I'll play with all of them. I enjoy switching things up when I play the DAO games.

Once everyone is unlocked I will have 3 mainstays but will temporarily use everyone when recruiting them.  My initial run will consist of my Qunari Mage, a tank, melee DPS, and ranged DPS.  It will be a balanced party initially.  Whoever I don't main in the first play through will be given a shot in subsequent campaigns.

 

And this is my first post, so nice to meet everyone!!

I imagine I'll probably use Varric and Cassandra somewhat more than the other companions, but I'll use everyone a decent amount.

I will use only 3 through the whole game.

I like to do a lot of rotating, to get as much banter as possible. Plus, different companions bring different skills, so mixing it up makes combat interesting.

 

That's not to say it's all perfectly balanced. Some will get more playing time than others, especially my LI. Sleeping with the boss has its perks.

First playthrough? Yes. In doing that, it let's me know who I'd use on my following playthroughs. The one's that I don't like will stay behind forever.

First times playing I always like to switch it up . Eventually after I've played more than a few times I will have favorites I stick to.

My main will be 

Blackwall

Iron Bull 

Varric or Cole (havent decided)

But I plan on switching others in if I feel I'll get something special from a companion in a certain quest.

I will have mains/favorites but I will always switch them from time to time in every playthrough. It gets a little too boring and monotonous for me even with my favorite characters around if its for hours and hours. Plus I really love seeing how different characters react and talk to each other, that's one of my favorite parts of these games, so...

(Except in ME1, Ashley was twiddling her thumbs. Also Vega in ME3 ended up twiddling his thumbs. But in DA:O and DA2, everyone had a chance to shine.)

Yeah, I will eventually swap everyone out. I feel weird if people are joining my party, and I never use them. I don't know if it's my curiosity, or the fact that my... deep immersion into the game won't allow me? Sounds weird, but I keep tabs on all party members.

Yeah I will use them all but Iron Bull, Sera and Dorian will be my main party, and I won't be using Blackwall, Cole and Solas as much as the others.

Rouge (Varric). Cole and Sera don't interest me and Varric is much better voiced.

Mage (This could be any of the 3 between Viv, Dorian, Solas)

Mage (Myself & any of the remaining 3)

Warrior (Blackwall or Cassandra or Myself) Blackwall is only there because he is a Grey Warden and Cassandra to get humoured by Varric. Iron Bull Nope.

 

This way I can use all of cross party combo spells.

I've got three different playthroughs set up that will use every companion.

 

Male Human Rogue - Iron Bull, Sera, Dorian 

Male Dalish Warrior -  Blackwall, Cole, Solas

Female Qunari Mage - Cassandra, Varric, Vivienne

 

Other playthroughs will be randomized but probably be 

Female Dwarf Rogue - Blackwall, Cassandra, Dorian

Male Qunari Warrior - Varric, Solas, Sera

Female Dalish Mage - Iron Bull, Cole, Vivienne
