What's this about a companion betraying the Inquisitor?

it might have gotten started by the concept art of the inquisitor and the companions at the war table, because it looked like the last supper, so one of them is judas :P i think it was solas who was in his spot. honestly though, if anyone is gonna betray the inquisition i imagine its gonna be vivienne since she is "the ambition", but it could be Iron Bull since he is Qunari (Qunari the religion, not the race.) anyways, the rumor could have started from the inquisition last supper art bioware released.

I believe it may be Vivienne as well (I don't like her anyway). However The Last Supper themed art was only part of it, after it was released one of the devs implied that the positions of the Companions may give you a hint as to what they do during the game, and considering what Judas did is the only thing people could think of that might be relevant to DA:I people kept speculating that one of them might betray us.

I'm not really paranoid about the whole possible betrayal thing. As long as its not my LI and no one like a family member dies then I don't care enough to kill the guilty party.

Every time I think about or see a betrayal in an RPG, I feel like I can always see it coming from a mile away.

Except the first time with...

Spoiler

This was exactly what came into my mind.

I think it's because of the Last Supper-esque scene with the Inquisition we've seen in a few trailers here and there, and how a companion will betray the Inquisitor, similar to how the follower Judas betrayed Jesus Christ. (Cole or Solas are in the spot of Judas in the picture).

I'm gonna laugh if it turns out that Vivienne actually doesn't have an agenda and is the most trusted of them all.

Judas is 3 positions away from Jesus Christ, which is where Cole is standing and Solas is...sorta standing. Varric is where Andreas/Andrew is in the Last Supper, not Judas.

The Last Supper positioning might be deceptively complex as a point of comparison, since Judas is two seats from Christ with Peter in the third, but since Peter leans his head past Judas and closer to where Christ sits, it kind of makes Judas look like he is in the third seat. Since our companions aren't in the same positions, it could be either Solas or Cole that is in Judas's position. I'd certainly be surprised if Cole betrayed me. Maybe there are a few possibilities depending on the actions we take.

What are you talking about? Who the hell knows what the hell "Sela Petrae" is and what "Drakestone" does? And who associates these with bombs?

According to the wiki: Sela petrae is a crystal powder formed from concentrated manure and urine. Drakestone is a yellowish rock found in mines and dragon lairs.

And who associates these with bombs?

By their describtion they sound like saltpeter and sulphur, two ingredients that can easily make a bomb.

I cant find the source for this, so dont take my word for it, but i remember in an interview either Mark Darrah or Mike Laidlaw saying you cold end the game with just 1 companion (cause u cant shake him away no matter ur decisions) and i have an idea he mentioned Cole....

If i remember correctly and this is true, i guess the whole Cole in Judas position is just farfetched..

Since i cant find where i read this, i could be totally wrong. We will have to wait and see. Just 2 more weeks now.

Or maybe.....

Maybe Cole is the only one that you cant shake away because from the first moment he joins the Inquisition he is planning on betraying it, and you only find out in the end of the game, so he will never leave the Inquisition no matter how much he hates you because his endgame is to betray you at the end of the story... I mean Cole has the strongest tie to the fade of all your companions, he could just be an Elder One minion? pff too much speculation, too much Coleception... The wait is hard :(

But noone in DA universe knows it!  Which is hilarious.  Gunpowder is only known to Qunari.  Dwarven explosives are horribly unstable and unsafe.  Anders effectively comes up with recipe for gunpowder on his own.  He is now the most wanted man by Templars, Mages, Qunari, dwarves, Wardens and the rest of (somewhat) civilized Thedas.

It's completely baseless and idiotic speculation. There's no evidence whatsoever to a betrayal occurring at all.

Not true, there was a thread that quoted... Allan, was it, mentioning companion betrayal

Cole will leave you if you let enough people die or aren't a good person.

I would. Sela Petrae reminded me of potassium nitrate, which can be found in fertilizer and gunpowder. And I'm also thinking Drakestone could be a limestone-esque rock, since limestone could be used to (basically) amplify an already explosive compound, though I don't think limestone alone is an explosive compound.

In other words, Anders made one hell of a dirty bomb.

Any decent inquisitor will take the approach of "they are all heretics".

People were talking about a betrayer long before that post. They were comparing the shot of all the Inquisition around the War Table to the Last Supper.

Because the internet is full of people who have a lot time on their hands to think about things.

We're all still traumatized by Anders. Better to assume everyone's out to get us so we won't be surprised. :P

That was a betrayal? Pffft I was only annoyed because he got to kill the Grand Cleric before I did.

It kind of reads like if you get to the end with one companion, it's still possible to make the kinds of decisions that would get even that companion to betray you.

I wonder if that's the "demons win" ending?

Hopefully if there IS a betrayal, it won't come out of the blue. I can accept a character leaving because I'm a jerk to them, I just don't want it to be like "Yeah, you're great, but I had this previous deal, sooooo..."

It's gonna be a mage. You just can't trust them. They'd all be made tranquil if it was up to me.
