Are weapons/armours level restricted in MP too?

Like they are in SP? If they are, I can foresee several problems with that setup. Like having to keep a set for each level of each class, or never promote. Or finding yourself with nothing to equip (past basics) should you actually promote.

Also are weapons/armours class restricted? Can I take Dwarf Legionnaire's heavy armour and give it to a Reaver character? Or shuffle around staves between mage classes? I ask because it's improbable I'll find good equip for all classes fast, so using hand-me-downs from more levelled class could be useful.

I don't think so. But some of the material drops are gonna be restricted to higher difficulties, so you will need a higher level character to get them.

I've read somewhere that the weapons and armors will be "instanced". If you want to use a particular sword on 2 different characters, you'll have to find/craft 2 copies as you won't be able to trade those weapons and armors between characters.

This has some pros and cons.

Pros:

  • Instead of unlocking 10 times the same weapon to fully upgraded it, you'll probably have the best version from the get go
  • The RNG store should account for that which would make it seem more generous
  • Ultra-rares should be easier to get
  • The loot should be more generous

Cons:

  • You'll have to find/craft more copies to have the same item on different characters
  • When a particular weapon becomes underpowered compared to what you have, you will have multiple copies of a useless weapon

Do you mean that any item will by default be restricted to specific kit? Or it'll be "bound on equip" or something?

I think the OP means:  you have a level 1 character;  play, earn xp up to level 20.  You then craft/find a level 20 weapon.

Upon promoting, and hence going back to level 1, can you now wear that level 20 item?

In ME3MP a level 1 could use a PPR X for example, so hopefully it would be the same in DAMP.

The second point about items bound to each class, not sure.  You find a +5 holy avenger sword:  your mage cannot use it, as it's class restricted;  you can give it to your warrior, but that sets it, and locks it out of your rogue using it.

And is this restricted to the family of characters (i.e.: you can transfer items to all mages) or restricted to specific kits (i.e.:  only Arcane Warrior can use this)?

I'm really not sure how it will work.

I don't think there is a level 20 weapon. It would be counter productive vs promoting. On the other hand, we know our character will have stats like strength, vitality, etc. So depending on how the "leveling" work up to level 20 you might not be able to use your favorite weapon until you're a certain level because of how you distribute your stat points. This might only be a temporary stepback because every time you promote your character you get 1 extra stat point. This might alleviate the situation altogether.

As for locked weapons to a specific class. I'm pretty sure a Warrior can't use a staff or a Mage can't use a greatsword. That would make sense.

And finally, locked weapons to characters. I think it might be like a normal inventory in single player. If 1 character has a good sword and you want to use it on another character, you either find/craft a new one or unequip it from the first character and give it to the second. Locking the weapon to 1 specific character would make little sense and over complicate everything.

Remember this is all guessing on my part...

I'm only guessing too, that's why I asked, in case there are people who know. Or hoping for dev answer.

One thing for certain, attribute gains on level-up are no longer in hands of players. These point are distributed automatically. Which is also why items are level-restricted in SP.

About class-restricted, it was a misspelling on my part, I meant kit-restricted. As in Keeper and Elementalist are kits, both of the same mage class, and I wonder if one will be able to take an item equipped by Keeper and give it to Elementalist to equip?

I'm wondering how this will work.  Hopefully there will either be a limit on total stats, or a limit on how high each individual stat can go.  My Elementalist has 5000 Willpower...

I do like how it basically rewards you for really taking the time to learn a character though.

You will probably have to deconstruct the desired item into a blueprint and craft it to your other character

One thing was answered from today's stream. Weapons, at least, are not kit locked, one can unequip a staff from Keeper and give it to Elementalist.

Also, extra stat point is given to all kits upon one kit's promotion. Possible kind of stat depends on class the kit being promoted belongs to: warriors grant CON (+HP), mages WILL(+mana/stamina) and rogues CUN(whatever that does in DAI).

Good question. If it's like ME3's MP, the weapons should NOT be level gated. Materials to craft better weapons from doing harder missions will be, however. That is, you will need to be well equipped to handle the more difficult missions. I believe the Armor is gated towards certain players classes-- as in what Specialization they are Reaver, Hunter, Rogue, Keeper, etc... From what I understood from the Twitch Stream, it's the armor that unlocks the other playable classes.

That's what it looked like in the twitch stream to me.  When they showed the equip screen, there was nothing shown to indicate any kind of level requirements.  I guess it's possible that it's because it was essentially a starter weapon, so would be useable at any level anyways, but I'd think there would still have been something to indicate that.
