We f00king live in 2015. People need to stop assuming everyone is "heterosexual until proven otherwise". Seriously.

Why? Because now that it's 2015 people are more likely to be gay? It's programmed into you to make such assumptions. We judge by aesthetics and by societal norms. It may not be a good thing, but it's true. When I met my mom's cousin I assumed he was gay because he was interested in really gay-related things and seemed gay. It's not offensive in any way.

If someone assumes my sexual orientation incorrectly I'm not going to be offended.

It's natural in the sense it occurs in nature, yes, but those times it does it's a scientific abnormality, because human beings have an innate, deeper-than-all-else desire for self-preservation and reproduction. It's a fact of evolution itself, and it's one we cannot escape. Certainly humans can have different sexual tastes, and that's fine. No insult to them at all. But in the most basic, strict terms, homosexuality is abnormal to the human species. That ISN'T AN INSULT, it's just why people think of an individual as heterosexual until proven otherwise.

Homosexuality has been observed in over 65 documented species.

Just a FYI. It's not like it's an exclusively human trait.

He never said it was. This user has yet to say anything homophobic. I'm not a feminist, but that doesn't mean I hate women. He's not an LGBTQ advocate, but that doesn't mean he hates the LGBTQ community.

here's where you're wrong. 96% of people is hetero therefor is safe assumption to treat everyone as one until asked otherwise. You can be angry about it, but you can't be mad same as Japanese can't be mad that when introduce "western societies" will assume their second name is their surname

The thing is, no one will assume you're anything than heterosexual, hence you will never "be offended". It's not about offense. It's about getting real tired of it.

And why? Because we exist. Straight people aren't the only ones in this world and that's why they should stop assuming everyone is straight.

How is it insulting to say you're abnormal?

We're all abnormal.

Then there's no point in even mentioning it. It's a statement that contributes nothing to the discussion.

But who am I kidding, passive aggressively asserting the wrongness of homosexuality/etc. under the guise of "it's just science!" is always worth it.

Give me a break.

It's a natural occurrence, yes, but it isn't the norm. The norm is heterosexual reproduction, because that's what our own biology wires us to do. Going against that is abnormal. Natural? Sure, it's been witnessed in nature. Normal? No, it obstructs reproduction, which itself is one of the focal point of any sentient species' being. One of the characteristics a living thing must have to be deemed as such is the ability to reproduce, and in the vast majority of species only heterosexual species may reproduce, and those that can't do so asexually and/or gender-indirectly, such as via pollination. Again, that's not an insult or derogatory statement, it's what science itself states.

And I'm bringing it up to answer the question: "Why do people always view others as heterosexual until proven otherwise?". That's why.

I'm trying to figure out your thought process. What it being anyone fault has to do with what I wrote? And are you suggesting that things should be as they are because "majority" and "people are nice"? I'm really confused.

I'm saying making assumptions is natural.  It's efficient.  It may end up being wrong and then you say "I'm sorry", but we all assume the people we meet fit some majority standard.  That's not being a bad person, it just is.  I assume that the person I'm going to speak to speaks English when in America.  People will assume you're straight, not because they're mean but because most people are.

If, however, you're in a gay part of town like Dupont Circle it's safe to assume someone may be gay.

Look, I'm drinking...read between the beers.

...You do realize that it is indeed fact that heterosexuals are the majority, right?

I mean, if you go into a country where the majority of people are Spanish-speaking statistically, you wouldn't go up to a random person and assume they speak German. If you go into a country where the statistic majority identifies as Hindu, you wouldn't expect the first person you meet to be Christian. If you go into a country where crime is statistically higher than anywhere else in the world, you wouldn't be shocked if someone tried to rob you.

Statistics exist for a reason, and they very, very rarely lie. Just sayin'.

Okay, like I love my cat but cat love is not human love.  If two cats of the same sex chill that doesn't mean when I leave they're going for the KY.

Animals don't think in terms of gay or straight they think about mice, throwing up on your sweater, etc.

Even debating what animals do and applying it to people is weird.  We're people.  Gay people are people having people experiences in a willing, people way, not cat way.

Mainly because (and pay attention, because some of you will get highly offended if you don't pay attention) heterosexuality is the biological norm. Animals mate to reproduce in nature, and though homosexuality does occur, it's technically a biological mutation, an abnormal thing in nature. We assume everyone's heterosexual until proven otherwise because that's the biological, deep-rooted norm for our very own species. Heterosexuality is natural, homosexuality isn't. That's why it's more expected, and more common, for heterosexuality to be the norm in media and games, because it's nature's norm, and we as as any other animal view it as the normal and "expected" occurrence until we take a different mindset or it is proven otherwise.

That isn't an insult, it isn't meant to be insulting or degrading or anything of the sort, it's just a statement of scientific fact.

Talking to me as if I'm mentally challenged is not necessary a good thing, you will be much better off without your attempt at not insulting me.  ;)

We do assume it because the heterosexuals are the majority, which is the prevalent trait, however we also assume that artsy men are homosexuals, we assume many things based on our personal experience and social constructs, so it's not about biology exactly.

Homosexuality is a natural diversity, so it is "natural", it is just not the prevalent trait of the species.

Assuming they got the results from the 100% of the population of Earth, even the ones who hide it. Suuuuure. Keep believing it. Statistics always change.

No, my dear Zobert, you're wrong!

Remember that in the mind of an SJW Progressivist, straights and whites can never be offended! They're all patriarchal transphobe-homophobe-kinphobe-racephobe bigots who want to oppress you and enslave you!

It's impossible to insult or offend a white hetero, good sir, don't ever insist such foolishness!

But say one tiny thing about a homosexual or transsexual or member of a minority and you're ****** scum.
