out of curiosity, why don't you like Blackwall and Cole?

(Tiers themselves are in no specific order)

 

Top:

Iron Bull ((Seems smart and witty for his seemingly "brute" nature
Solas ((Wise and pragmatic
Varric ((Down to earth, dont take himself too seriously. Witty. Loyal.
 

Middle:

 

Blackwall ((Dont know much about him, but seem resourceful and independent
Cassandra ((Like her in every other aspect, but she loses major points for being a religious fanatic
Dorian ((Wouldve been Top 1, but disdains the mighty imperium, rejects his superior people, and want to change what is perfection

Bottom:

Sera (( Any character that thinks "saving the little people" is better, falls under the evil "Not a utilitarian moral philosopher" 
Cole (( Sorry to say but Cole bores me greatly, even having read his role in the novel he comes across as a bore-fest
Vivienne (( There can only be one. Arrogance is my domain. Respect her, but dislike her as a competitor

out of curiosity, why don't you like Blackwall and Cole?

 

Actually, Cole sounds pretty fascinating and I am very interested, it's just that Inquisitors that I am role-playing to have similar experiences and feelings as my own will not accept him. After "Justice"-nonsense in DA:A and DA2, I am wary of Fade spirits. But when I do play as a character willing to take a chance on him, he'll be in my party often, to make up for all the games where he isn't.

 

I tend to like grizzled vets, but Blackwall comes across as someone who believes in doing good as a soldier. I believe there is no good in war and that people who fight it cannot expect as much. Also, I am a Loghain guy, whom Blackwall was apparently very vocally opposed to. We'll see whether or not our ideologies can be reconciled. Not counting on it.

In no particular order, my favorites would be Cassandra, Blackwall, and Iron Bull. My least favorites would be Vivienne and Cole.

Came up with that off the top of my head going off what little I know about them and seen of them. While I disagree with Vivienne's views and cautious of her, Blackwall is at the bottom because I haven't seen or heard anything about him that makes him sound the least bit interesting. Actually I don't even know what he sounds like. Besides those two, I have no real issues with any of these characters.

Dorian - He seems the most cheeky of all the companions so far, reminds me of Alistair (he was my favorite in DA:O).

Cole - He seems the most mysterious of the companions and his backstory intrigues me.

Cassandra - Seems like a ogod front line tank for the party and a rough yet romantic, reminds me a bit of Morrigan (complicated at first until you get to know her).

 

Least favorite? Vivienne, she seems a bit uptight and posh, just not the type of character I tend to like but you never know until you play the game, she could end up being one of my favorite.

Cullen: He truely is one of the unofficial DA mascotts.

Sera: Looks like she might be pretty awsome.

Varric: So funny and he truely has only two agendas staying wealthy and alive....that makes me smile.

 

My least favorite so far would have to be the Iron bull that guy creeps me out. If this were real life I would run off screaming into the night before I even knew that he was about. That might change after release though.

Favorites:

 

Blackwall. I just love that we're getting a more grizzled, world-weary mentor like character, and one who happens to be an LI as well. He has the strong protector vibe about him, but from what we've seen he has a sense of humor and a bit of a pragmatic streak as well, judging by World of Thedas. Dragon Age's male love interests have never appealed to me much beforehand, but Blackwall has given me hope. 

 

Varric. Little explanation needed, he's still Varric. 

 

Cassandra. She intrigued me all the way back in DA2, and now I can't wait to see her fleshed out.

 

Couldn't say my least favorite.

I don't dislike any of the other companions but if I had to say Cole thus far has been the only companion who has not interest me.

Least favourite...I guess Blackwall since I find him to be the least interesting. That said, I may end up changing my mind on this and/or on my favourite companions once I've actually played the game. :-)

Varric, Blackwall and Solas all seem interesting. As for least favorite I'd say IB because he seems poorly cast, or Sera because her accent is so over the top it's almost a caricature. 

 

It's hard to say considering we know so little about most of them. BW has remained uncharacteristically tight lipped about DA:I, they've not said much on the plot and characters other than the basics. Blackwall could easily end up being Thane 2.0, if so he won't have much to offer because I've already had Thane in my party. Generally speaking BW suffers from familiarity. In that, many of the characters are similar to many old characters, or mash ups of two of them. They have a mold they rarely deviate from. That being said, DA:I does seem to have a few unique characters in the bunch, that's not to say I think they'll break archetypal molds and create more genuine real feeling characters. Just that they won't be using the same archetypes as usual.

 

Not that archetypes are necessarily bad, it's just they're inherently familiar and generally don't have a huge amount of depth.

I didn't watch any livestreams and trailers (only the first one and Enemies of Thedas), read little to none info about companions (apart from forums, skip all spoilers), so right now my top is mostly based on their appearance:

 

1) Cassandra

2) Iron Bull

3) Sera

 

and always soft spot for Varric.

 

Not sure about least favorite, probably Solas.

Cassandra, Cole, and Solas for me. I like everyone else as well but so far Sera hasn't really piqued my interest too much. This'll obviously change when I play the game.

My least favourite is Iron Bull. In my opinion, he just doesn't have anything going for him (Appearance, voice, etc...).

Also I love Leli, Josie and Scout Harding - but since they aren't companions I couldn't vote for them

3.) Varric (only cause he's not LI - since he doesn't want to love me he will stay in the tavern. Otherwise he would have been in the favorite group)

 

I still don't know how I feel about Blackwall and Solas - for now I think I might like Blackwall and dislike Solas.
