You didnt have to play a lick of ME3 multiplayer to get the best ending, if you did everything though(as long as you played ME1 and 2).
I thought that was what Bioware claimed and that got falsified by players.

Multiplayer is a big thing to the general public. For every single game that I get, my dad asks me. "Multiplayer?" and if I say no, he just says, "Well then it's ****." I've seen this opinion widely too lately. If a game lacks multiplayer, it does not warrant the 60$ price, and overall most "casual" gamers favor multiplayer experiences.
That really depends on what you're interested in when selecting and playing a game. If your priority is "Story" I very much doubt you'd favor multiplayer on your list of gaming must-haves.
EDIT - @Meltemph - The max war assets you could get with the vanilla game was around 4000, I believe, and 5000 was required for the "Shepard Lives" ending. This was not possible without multiplayer until it was patched. Bioware tried to explain that it was intended as an Easter Egg versus an ending, but when this is the only in-game indication that Shepard is anything but dead....that is a bit more than an Easter Egg.

I enjoyed ME3's multiplayer so I am pleased to see a similar mode in this game.

Dont remember that ever getting falsified, with the caveat that you transferred your saves over. I know you couldnt do it without the saves, though.

When it came out it was bugged and you did have to play the multiplayer game in order to see the body take a breath. They did fix it eventually, when they found out about it. I had played all games and had more than enough esm to get the breath but didn't. Once it was fixed I saw it, was not impressed and managed to play 3 games before quiting for a few years until the mod came out.
I don't play on line games with other people. I play The Old Republic as a single player game. I don't mind that they have an on line separate game but I will pitch a fit if something goes wrong and it effects my single player game. NWN had one and I didn't realize it for years, that is what I'm hoping for.
Who the hell ever asked for multi player Dragon Age?

As such, the highest obtainable War Assets score is approximately 7500. If the multiplayer mode is not played, the player will only be able to acquire ~3750 EMS, which is less than the ~4000 EMS necessary to experience all possible endings.

They lowered the ~4000 EMS requirement eventually, but before that there was no way to get enough EMS by single player alone.
Fardreamer, take a deep breath and just read the nice comments here. Things will be all right!
Didn't ask for it, but I spent all my rage on it being included in ME3, then played it for the EMS and found myself really enjoying it (I sucked, but had fun). Kept playing it long after they fixed the requirement for it in single player, which was a huge mistake and something that should never have been required in the first place.
So assuming they aren't dumb enough to repeat that mistake, and I see no indication that they are, I'm going to play, suck at and enjoy DA:I multiplayer. But I didn't specifically ask for it.

True, you never needed to play multiplayer to get Control as an option.

Although the blame doesn't deserve to fall on MP any more than it falls on the war readiness App. While the single player development team did screw up in how they calculated EMS, you didn't have to play MP to access the best ending.

The multiplayer has nothing to do with singleplayer. It's an entirely seperate game mode for people that want to experience the gameplay with other people. They're not "making" you meet other players. Don't want to play the multiplayer? Don't play it. Simple as.
I don't play MP either and I have to admit, I was surprized this game has it. Somehow MP and this type of RPG seems like an odd match. I am quite sure there was no big public outcry to include MP. Probably just a decision to try to attract more players.
Based solely on my personal preferences.... I hope that dollars that could have gone into the SP game were not diverted to MP -

Are you sure you read the article right OP?
*Puts Hand up* I asked. see I know the CEO of EA and the Bioware exec producer and I said to them "Guys, you know what DA:I will need? Multiplayer" and things went on from there.

And no, I do like the idea of MP

But it does affect the single player, and its not truly seperate from MP. If it was seperate from the game, it could not be counted or advertised as one product in Australia.
Say wah? The multiplayer has no bearing on the single player... it can be marketed as one product because it is Dragon Age: Inquisition a game that includes a single player game and a multiplayer add-on. Are the Call of Duty games also sold as separate products in Australia? Because that MP has no effect on the single player either... what about Mass Effect 3? Same situation.
I didn't but I'm glad they added it. I love ME series and was thrilled when they added MP. I am hoping DA:I MP is as fun.
Most every big budget game now has a multiplayer as well as singleplayer. Should just think of it like a standard now.
I never ask for multi-player, but have in the past taken advantage of it when available.
I don't mind a separate multiplayer mode, however, it is disappointing that MP has effected the SP development. Yes... it has. You will never convince me that 8 ability slot limit and removed auto-attack were not implemented as they are in order to produce some sort of parity between the two modes. Thus, SP design decisions were clearly affected by the inclusion of a MP mode.
No matter how good DA:I might be (and I do hope it is truly good), it will still never be as good as it could have been if those features had been left in.
I did, you can hate me for all your woes.
