Hmm... I wonder if we'll be given that choice, and it turns out to be a Dragon Age version of this:
Noo....nooo....not again....

You kill the Elder One, we know that much.
If we can side with the Elder One I also want to backstab and replace him

Mike Laidlaw said the bad guys could win, the real question is then - does that mean you dying, or joining / replacing the villain?
Wait when did he say that?
Wait when did he say that?
I assume the defeated Thedas will be non-canon. Because I can't see any sequels where demons run the show. Just like the refuse ending is non-canon.
Im happy if we can have an intelligent discussion with the main villain (Discussion not monologue), and get the option to side with him/her.
I find it INFURIATINGLY STUPID that main characters of games cannot join the antagonist.Mike Laidlaw said the bad guys could win, the real question is then - does that mean you dying, or joining / replacing the villain?
You can do something like that in NWN 2 Mask of the Betrayer. Or rather, you can do something to the final antagonist, have all of your companions turn on you for making that decision, and... well, I don't want to spoil it anymore.

One of the problems with joining the villain is continuity. You know, importing those decisions into the next game.
*SPOILER* The Elder One becomes your BFF at the end, no matter what choices you make.
you say that as a joke but what if there is a partnership to be had?
you get 3 Choices
1 Old man Jenkins was the Arch deamon this whole time.
and he would have gotten away whit it to if it wasnt for you meddeling Inqusition and your dog.
2 Just as your about to be killed by the Villan the Normandy Crashes on top of it.
3 Green
I DIED when I read #3

It will end with a scene fading into light showing a single dwarf standing in a dark place...
this dwarf turns around and says......

It most likely would be a elaborate game over screen like the ME2 ending where everyone but Joker dies or the Refusal ending.
So some people want to Join the Elder One in creating some demon paradise....Do you expect this to be canon or just a failure state in the game which will be ignored in the Sequel? If you expect the former prepare to be disappointed.
EPIC BATTLE AND
then it cuts to.
Kinda curious - for those who want to be all "end of the world" - would you also be unhappy that the choice will so obviously be retconned?
No, I wouldn't. It's unrealistic to expect them to keep an 'end of the world' ending as canon, as it would severely limit the possibilities for future games. It's nice to have that option there, though, as it give more freedom to the player as well as making the ending/game more engaging and consequential. It's like the chance of failure makes the choices that you make all the more important. An example of this would be the 'Bad ME2 ending' where Shepard dies. It's not canon, but the possibility of it happening in a playthough makes the game more tense and the game/choices more interesting.
You can also side with the main antagonist in vanilla NWN 2 and one of the antagonists in NWN Hordes of the Underdark and kind of become the antagonist at the end of the Baldur's Gate seriesYou can do something like that in NWN 2 Mask of the Betrayer. Or rather, you can do something to the final antagonist, have all of your companions turn on you for making that decision, and... well, I don't want to spoil it anymore.
2 Just as your about to be killed by the Villan the Normandy Crashes on top of it.
I think I'd enjoy that more than I should.
Kinda curious - for those who want to be all "end of the world" - would you also be unhappy that the choice will so obviously be retconned?
Hmm, I'd say it depends...they released a graphic novel series with Alister clearly as King of Ferelden...we could get a lovely story where mages are running around naked, slitting their wrists in some mad blood mage ritual. If they did something like that, I'd be pretty okay with it. Heck they shouldn't even do it officially, just write it, post it to some fan fiction website under a false name and laugh maniacally as people read it.
The Breach can't be sealed, you have three options:
Destroy the Fade but it will render every mage Tranquil.
Control the Fade. The Inquisitor will become the new Maker but be trapped in the Black City for eternity.
Merge the Fade and Thedas. Everyone become possessed by spirit or demons.
Don't you mean "If the Breach can't be sealed"? Still if there's some requirements to being able to seal the Breach that you don't meet, I think these mock ME3 ending ideas wouldn't be too bad. It depends on how they're delivered.
I'm fairly certain that such a choice would be similar to Mass Effect 2's total death ending where Shepard dies. It's not retconned, it's just a "what-if". I kinda like this approach myself.
Probably, still it would be fun to read about all the mad things demons would do...I mean they've never done things like...sex, so imagine the madness they'd get up to...I think Humorous Hawke would enjoy it at least.
Better yet The Warden is the Inquisitor and the Inquisitor is you?
AND THE DOG IS SIR POUNCE-A-LOT.
META.
Unlikely, but still a fun idea. Actually this makes me want the ability to get a cat and name it Sir Pounce-A-Lot...or a Griffin, called Feathers would be nice.

True. What about the characters though? They have stories beyond the games ending, what happens to them?

Canon accepted.
EPIC BATTLE AND
then it cuts to.
I want that to happen just before the "Enchantment" suggestion made before yours...
The Fade tears were a ruse to affix the surface dwellers attention up. Just as the Inquisition spends its remaining resources to close the last tears, billions of battle hardened nugs fresh from their cuddly conquest of the darkspawn AND the dwarves, erupt into the surface led by their general's, Nughis Khan, Nugexander the Nug, and Nugpolean.
A swift and terrible (and adorable) conquest sweeps across Thedas, culminating in a last stand at Skyhold. The Inquisitor and their companions fought a brief and futile battle. All of them fell until only Leliana remained. Carried into the throne room barely conscious, she looked up. Kneeling before the throne are Nughis Khan, Nugexander the Nug, and Nugpolean. As her vision focused, a horrifying recognition took hold. Sitting on the throne was an all too familiar set of whiskers around perhaps the most cuddle inducing snout of all time.
Suddenly all around her a booming chorus rang out: All Hail Emperor Schmooples!
I always knew they were the real threat. Kirkwall was right in their mass slaughter of them...those that deemed them mad will pay, but Kirkwall will stand...I guess Liliana will be the first to go, but the claws of her pet nug.
Im happy if we can have an intelligent discussion with the main villain (Discussion not monologue), and get the option to side with him/her.

*WARNING: MILD SPOILERS AHEAD TO ALPHA PROTOCOL, ARCANUM, NWN2 AHEAD*
Oh, I so totally agree, having the option to side with antagonist in these types of stories is great. For example, whenenever I play through Alpha Protocol I always choose to side with the big bad arms dealer, then usually backstab him and take over -- it just seems so much more satisfying then the somewhat cliche ride off into the sunset ending. The caveat here is there needs to be some actual reason for my character to side with the antagonist -- I'm not really a fan of the NWN2 evil ending, because there is really no reason to side with the big bad there, he's not really offering anything that most people would find appealing.
What I really hope they don't do is what Arcanum did, where the main antagonist has a motivation I agree with and seems to be well thought out, if a bit extreme, so you side with him. Then the game suddenly decides that he is "betraying" you and you fight back when you dying is very much a part of the plan. I was so disappointed by that ending, given that it capped off what was otherwise a truly excellent game. On the other hand, I would absolutely love if the Elder One's motivation is something like the antagonist here, and that you can agree with him and join his side.

I doubt it. The Elder One is clearly from the Fade (as far as we know) so it's probably a really powerful demon. Demons aren't know for having motives we can get behind.
EPIC DANCE OFF.
The bad guy just got served some ownage. yall
Am I a immature child if I don't want to debate ideologies and philosophies with The Elder One and just stab him multiple times?
Not immature, just simple ![]()

If you want to see the world burn... then this ending is not defined as failure but reaching your goal.
You sit down with the Elder One over some tea and buscuits and come to a mutual understanding and the aggression ends. Everyone is happy and ride rainbow farting unicorns off into the sunset.
