Did BW plan for ME4 when they wrote the ending to ME3?

That is the post I was thinking of. Mass relays destroyed, post-apocalyptic conditions for all the races of the galaxy, starvation and death of turians and quarians stranded on Earth/in Earth's system, etc etc etc. That was Mac Walters and Casey Hudson's initial *desired* state of the galaxy. Then later they had the temerity to come out and say "Hey hey wait, all those things we implied and confirmed? We didn't mean any of that. We don't understand why you thought this stuff would happen!"

Yes, because the galaxy would be a "wasteland" after the Reaper war.

Remember Earth? Copy and paste that all over the place. That would be the DLC atmosphere.

There was a quote from Mac the day before ME3's release where he was asked if they'd want to make a sequel after 3, and he said "no, it would just be a barren wasteland"... Also confirming that in Mac and Casey's insanity they actually intended to crush the galaxy in the original endings.

I'm sure he was only referring to a direct 'Adventures of Shepard no. 4' sequel. It would've been downright mad to just shut down Mass Effect as a franchise when a. it's so popular and b. it's got so much potential for further development. In fact I'm sure I remember Ray Muzyka talking about the franchise going beyond the trilogy before ME2 was even out.

It was actually in reference to story-based dlc:

No. Otherwise there would not be so much potential variance in end state.

Ah. Fair enough then, he's not really wrong, post-ending DLC wouldn't have really worked regardless of the endings imo.

its the reaper war. Of course the galaxy would be in ruin afterwards. They were written from the first game to be this powerful. Should have been expected.
