*cough*
This makes total sense to me, but is it said anywhere in the game or is this WoG/extrapolation? Not that I'm saying it's less valid if it is, but I'm just curious.

He doesn't actively take sides like most of the other companions, though. He really doesn't care that much about the conflict.
As i said varic was rather on hawke side but in the end he prefered side with templars than mages.
so he is more toward templars than mages.
Source?
Last straw pretty much before battle in circle.
oh thats good now i feel less like everbody will leave over x decision
Indeed.
I imagine if you look at the decisions Varric gains rivalry points for in DAII, you could get a pretty good idea of what'll ****** him off in this one.
oh i got varric locked down its the rest of team inquisition i worry aboutIndeed.

Maybe it's when you decide to remove bianca from varric and give him some other weapon. You then proceed to dscard bianca.

Hold on. We talk about this all the time, so I know I have the source somewhere. As for them dying from other means, even the Templar codex entry talks about how lyrium withdrawal causes dementia.
Can we unequip Bianca and give Bianca to idk, Cole or Sera?
I think that should be an auto-disapproval.
(guess she's restricted to him though, tragically)
query: does dementia kill? I thought it just caused psychosisHold on. We talk about this all the time, so I know I have the source somewhere. As for them dying from other means, even the Templar codex entry talks about how lyrium withdrawal causes dementia.
It deteriorates the brain. By the late stages eating without a tube becomes damn near impossible. I'm guessing in a medieval setting it's certain death.

He doesn't say one thing any way or the other.
oh thank you for the knowledge. Now i feel less of a buffon XDIt deteriorates the brain. By the late stages eating without a tube becomes damn near impossible. I'm guessing in a medieval setting it's certain death.
If you commit too much evil actions or kill too many civilians.
varric is the Good Neutral type character so he favors players that aim to defend civilians and light heart actions (anything that doesn't involve brutally punishing or killing someone.)
He doesn't say one thing any way or the other.
They're talking about the lines of dialogue quoted twice before in the thread. Varric never tells you what to do, but by his reactions, you can see which one he's more comfortable with.
See, that's not Varric supporting the Templars. That's Varric supporting Kirkwall. Komandor is trying to make it sound like Varric agrees with the Templars in anything besides the most base ideals.
isnt that a good thing? Templar often do do good work(as much i disagree with their methods)See, that's not Varric supporting the Templars. That's Varric supporting Kirkwall. Komandor is trying to make it sound like Varric agrees with the Templars in anything besides the most base ideals.
Kirkwall's Templars hardly do good work.
I'm glad to see that he actually has a breaking point in this game. From the looks of it.
idk i did a nuetral playthrough this week and now that im not roleplaying.. aside from alrik, karras, thrask and merdeth they seemed reasonable. If over cautious and made decent points.Kirkwall's Templars hardly do good work.
Four words:
"Chest hair is overrated."
Varric: I am angry Inquisitor!
Inquisitor: Well, I "will" miss that glorious alpaca on your chest... but seeing as I already have a jester *kicks Adrian down the steps* I'll survive.

OH yeah, okay, gotcha. Yeah Varric definitely wouldn't consider himself an ideological supporter of the templars, he just liked that under the templars (before things went to hell), it was relatively safe in the city. In the "freedom vs security" spectrum that DA2 is supposed to explore, he's in the middle, but security leaning. But I do think one could make the case that it effectively does make him "on the side" of the Templars. That would be way more of an interesting discussion to have if if Kirkwall hadn't turned into a comically black and black EVERRRBUDY SUCCCKSS situation.
Now that I think about it, the way the mage/templar situation ends up in DA2 is more of a caricature of how a moderate would describe two "extremist" groups fighting than a nuanced look at how the divide between the two would influence people's behavior. Which is funny since it is being narrated by a moderate, but I highly doubt that's the way it's supposed to be read.

Some interesting discussion here as far as Varric's relationship with Hawke goes.
I look at it this way. Varric loses a sibling to the Idol. Hawke loses a sibling to the Taint or the Chantry. But they both got a best friend out of the deal. DA2 is very much a story about family.

Kirkwall's Templars hardly do good work.
As a whole, I would agree. Aside from doing little to quell the frustrations of both the city guard and the citizens, the Knight-Commander was essentially usurping the ruling position over the city rather than allowing someone to take the Viscount's place.
It doesn't help that the Templars were also doing other drastic things, like sending a squad to hunt down Feynriel and torture a Dalish hunter for answers.
