There's nothing better than having a majority member lecture a minority about their minority issues. Did it ever cross your mind that it's not important to you because you have no reason for it to be important? Everyone and everything around you is constantly validating your existence, so of course this is inconsequential to you. Rather than preaching your psuedo free love, perhaps you should try being empathetic enough to understand why people feel the way they do rather than just writing off the opinions of people who are actually living the experience with your straightsplaining.
Pump the brakes on the generalizations and snip. I asked questions. Questions aren't lectures. They are questions. It was actually a serious question because I do not understand the need to be in a group so I asked a question about it.
You are bringing some serious shade at me on this one with your "straightsplainin' label". First, I don't believe in labels because I have sex with humans, not sexes. But since you like labels so much I've had sex with men AND women, so I don't know how to 'straightsplain" anything.
Is there such a thing as "Bisplain"? How about Pansplain? Or maybe "IDidTooManyShroomsandHadSexWithSomeoneSplaining"?
Care to make one more BS generalization about a stranger? Tell me what kind of car I drive or dog I own now since you know me so well?

They aren't when they say things like "[majority] can't speak about [minority]'s issues! they aren't [minority]!" I shouldn't have to explain why that's bad.

Just catching up on this thread but to get back to the original idea...
Forgive me if this is an overly simple suggestion but if you wanted a demisexual romance why couldn't you just have the character state that in the past they've only developed an attraction to someone after feeling deeply connected to that person? There are degrees in between "clunky exposition/having to directly define terminology" and "vague indications." (I'm kind of referring to some of the discussion that was going on earlier in the thread.)
I get if you don't want a character to bluntly refer to themselves as demisexual because it would feel like unnatural dialogue when other characters don't specifically state their sexual orientation. However, there certainly have been instances where a character has given information about their preferences or sexuality by way of fairly straightforward statements. Didn't Jack in ME have a line to the effect of "I'm not into girls" or "I don't swing that way" or something like that? Cassandra also makes it pretty clear she's not into women without having to flat out say "I'm straight."
I guess my suggestion would be, if trying for a demisexual character, to write the person as someone who's had such relationships in the past and just explains the concept up front. (Well, there would need to be an appropriate context for the conversation of course...although it's not like it would be much of a stretch for an rpg protagonist to randomly ask an npc a fairly personal question out of the blue.)
Incidentally, this is the first I've even heard of this term. Yay for learning new things on message boards!

You know, it occurs to me that human-Cole would actually be perfect for representing the kind of romance that you're asking for if he were to return in the next game. It's been shown and stated numerous times that Cole doesn't have any sort of interest in romance and sexuality, but as a former spirit of compassion, it would make sense for him to develop an attraction to people he's emotionally close to. It'd probably be best to give him a few years to grow into his new form, though, since the fact that he still has a fairly naive and childish mindset at the moment is kinda icky.

I've heard of this term a few times on Tumblr and much drama attached to it. Nothing good comes out of the drama really.
Anyway, that is a nice suggestion! I think the conversation about the demisexual character's past relationship can come up in, say, the first romance scene, or after your protagonist flirts them enough time. In that scene, your pc can ask for sex, and that's when the character says something along the lines of "I don't really find people/anyone/you/partner sexually attractive, except for when I get really really connected with them." And then you have an option to investigate where the character can tell you about their past relationship and further explain their demisexuality (of course, not using the word itself in the scene.).

