Honestly, who ever asked for Dragon Age to be multiplayer?

Do...people need to ask? I for one am loving what I'm seeing and hearing about the multiplayer, and it looks as if its very well done...but please oh please...lets not start this whole "They could have spent that time on the singleplayer!" stuff...multiplayer may not be for you, but the game isn't catered for you.

While i like multiplayer i belive most people wouldn't miss it if it wasn't there ... also since the said MP is all about loot so i expect it to get old pretty fast
Probably is a experiment too since DA:I combat is so MMOish ... the next step if multiplayer would be liked is to go back to the complete MMO idea and destroy what the franchise was liked for completely

No interest in multi-player but i'm resigned to a grudging acceptance of its presence for those that desire it as long as it has zero effect/presence on the single player element. After the underhand way it was handled in ME3 i'm retaining an element of nervousness but holding onto faith that Dragon Age won't go down that route. Long-term my fears remain whether future games will carry on being welcoming for those with no interest in MP.

It's a pity. ME3 was definitely a worse game for having Multiplayer, and I suspect that DA:I will be the same.
It is similar to the MMO thing I think. I would love to be a part of an immersive on-line fantasy world and now and again try an MMO to see if I like it. But the experience is inevitably ruined by all the other players jumping about like maniacs, making an arse of themselves, spamming the chat, queuing to kill bosses and generally ruining my immersion.
So no thanks - give me a single player RPG any day.

I'd argue that multiplayer/coop has influenced the gameplay ive seen, it has a very MOBA look to it, but i'm still looking forward to the game, i'll play the same amount of online as i played of ME3..thats zero

I didn't, but I remember seeing co-op being requested quite a bit.

Though the argument is long-dead (sadly), I had to chime in for my support for the OP. Also, Baldur's Gate MP and DA MP aren't nearly the same thing. BG was co-op'ing the primary story - all the resources and game space went into that main game. DA MP are resources and space going into something separate from the main game. In that respect, I find it hard to think that a majority or any sizeable minority of DA fans wanted that. Of all the lessons to take from Skyrim, you would think that a single-player (or at most co-op) RPG is commercially viable. Oh well.

Asking the fans what they want for a game is not a good way to make one unless you pick and choose .
I'm excited for having Multiplayer for something fun to do after my 100 hours + doing the story.
They were made by separate teams with separate budgets (within Edmonton) so the money allocated to developing Multiplayer wouldn't have gone to single player if they hadnt done it. They would have had the same budget.

Good question
And no, that's not the same situation as with the Origins or even TES:O
Back then Dragon Age was just beginning, the concept was new and vague
TES:O is not an end to single-player TES games
Now, after DA:O and even DA2 the Dragon Age series has been established as one of the rare incredible single-player story/characters-driven RPGs. Whose "brilliant" idea was to even consider turning it into MMORPG?
I like MMORPG but it's just not what Dragon age or Mass effect would be good as

After reading an article today which mentions how DA:I was originally planned as a multiplayer only game, and reading more and more about how the first DLC is going to be for multiplayer, I have to wonder.... Who the hell ever asked for multi player Dragon Age?
It's a single player game, which was built on single player fans. I hate multiplayer games. People generally completely ruin the immersion and fun of these games. Why make such epic companions if youre going to make us meet other players?
I played Neverwinter nights and never touched their multiplayer. Who honestly want this kind of thing?
Dragon Age Inquisition, as we know it, was not "originally planned" as a multiplayer only game. That article's headline is an inaccurate oversimplification. They essentially had a MP only prototype in the works that was repurposed into DA:I once it was decided that DA:I would indeed be the next Dragon Age installment. This particular game was never in any danger of being MP only.
I think it would be more accurate to say this has so far been a RPG which happened to be SP, which was built for Dragon Age fans, many of which have stated an interest in a multiplayer Dragon Age experience. Just because you opt to inflate the importance of your own viewpoint and ignore the viewpoint of others doesn't mean they don't exist. I, for one, thought it would be great to play these games with my family and friends since my first DA:O playthrough.
As for the first DLC being MP, that's not Bioware prioritizing MP in any way, it just happens that making a few new characters and levels is a bit faster and requires less people than a whole story-driven campaign add on. Besides, I'm pretty sure they have enough devs in that studio to work on both at the same time.

I'm actually happy Bioware put in MP...I mean, look.
We are getting a giant SP..a vast one...and on top of that they are adding MP.

1- Baldur's Gate had multiplayer from the start. So MP in RPGs is hardly new.
2- DA was planned to have multiplayer at first. So MP in Dragon Age is not a new heretical concept.
3- DAI was NOT PLANNED as a multiplayer game from the start. Some of the platform and techonology USED in DAI was from a multiplayer only project, which was CANCELED. The notion that DAI was a multiplayer game at first is FALSE.
4- DAI's multiplayer is ENTIRELY SEPARATE from the single player game, even more so than Mass Effect 3 (which was very much separate).
5- Lots of people love multiplayer. It makes sense for it to be incorporated in some way.
6- Relax. Get your facts straight. Don't believe every single rumour you hear, and read whole articles before jumping to conclusions. It was never, ever said, anywhere, that somehow you'd "meet other players" while playing DAI. This isn't Watchdogs, and there's no way other players will enter your game.

Just because you're not interested in an aspect of the game, doesn't mean that it's a "shoe in" and that the resources could have been used elsewhere.
If anything, that ignores the basics of project management. Multiplayer was not added in at the last minute on a whim, using up spare development time that could have been used elsewhere. There was a whole TEAM that did the MP content, and that content was implemented based on an expected return on investment: they're planning to make money from MP through micro-transactions, not through the box sales.
Remember, you're still getting a full 100+ hours single player RPG. The Multiplayer module did not somehow take resources away from single player. Rather, resources were ADDED to the project in order to deliver a module which would generate its own revenue stream.

Assuming that the games development budget would have been exactly the same without multiplayer. Different teams, parrallel development. Independant budgets.
Exactly. In reality, it goes something like this:
Company asks publisher for 100$ to make DAI as a single player game
Then, company decides it can implement multiplayer into the game, references the larger user base and extra revenue as reasons to approve it. Publisher approves, and gives an extra 50$ for multiplayer development.
Basically, budget is not a restriction. Therefore, a game's scope is not reduced or scaled back just because they add MP. Same can be said for the development time.
