have never translated well to games. Despite my love for BG, D&D mechanics did not translate well to games at all. Even NWN1 and 2 struggled heavily with a ruleset that favored video games more then most. Then again, I felt no real similarities existed mechanics wise with DAO and BG/P&P

Side note: Ever notice that Darktown, in DA2, is the only place in the game where the Day\Night cycle doesn't work? If you go there at night it is still daylight outside. Rather ironic. Darktown - the only place in the game where it is never dark.

Yeah I had noticed that. At one point trying to explain it I got myself mixed up about what I was actually arguing lol.

@Rawgrim:  Dragon Age: Origins was nowhere near PnP.

Neverwinter Nights Toolset, DM CLient, PLayer Client has been the only CRPG like pnp.

Talking about the character creation aspect. Not for making quests etc.

NWN is the closest thing if you want a d&d session on the computer, yes. Great fun with an actual DM. But the character creation in the game wasn't that great.

The lack of auto attack for the basic attacks, if true, will be annoying(unless they dont do it for mouse and KB, then I wont care). On that I agree.

The inhabitants decided to get clever and name it something to drive people off. Kind of like how "Iceland" wound up as named..

Translating pen and paper d&d to a computer game is impossible. too many variables, and pen and paper has an almost unlimted amount of rp options.

one thing that looks kinda odd is the animations, leaving that ridiculous segment of leliana killing people with the thin part of her bow aside, they look kinda cartoonish and not in a good way either

I finally watched that video, and the whole "I went 4 hours without a single conversation" is extremely troubling to me.

I don't know about that. 5th edition has streamlined quite a bit...especially rogue abilities.

Stick to 3.5 and the earlier edition. 4 and up is just streamlined mmo wannabe stuff.

If they forget the lore, then I will, for my sanity, forget them.

They are trying to tighten up the lore. Things kind of got away from them with making DAO playable and then the jump to DA2. That is the reason bloodmage isn't an option. They have to hammer out what is and isn't lore about blood mages.  It gives me hope for the future that they will not play quite so loose with the lore in future games. DAO and DA2 were both giant clusters regarding lore.

I like 5th, much more fun and easier getting people together to play it. 4th was quite terrible, imo, but I know plenty of people who got into it because of 4th.

Just let the lorewriters look at the combat movements and say yes\no. That would solve plenty.

5 does look better. I agree. Still...the damages the 4th edition did to the forgotten realms etc can't be repaired. A sick amount of players have jumped over to Pathfinder because of it.

I have some apprehensions about the games too, like lack of quality, meaningiful quests and instead getting a bunch of "fetch" type quests, but it is not fair to make a decision this early that the whole game is bad. This is a perfect example, where people let hype and high expectations get in the way of enjoying a good game.

My advice, try not to let a few negative remarks get you down about the game, give the game a fair chance first.

I don't get what he was doing then. In all the videos there are convos going on.  You have a great conversation with the revered mother in the hinterlands, Corporal Vale has a slew of convo options about the area.  Plus, there are a ton of convo options back at your base either skyhold or Haven.

So is the 'nobody notices that you are a Quinari mage', sort of like how 'nobody notcied that Shepard was a biotic in Mass Effect'? lol

If you want full control over all of your character's stats/abilities/look/feel/etc the only way to play is pen and paper.

Perhaps what Roy should have said was 'pen and paper not created by a CCG maker'.

4 hours without a conversation sounds a bit odd. I think that bit is on the player, and not the game.

Eh, forgotten realms is still king to me, and 5th helped tremendously with the damage 4th did. I'll always be a Forgotten Realms junkie though, as long as R.A and Ed are part of it.

This game is making me really concerned after.. wait I haven't played it yet so maybe I should just wait until it's out until I base my opinions off someone else's brief glimpse.

As far as customization goes - I believe you can learn schematics for just about everything - including armor. And make them using different materials. Giving it different stats and requirements.

Essentially - I'm hoping I could make some awesome looking Mage robes out of Rogue/Warrior specialised materials, and make it for my Rogue/Warrior. And Vice Versa.

And yes - Rogues are stuck with Daggers, but it has been said that they will vary cosmetically, and they will have vastly different appearances. I believe comparisons to Short Swords and the like were used when someone asked if Rogues were getting back large weapons.

Why would you want to do that???

This isn't the sims. Geez.. some of you guys want to take role-playing too far.

Why the hell not?  Skyrim have them and many other open world game have them.  Make the game less one dimensional.

Ed is doing the foreword for a new setting I am involved in making, actually.

Aaaaaand, I ran outta likes... By far my favorite  Arnie quote ever...

Also, those words you said. I like them to - if you say them like Arnie, I'll like them more.
