The ending of 3 doesn't affect this decision for me (At least not anymore).

But purely based off what I've seen and heard so far about the new Mass Effect, nope I wont be pre-ordering.

I'd like to emphasise my decision is probably going to change repeatedly since it's so early.

Reasoning: I was happy with ME 3's approach to planetary exploration. As in, if there's a mission to be had on a planet, I'll take it and that's the chance to wow me with planet. If there's no mission for the planet, i'm not too interested in exploring it. This is my opinion on any non-major planet.

As I've stated before, I see two roads for Bioware to go down:

1. Extensive planetary exploration for a handful of planets. It's all beautifully done and detailed, with no waste of space/repetitive things.

2. Planetary exploration across many planets, will probably be a lot of repetitive things, lots of areas that mean nothing, kind of like ME1.

I just don't see any feasible way for them to do planetary exploration for many planets with the detail they want, it would be awesome if they did though!

I went off on a tangent there, but basically, I'm not interested in exploring via the Mako, it makes the game lose the feeling of a universe full of possibilities. That's why at this stage I'm not preordering.

DA:I alone might last long enough until ME4 comes out.

Now I will admit I have not even touch that game yet at all I might have to go out and get it because I just finished my playing the ME series again.

also I have put a lot of time into the ME Series and I really do enjoy it so I will admit I am going to pre order the new ME game

JEBUS F**K NO!

I haven't spent a dime on BioWare or an EA game since the EC.

Who would pre-order anything these days, by the way?  Heard of Destiny and what happened with that game?

Yeah. People saw gameplay videos and still went: "oh this isn't a shooter, it's a true RPG with some MMO features"

Some people just set themselves up for disappointment, and then blame it on the 'big, bad companies'.

And I can't help but laugh when they whine about 'grinding'. Like they've never played an MMO before.

Weell...that's what BOONGIE said, it isn't like consumers just watched gameplay videos and made up that it wasn't an MMO.  Bungie fed them that big fat lie.

And I don't mind people complaining about grinding because grinding in ANY game is the boringest most boring thing ever!  And should really be in no game, including MMOs.  Consumers have just come to accept that low standard called 'gaming.'

Having said all that, Destiny's failure is epic, Psychevore!  And yet some people defend it like it is the best game ever.  Sound familiar?

See my posts in the Mass Effect vs Destiny thread for my opinion on that. Sounds like bungie got trumped by Ubisoft though tbh. $100 extra to unlock upgrades and weapons? Ew!

And that's exactly where I facepalm: everybody knows PR talk is a lie, meant to make you buy things. Yet people get sooo upset and angry when it turns out to be a lie, like it never happened before.

I hate how everyone is still butt-hurt at the ME3 ending, and how just because of that one teeny tiny little thing, they will never forgive Biovar and will never get another Mass Effect game again. It's like they forgot about the other 95% of the game.

Okay back to topic; I don't pre-order games but I will definetely buy it.

I am still mad.
I will always be mad.
On my deathbed I will still be mad.
When the seas heat up and the world descends into global catastrophe I will still be mad.
In the afterlife, when I get to the gates of Heaven, St. Peter and his angels will ask me "Are you still mad about ME 3?" And my reply will be "Yes."
When the race of man is no more and the ruins of cities have crumbled into dust I will still be mad.
Ancient alien civilizations will find the smoldering, volcanic corpse of the Earth and decode the ancient secrets of the Internet and they will find this post and so my eternal anger will be brought forth into the far-flung reaches of outer space.
When the last tiny flash of heat in the universe dies and all fades away into entropy, my hatred will remain.

I've only pre-ordered two games in my life, Pokemon Colosseum, and ME3.  One got me unlimited access to an exclusive legendary pokemon (Jirachi) which my 12 year old self and friends all found awesome, the other got me some weapons that were quickly obsolete.  In short, if ME4 offers something exclusive, cool, and powerful like Jirachi as a pre-order bonus, I'll consider it, if it's just more useless guns, I'll pass.  I've never seen a game sold out in my area day one, I doubt ME4 will be the first, and I further doubt I'll be getting it day one.  I will almost certainly buy it come what may, but I would prefer that I know about any major disappointments before I commit to another 20+ hour play through.