I dunno ventums *pinches cheek*
Please tell me you're joking. Forgive the statement, but it's been that kind of week on the forums.
I was joking, and not joking at the same-time. It was too tempting not to respond to it. Plus I have a thing about porn being normalised, and it's harmful psychological affects on teenagers. Men in particular are affected by it
'Sexually explicit material triggers mirror neurons in the male brain. These neurons, which are involved with the process for how to mimic a behavior, contain a motor system that correlates to the planning out of a behavior. In the case of pornography, this mirror neuron system triggers the arousal, which leads to sexual tension and a need for an outlet. “The unfortunate reality is that when he acts out (often by masturbating), this leads to hormonal and neurological consequences, which are designed to bind him to the object he is focising on.
This video explains it better:

Hey, you know what else triggers dopamine release? Chocolate! And if people keep eating loads and loads of chocolate, then regular foods will become less appetizing for them and eventually, they'll want nothing but chocolate all the time instead of real food. So let's stop normalizing chocolate-eating, guys. It's obviously unhealthy and harmful to the youth. Think of the children!
Oh what's that? Most people can eat chocolate in moderation and still enjoy other foods? Well, gee, I don't know. Moderation and self control sound hard. Better to just broadly condemn chocolate in general as a hazardous product that has no place in normal society.

I could do with a little less sexuality in general - especially a little less instrumentalisation of it.
The release of all romance options prior to shipping the game was utterly disturbing to me. This is supposed to be a nice little mystery uncovered as a reward for bonding with your companions, not something like "does it have 60 fps? does it have multiplayer? does the romance suplot cater to my particular sexuality?"
Don't get me wrong, I don't mean to say "it's a videogame, get out and get a real [whatever chokes your goat] ye nerds", and I am not criticising anyone's sexuality (as long as it's not immoral according to my personal beliefs - which are all is fine if no one gets hurt or abused). If you are built a certain way and you want a game to include that, all power to you. I'm a straight male, so thanks to mainstream marketing I don't have to fear I'm gonna get the short end of the stick (or any stick, hahaha, I'll show myself out) anyways.
However, the matter-of-factliness in which the topic is discussed before during and after the launch(es) at this point, turns these plots into more of a shopping list and is kind of killing every emotional component to it for me. Which is kind of funny, when you think about it.

SIgh, it's actually not the same thing. Does increased chocolate expose increase sexual-violance? No. Does long time exposure to chocolate break down marriages? Does exposure to chocolate spread disease? And does chocolate change the structure of your brain? If you keep eating chocolate and needing stronger chocolate, can it lead you down the path of pedophilia?
But who cares right? I mean when men are getting abused, and manipulated unknowingly, by business/media it's okay ![]()

Does exposure to chocolate spread disease?
It increases obesity and risk for diabetes, so yeah, prolonged exposure to chocolate does indeed spread disease. In fact the diseases associated with excessive chocolate consumption are some of the most deadly we have. Guess what? Eating chocolate is still normal and fine in moderation. Hell, it's fine in occasional excess.
Also, how the hell does exposure to pornography spread disease? It'll spread viruses, sure, but that's only if you're downloading....
Does long time exposure to chocolate break down marriages?
If the chocolate-eating of one partner were vilified by the other, instead of just accepted as a normal activity that people engage in...
Does increased chocolate expose increase sexual-violance?
Are you going to cite something to support your implication that pornography increases sexual violence? Because here's my citation arguing against that. Also this nifty little tidbit:
In a two-wave legalization process, Denmark, a small Scandinavian country, became the first country in the world to legalize pornography. In 1967, all pornographic text material was legalized, followed by the legalization of all visual pornography in 1969 (Hald, 2007). Both before and after this legalization process, the effects of pornography were hotly debated. Consequently, immediately after legalization, research was launched to investigate the effects of pornography predominantly on sexually aggressive behaviors. Correlational research at the aggregate level connecting the circulation of pornography with sexual aggression was used (for critique of this approach, see also Kingston & Malamuth, 2011). The results showed a decline in sexual aggression after the legalization of pornography (Kutchinsky, 1991), which was taken as an indication that pornography probably did not adversely affect sexually aggressive behaviors and perhaps even worked as a buffer against them.
And does chocolate change the structure of your brain?
Everything changes the structure of your brain. The "rewiring" that your little video talks about is nothing more than the brain reacting to any kind of reinforcement learning. Studying math rewires your brain. Learning to play an instrument rewires your brain. Playing video games rewires your brain! Oh and look a handful of inconclusive studies that vaguely associate video games with violence! Down with video games!
can it lead you down the path of pedophilia?
You're actually going to claim that pornography makes people pedophiles. Really? I mean, really? I'm not even going to dignify that by asking for a citation I know doesn't exist.

