Since Origin's fans are regarded by devs as vestigial or naive (example), and Warden absence is confirmed (it seems DA franchise has to move forward, but hey, let's bring Hawke again beacuse you know, she was so awesome), will be able at least to ignore Hawke's quest or whatever she does in Inquisition? Or her quest/appearence/cameo will be unavoidable?

I don't like her and it would be cool that players could ignore her appearence without consequence.

Do we really need another one of these threads...?

I doubt we will be able to ignore Hawke, it has been said that he/she will play an important role after all. And Gaider didn't call Origins fans naive in that example...

A large portion of your Keep data includes Hawke. Chances are good s/he will be part of the main story. Sorry...

I'm not sure if you knew this, but Hawke was supposed to have their story continue after the main game of DA2.  It was called "The Exalted March," and they were planning on doing it to continue Hawke's story.  However, thanks to EA trying to rush BioWare again, the expansion had to be put aside in favor of the new game.  The devs decided to roll in the planned expansion into what is now DA:I.

Based on that, you're probably going to have to deal with him/her to at least some extent.

No Idea, but if it is unavoidable, you can treat her/him as a meat shield to be first slaughtered on the battle field.

Or you can treat him as some temporary, unknow NPC helping you during few quests.

I am going to go with the former choice, you can pick yours  :P

I agree, Hawke was pretty awesome. I'm hoping we actually get to interact with him a lot. But ya, I dont think you can avoid it.

After meeting Hawke:

Cassandra:  That's not how you described him

Varric:  I may have embellished a little...

Cassandra:  And what's that red thing on his face?  A birthmark?   A scar?

Varric:  Nobody knows, seeker.  Nobody knows.

Oh, I know, nothing you can do with the  "mah warden" and "Hawke sucks" other then roll with it and ignore the implications. It's like a game, at this point.

Pretty sure Hawke plays a very big part. In one of the trailers default male Hawke is shown with the party several times without the inquisitor. (my guess is they are going to rescue the Quizzy or something)

Don't worry, the Devs have made sure that Hawke will show up to save the day every time the Inq is in trouble. Mid way through the game you'll have to choose between handing the Inquisition over to Hawke because of how awesome he is or comitting sepeku because of how much inferior the Inq is. Then the rest of the game is about Hawke being awesome and fighting all the remaining Archdemons at once, including one possessing the Warden.

Glorious game isn't it? :P

Tone is lost over text on occasion, and it's surprising what some folks take seriously.  Hard to tell sometimes.   ;)

Anyhow, sorry that you have to deal with a returning character you dislike OP.  No sarcasm either; that can't be fun.  Unfortunately, it looks like that Hawke will be mandatory to interact with at some point in the game.  Hopefully for your sake, you can have it as brief and fleeting as possible.   :)

Um, maybe its just me but David Gaider's response seemed perfectly reasonable. He's not making a statement about fans of DO:O in general (of which i am one), he's just saying that expecting the third game in a series to focus on the protagonist of the first game isn't going to happen.

*sigh*

I doubt so. But I hope this is possible

Or at least my Inquisitor can insult Hawke as much as possible. It's also fitting for my pro-Templar Adaar to hate a mage who helped (not like she did want to help) to start this ridiculous civil war

Unfortunatelly the Bioware seems to love Hawke a lot and hate the Warden no less. I guess all I can do is to hope that I can make Hawke's existance as shitty as it should be

I'm Looking forward to Hawke actually, and in no way did the dev's dismiss DA:O fans. All he was doing was making sure that expectations were kept in check. The Warden is not appearing in person, it's a fact, time to accept it and move on. That doesn't mean they are not important to the story and that DA:O is not important, and implying otherwise without playing the game first is silly.

Bring on the hate.

You accuse Bioware of thinking less of their Origins fans while it obviously couldn't be farther from the truth. Those fans are what made the series happen, and established Thedas as a force to be reckoned with in the world of gaming fantasy. From a fandom standpoint, players who enjoyed Origins are absolutely in the majority. From an business standpoint, there's no denying that DA: O vastly outsold DA2. Consider the complexity of the issues that would need to be faced if the Warden needed to make an appearance. Hawke has an established voice, story and personality in the lore - a luxury the Warden does not share. Say what you will about Hawke, you may have hated the game where s/he starred, but s/he is far from being a bad character to bring back to the limelight - or a bad character at all for that matter.

If you honestly can't stand the character on the notion that you would rather have the Warden return as opposed to Hawke, you're really failing to see the story-telling value of either characters.

I'm looking forward to Hawke being in DA:I as well, but I can certainly see why some folks hate her/him.  I don't agree with the dislike, but some posters have brought up valid points explaining their view.

Oh for crying out loud OP, could you pout a little more? Seriously, I loved my Wardens but post like these are making me wish Bioware just killed them all and had done with it.

This isn't the continuing story of Hawke any more than its the continuing story of the Warden. Hawke is directly tied to the events of this game, the Warden is not. Hawkes last appearance was a lot more recent than 10 years ago.

If the narrative supports it then great, I'm all for familiar faces but shoehorning anyone in just for fan service is a terrible idea.

Or it could be that Hawke's story expansion wasn't finished and the Warden's WAS but pulling facts like that out of your bum should come as no surprise.
