At this point I think people are making labels up just to screw with other people.

Never say never.  Maybe someday you will.

Tell her that. She just laughed and hung up on me.

Why people insist on making this more complicated than it actually is, I don't understand.

If you're a man and you are sexually attracted to another man, you're either homosexual or bisexual. Done deal.

If you're a woman and you are sexually attracted to another woman, you're either homosexual or bisexual. That's it.

Also, people who are blackout-drunk are in no way liable to give consent on account of being impaired, in a legal sense (and a moral sense depending on who you ask).

Why a person would have sex with another person is irrelevant, orientation is decided by who or what a person is attracted to.

Well I guess you could technically be pansexual in either case.. as well.

Back on the topic one question I always had was how do you know most typical romances aren't demisexual in nature? Most romances in most games or romantic elements don't have tons of casual sex or something, actually, you don't even know most of the time if characters are experiencing any sexual stimulation at all so... could they not already be demisexual? What is the distinguishing characteristic, if not just the act of announcing their demisexuality?

Well, this place had some interesting discussions while I was away. Don't really know what I should reply to right now.

These countless prefixes for sexualities / genderstuff are getting way too ridiculous, it's pretty much impossible to keep up with a new one every day.

All I want is australopithecusexual romances for my supercalifragilisticexpialidocious playable characters...

There have already been characters who don't confess attraction until they form an emotional bond with the protagonist, so I'd say that demisexuality is already represented. The characters don't self-identify as demisexual because the word isn't really part of the Dragon Age lexicon, but I'm guessing that most RL demisexuals don't walk up to people and proclaim their sexuality either. It's intimate personal information, and not really something you'd share with someone unless it became relevant, i.e. the relationship was becoming romantic. Thedas doesn't have specific words for heterosexuality or homosexuality either, but that hasn't prevented the writers from giving us heterosexual or homosexual (or bi- or pan-) characters.

You and the others who brought this up make a good point. For the Dragon Age franchise, since the terminology doesn't exist in the universe the confirmation of the orientation from a developer would be enough, like how Patrick Weekes confirmed The Iron Bull as pansexual. For other projects like Mass Effect, it would be easier to handle since the terminology exists in those universes.

If you have sex with someone you're not attracted to, you're an idiot.

Gold diggers, hookers, people looking for citizenship, a job promotion, or just looking to get ahead in life, do it all the time.

I have a question. Could Liara be interperated as demisexual? She's had no experience of romance or sexuality until meeting Shepard (the game, especially her dad, notes how unusual that is for an asari of her age), she shows no inclination to anyone other than Shepard, aside from one line in LotSB that's open to interpitaion, and seems really hesitant about the romance all the way up to the Preidium scene in ME3.

It would explain her actions in ME2, actions that some people have called stalkerish. Not saying demisexual people are crazy stalkers but it would give context to things like having Shepard's armour on display in her apartment and of course handing Shepard's body to Cerberus in the first place.

I dunno, just trying to get a better understanding here.

EDIT: Oh a someone else already brought up that idea. Damn me for not reading the whole thread.

Eh, people have sex with others they aren't attracted to for various reasons. As I have said before it is like watching a show you find boring but makes your partner really happy.

Hello Bioware,

A demisexual is a person who does not experience sexual attraction unless they form a strong emotional connection with someone. It's more commonly seen in but by no means confined to romantic relationships. The term demisexual comes from the orientation being "halfway between" sexual and asexual.

this demisexual term is just made up nonsense. And here is why

let's say you meet a guy and are not attracted to him so sex is out of table. He become your friend and you end up having a lot in common. Any two people who willingly spend a lot of time together form strong emotional bond (either positive or negative). So after some time this guy would seem to you more attractive then when you meet him. Suddenly an idea of sex is not that repulsive cos you have strong emotional bond.

it's look like 50% of heterosexual relationships...

all you want is just a way to implement deeper form or romancing, which isn't a bad thing, but you could write it in three sentences and not hide behind lack of "demisexual" orientation

There's too many "sexuals".  Can't we just collecively not give a ship and call one either sexual or asexual. That'd be great. Tired of all this self-important labelling.

I agree, but alas it's pointless to argue about this.

Frankly, it's a game and it is impossible to cater for every single sub set of some set of some half defined lucid tumblr sexuality trend.

Huh? And how is "call one either sexual or asexual" not labelling? Sometimes labelling can be useful. I find it useful for my friends to know I am asexual for example.

The difference lies in the number of labels. At this rate it's only a matter of time untill we'll have labels for people who only fancy redheads - rougosexual maybe - and so on, so forth.

Labeling is divisive.  It's ironic that some people require these terms to feel respected and yet it is the creation of terms that always divide and create a lack of respect as people fall back into the type of tribalism that evolution always seems to produce.

The more we do it, over a period of time we could very easily adapt into distinctions that could very easily change the world and not for the better.

I wish we were all just "humans".

I'm not being cheeky or snarky, but how is it useful?

Why aren't you just "you" an incredibly unique individual whose possibilities are limitless?

No everyone must be represented but first i think we should have motorsexual romance. It would be hard in DA but maybe in ME.
