I'm an Egyptian goddess and you're some kind of eldritch abomination.
I think of myself as more of a supervillain. I stroke my whiskers with a tentacle while I write my evil monologues ![]()

Socialiser - Conqueror
"You like hanging around with people you trust and helping people as well as defeating impossibly difficult foes, struggling until you eventually achieve victory, and beating other players."
Seems like a bit of a limited questionaire to establish that tbh.

Please do! Also the company has been around since 1999.
Took a quick break and glanced on a few academic databases and couldn't find anything. Didn't dig too deep, though. Searched both "gamer class" and "demographic game design" (their model) and didn't find any results on this study. Maybe it fizzled out because they didn't get any interesting findings? Or maybe it got published under a different framing? Or maybe I just needed to dig deeper.....?

The hero arrives in your lair to confront you. You turn to face him in you swiveling chair. In your lap lies a well dressed but folically challenged human with a monicle whom you are petting.

Yeah. kinda weird that they are still taking results. Either they are doing that to get their name out there or they paid to keep the site up for a while or they haven't completed the study yet. It very well could be a different name than they are advertising. Did you try just searching International Hobo? I assume you're on a research platform of journals, articles and/or any sort of academia database or something like that?

Yeah, I know. I do research, so I understand. I also do mixed methodology, so I get both qualitative and quantitative research methodology. You are describing quantitative research. Validity looks different in qualitative research. It's not about statistical analysis. I'm not convinced that that's what they are going for, but I admit I haven't read their description or goals yet. If they are just looking to categorize people based on survey responses (which would have to have been vetted and normed, of course), then do case studies on a few individuals, they don't need to worry about validity because it's not about finding generalizable results. More of a, "We want to know what BLANK gamers think about BLANK topic, so we are identifying a few and then discussing BLANK topic with them. It tells us what some of them think and allows us to generate ideas for further examination at a later date."
I missed the piece where it was dated from four years ago. If so, then I would hope that had moved beyond data collection by now. I'll have to play around on Ebsco and PsychInfo and see if I can find any results. If I find it, I'll come back and post it.
yeah, I was talking specifically about quantitative methodology. Funny I am doing a research paper for my masters using quantitative so I am in that mode of thinking.
Qualitative to me is just another beast entirely but they make for great reads for the stories. I agree though, there should have been (and maybe there was) some interviews to help set up this questionnaire but I doubt it.
For me doing a quantitative study is "tidier" for lack of a better term. I am not planning on adding a last open question bit because I am afraid of crazy wacky responses that I will have to account for and give a value/factor to it.
For this study, I have no idea what they are going for. So any info you come up with would sate my curiosity. Also Kudos to you for doing mixed methodology. It sounds like hell to me. ![]()

that sucks. The problem is, is that more notable journals pay these search sites money to have a better yield when searched. Also, there is a good chance they did not publish results as a journal. It may just be an article somewhere on some website. If that's the case, then this study is hardly scientific. Or worse it is just like those facebook tests ![]()

Cool survey. I'm also an achiever-mastermind. My weakness is being tasked to perform under pressure. One thing I also don't like in real life. But it also says I don't care about hurting other player their feelings, which isn't true.
