So, how is it that Varric is in DA:I?

 

Wasn't he left as some prisoner or something at the end of DA2?  Did Cass just let him go and he decided to just follow her around because they're best buds now?  Did he just happen to walk by when Cass found the PC and said "Hey I'll help you guys" and Cass said "Fine, love to have you".  I mean seriously though, does anyone know how or why he is even in the game?  Was there some special role he had in DA2 that makes him just perfectly fit into the story in DA:I?

 

Just wondering if anyone knows a logical reason for it yet?

I'm sure if you've actually played DA2 'till the end you'll notice Cass giving him permission to go until circumstances of Inquisition.

He's in Inquisition because BioWare feels there's more to be told about Varric, which is true because there wasn't enough elaboration on his character as far I recall.

It's the same reason why a character like Isabela ended up becoming a party member in DA2, because the writers liked the character and wanted to do something more with her.