The idea of a pre order in the age of digital distribution is just baffling.
The extras are basically just the company trying to entice you to depart with your (generally non refundable) money for a product you have no idea of the quality or value of.
I never have and never will pre order.

Those who preorder would had likely purchased the game as soon as they could anyway. People who care about the reviews of a game aren't typically the same people who preorder. So preordering is just a nice convenience for those people. Pay for it in advance so you don't have to worry about picking it up later. If you ordered it online (physical copy) they usually deliver it in the mail day 1 for even more convenience.

There are valid reasons not to preorder but that doesn't mean there are no reasons to preorder. Also, unrelated to preorders directly but there are still a lot of people out there who PREFER physical copies and don't do digital. I know a lot of people who prefer physical copy only because their internet connection is total **** and downloading a 50GB game is a week-long task. Not to mention the fact that a lot of people suffer ISP companies insane greedy schemes of bandwith caps which change you more to your bill if you go over their paltry limit.

If my ISP placed a data cap on me or was any slower than what it is I know I would shudder at the idea of going all digital. Some people have trouble watching youtube above 360p. Imagine the nightmare they'd face if they had to download every one of these new insanely big games. Hell, the Halo collection that came out recently had a 20GB patch. Games are getting larger and larger yet internet speeds are not. Infact, at least in America, the future of our internet is looking more and more grim each day and are likely going to get WORSE before they get better...

I understand the need for a physical copy. I don't understand how that transfers to shelling out £50 upfront for a product you have no idea of the quality of.

Actually, amazon doesn't charge you for a copy of the game until they ship the game to you, so you're not even paying for it early, really; you're just putting your name in for a copy and getting the pre-order bonuses, if any.

Like I said, a lot of those who preorder aren't concerned with that. They buy it based on the brand and interest in said brand. Why do you think devs put so much effort into hyping their games? If someone was going to pick up the game regardless then what does it matter if they secure their purchase in advance. They were going to purchase it one way or another because they want to play it. The kind of people who research reviews on products prior to purchase are not generally the ones who pre-order them, in my experience.

Coincidentally if games continue the trend of being digital then physical copies are going to start becoming more and more limited, providing more necessity to preordering. One day the physical copy may become 'rare' enough that preordering it is the only way to guarantee they can have it. Though I suspect thats still a ways off. Point is I think there will always be a place for preorder's on physical products.

Wal-Mart's website works the same way in my experience. My girl has preordered Skyrim Collectors Edition and a PS4 from gamestop and she only had to put 5 euro down on it. Imo that isn't a bad deal to insure your copy is reserved.

Yep, I've bought several games through amazon that way. Not charged a dime until I get that e-mail notice that the game has been shipped from them to me. I like it.

For the time being, No.

Simply because i know nothing about the storyline at this moment.

And i'm also a little skeptic about this game, not being made by the same BW studio anymore.

Instead it's the people that made the Omega-dlc,.. it still needs patching.

If by "pre-order" you mean wait until the impressions from early releases come in a few days before the official release, yes.

Because there hasn't been an ME game in a while, the folks posting here at this point in time are probably going to incline toward toward the hardcore ME fanatic side of the spectrum.  So yeah, most of them will pre-order.

The ME series is my fav vid game of all time - excepting that last 15 minutes of fiasco that culminated the trilogy.  Having said that, I'm just here by accident checking out the state of DA:I.  But I CLEARLY remember my feeling at the end of the ME3 that I would never pre-order another ME title.  Nothing has changed for me, so no way will I be pre-ordering.  I'll only purchase if I learn that the story isn't fubar, or the gameplay is so extraordinary as to out-weigh the fubar.

I understand the the lead developer of ME has been replaced for ME4.  This is a positive development in my eyes and gives me more hope that ME4 will become something wonderful and fun.

I still have yet to experience such a ******-poor ending to an epic narrative in any media (games, film, novels, comics...w/e) that was the fiasco of ME3.

Let's hope DA:I is kick-ass.  I've always rooted for Bioware.