Bingo.
Well said, bro.
Now I'm just going to throw my two cents in -- as has been stated time and time again, there is far too much labelling going on, and far too much focus on said labels.
I'm not saying that I believe demisexuality is a fairy tale or a myth; I do believe in it, to a certain degree. I just put it down to the fact that everybody has their own way of doing things, when it comes to sex, romance, relationships and what not. For instance, you have people who will get it on with anybody, and perhaps, may not even care about primary sexual attraction. They just want sex, just want to get off, and it's as simple as that.
Then you have people who won't get it on with somebody until they are emotionally attached, and have gotten to know somebody.
Plus, there is all sorts of in between...
At the end of the day, it's down to how the individual is wired. It is what it is, and quite frankly, all of these labels are going a bit overboard.
I'm a lesbian.. so I get homosexuality. I clearly get heterosexuality, as it is the "norm". I completely understand asexuality too.. however, there are other "sexual orientation" labels coming forth, and accompanying this, is a need and a desire for "representation" in media.
I'll repeat something else; you can most certainly "headcanon" a demisexual orientation, if need be. Thanks to the Anders clusterfuck, you now have to work your butt off to impress, and somewhat get to know your LI in DA:I. Save for a couple of rare cases, your LI doesn't really seem to give two tosses, nor do they want to jump your bones straight away...
Also, we must remember the main focus of these games -- there is a storyline, which revolves around Thedas. Sexual relationships and romance only take up approx. five percent of these games at best. (Rough estimation, not set-in-stone. Thought I'd better mention that.) DA is not a dating sim created to fulfill our sexual and romantic (or lack thereof) desires. It is just a bit of fun on the side (pun not intended) to add something different, and interesting into the mix, besides the killing of enemies and the fantasy-based story.

DAI is marked as 18+, for all I care it can have real porn sequences and it would be fine by regulating organs. Instead it has one shot of topless body and hardly any violence besides the killing but the killing itself isn't violent enough to be marked 18+ (no torn limbs, slicing throats...) You can see "more naked" bodies in commercials and billboards all over the city.

I had to get to know Sera quite well before she would romance my inky. I even had to eat cookies on the roof and prank poor Josephine before she would consider me. Sera didn't jump into bed until we were friends, she didn't state that she was demisexual but it was not stretch of the imagination to headcannon it.
I understand the want for representation but the foundation of a demisexual relationship is there. I'd say only iron bull and maybe blackwall is ready to go without getting personally involved with the character on a deeper level.

Some of the romances in inquisition do have a demisexual approach though.

Exactly.
Although.. I've romanced Sera 5 + times now, and am very observant of her character, as I am somewhat obsessed..
I'm not sure if she is "demisexual" to be exact. I just think she's the type of girl that is loyal, and won't jump in bed with the inky mainly due to "trust issues".. for instance, if you play as qunari the first time she sees you, you're a sack of meat to her.
And she's always saying "woof", implying that she wants to jump into bed, but only in her mind, at that point.
So basically, she experiences that "primary sexual attraction/desire", but holds off because she wants to know the person she's sleeping with, a lot better and wants to know if she can trust. I recall her saying something along the lines of, "It's like a book. The cover looks good, but you have to see what's inside to see if it's actually good." (not exact wording, but basically the point). Besides, the romance begins as "just a bit of fun" and later on turns serious when she realises she's in love with you.

The only time I'd have problems with someone watching porn is if they start to prefer masturbating over sex with their partner. If your partner is there and willing you should ALWAYS choose your partner, end of story.
While I probably agree with you from my personal point of view, I feel that blanket statement to be a little judgemental. If someone prefers watching porn to having real sex, why shouldn't they? Different strokes for different folks I say. Let people be who they want to be rather than forcing them to be someone they are not.
