Honestly, who ever asked for Dragon Age to be multiplayer?

After reading an article today which mentions how DA:I was originally planned as a multiplayer only game, and reading more and more about how the first DLC is going to be for multiplayer, I have to wonder.... Who the hell ever asked for multi player Dragon Age?

It's a single player game, which was built on single player fans. I hate multiplayer games. People generally completely ruin the immersion and fun of these games. Why make such epic companions if youre going to make us meet other players?

I played Neverwinter nights and never touched their multiplayer. Who honestly want this kind of thing?

Considering that the Original Dragon age was supposed to have Multiplayer support in the early planning stages, this really shouldn't surprise you.

The multiplayer has nothing to do with singleplayer. It's an entirely seperate game mode for people that want to experience the gameplay with other people. They're not "making" you meet other players. Don't want to play the multiplayer? Don't play it. Simple as.

Baldur's Gate did to.  You don't plan on playing MP.  I don't either really.

Not seeing your issue here, if you don't want to play MP, Bioware isn't forcing it on you.  So what if the first DLC is for MP?  If I don't want DLC I just don't buy it.  If you dislike MP, why would you want the DLC for it?

I've still never bought or put on my PC Darkspawn Chronicles.  Had no desire to play that.  I don't feel like I've missed out.

Considering MP is optional and you don't have to touch it I don't see the problem.

And personally I'm going to try it in fact I'm excited. It's the first one out of the 3 that will let you play with others.

Edit: I saw somewhere that MP dlc is going to be free like in ME3.

I never asked for it, but DA:I wasnt originally planned as a multiplayer game, it's previous iteration was(which got canceled and DA:I was born). I'd guess some of it was the relatively low sales that both DA:O and DA2 experienced, and were going to try and experiment, but then they saw with Skyrim that RPG's are profitable, you just have to do it correctly.

The MP DLC is all free too. I downloaded the ME3 stuff simply to have it, in case I ever wanted to play MP (I never did outside of getting the 100% readiness trophy).

Regarding who asked for it? Why is this even relevant, really? People ask for stuff they know. If the DAMP is terrible, I'm sure people won't ask for it again. Nobody asked for ME3MP either, but it was a runaway success.

Ah so the dlc is free, I thought one of the devs confirmed that in a stream I can't remember lol

I was shocked when Dragon Age: Origins was not a multiplayer game actually, so i never asked for it but i did expect it after playing neverwinter nights and baldurs gate multiplayer.

I did, but I also like that it is completely separate from the single player. Best of both worlds.

Ya, I think some people remember BW from KOTRO and Jade Empire. Some of us older people remember them for BG1&2 so multiplayer was expected. It's all relative to perspective really.

Executives. Gotta push those microtransactions to pay for that "free" DLC.

And personally, the more the MP is involved, the more the campaign suffers. BG merely "had" it, and the campaign was good. NWN revolved around it, and it was noticeably less so. ME3 tried pushing it into the campaign, and it blew up like Mount Vesuvius.

Maybe, just maybe the massive success that was ME3 MP had something to do with it? And that franchise was strictly SP until it was added.

Adding MP definitely expanded the player base and it's still played by a quite large player base (guessing here that quite few still play the SP campaign)

I'd argue "it blowing up" was more specific to the forums, seeing as how much of a success ME3's multiplayer is viewed by a lot of people(including me, probably the best part for me and I even liked ME3 SP a lot)

I likely did back in the days where I believed it remained possible for anonymous Players to gather and interact with civility and mutual cooperation, and enjoyment. Then I began to read the forums of Youtube....

It's kind of bull to say that MP doesn't affect single player in the slightest. It does in the sense that X amount of time and Y amount of money is allocated to a game, and if money and time are going to MP, then that's money and time that isn't spent on single player.

It isn't. You'll note this by Bioware literally saying everywhere numerous times how it doesn't effect SP, and even previews have to put the information in prominently. It did not go over well a lot of places.

...and from what you've seen of the singleplayer, would you say the scope of the game has suffered due to the inclusion of multiplayer? Is the game lacking content?

Inquisition already looks like it'll be the biggest BioWare game to date. I don't think you have anything to worry about.

Agreed, but when I watch some new popular vid of a child laughing for the first time, and see the cruel, violent, and profane things some people choose to say in public, it repulses me to the extreme. It might be best to restrict postings from such vids altogether, and I personally restrict my interactions to threads of a more known nature.

And then there is MMO behavior....

It functions basically identically to ME3MP. So all the additional maps and characters will be free so that the player base doesn't get fractured. Then you will earn gold (credits) by playing to let you 'purchase' chests with new appearances, etc. You can also pay real money for 'platinum' to buy the chests. So it's the same kind of free expansions+microtransaction system that ME3 used.

Assuming that the games development budget would have been exactly the same without multiplayer. Different teams, parrallel development. Independant budgets.
