I think the thread title is inaccurate.
It does not sound to me like DA:I was planned as an MP-only game at any point. It sounds like there was an idea, one of many brainstormed ideas that was never actually used, which is not the same thing.

Thread title is misleading. Inquisition was not initially an mp-only game;the truth is that the earliest things that eventually made it into Inquisition were originally from a mp-only title.
This is like beating the dead horse for the millionth time. Who cares?
I would have no problem with Bioware creating a stand alone MMO game in any one of their pre-existing franchise Universes. Mass Effect's Universe is a perfect template for it - it would be incredible. SP needn't monopolize every game developed for the worlds of Dragon Age and Mass Effect, especially when there is so much potential there.
Wow. Just, wow.
"Dragon Age Inquisition began life as a multiplayer-only game"
Wow. Just, wow.
Read the article, don't be misled by the thread title. Paul Heyman's made mistakes before, its okay.

Ya, that title is click bait and half the reason we dont get more stories like this, imo.
Link?DAO was going to be more NWN style at one point in the design. It was a bit like a proto-SWTOR. The origin stories were originally going to be a start for each MP Warden and they would all meet up at Ostagar and become GWs together.

Link?
I don't have a link. The link is the fact that I've been around here since the old, old Bioware forums. Back in the days when the Qunari were themor and we thought they were lizard people (because they had tails), when TheDAS was just starting to come into vogue as the acronym for the proper name of the setting, and when Ostagar was still done in the old, old NWN1 Aurora Engine.
Oh god... If the DA franchise goes the way of mediocre MMOs I'm gonna be pissed. They've already done that with KOTOR, so hopefully they learned their lesson.
Dragon age Multiplayer only after DA2 would've been a fine way to kill the franchise, rape the corpse, and take a dump on it.
In an alternate universe, DA:I ended up as MP only. Dark universe.
In another alternate universe, DA:I ended up as SP only. The utopia universe.
In this universe, DA:I ended up as SP+MP. Grey universe.
It couldve been better, but also worse.

Fixed.
Fixed.
considering how badly new mmos have done recently(eso, wildstar), SP only is better. MMO's/MP games in general are saturated right now.

Right now? The MMO's been killing off the SP RPG for the last decade.

Explains the SWTOR design choices.
Makes sense, since the FB3 is an engine built for a MP game. It was only logical to fiddle around in the tech's comfort zone in the beginning before cranking up the ambition switch.
