Pre-oder? No, I don't do that.

Buy at launch? Most likely.

Except  if it somehow ends up being multiplayer only game where I'd have to experience almost all the content in groups of four or more people accompanied by constant "skip pls" from the other player in every conversation or cutscene. God damm you SWTOR-endgame (Class stories were decent to great though).

Interesting article Von and basically how I feel aabout everything bar Mass Effect atm as I said earlier i have never preordered in my life but it would take for some seriously bad news for me not to this time. It costs about the same price as a FDP anyway here depending on how I go about it so there's no real loss in it for me.

I understand the the lead developer of ME has been replaced for ME4.  This is a positive development in my eyes and gives me more hope that ME4 will become something wonderful and fun.

I'm not sure. The problem here is that the 'lead developer' aka Casey Hudson, did leave Bioware. However, the Lead Writer, Mac Walters, the guy who was responsible for much of the startrekky crap and turning both EDI and the Geth into some kind of Pinnochio wannabes, has been promoted. First to 'Creative Director' and now to the position that Casey Hudson used to hold.

I do not expect much from a guy who can't keep the lore of the Mass Effect series straight in his own writing on the Mass Effect comic books.

Oh come on. I said... "Oh I'll never pre-order another Bioware game again....."

...... sees trailers for Dragon Age Inquisition..... sees bonus pre-order items with Deluxe Edition..... pre-orders.

I'm sure it will be the same for the next Mass Effect because I know I won't be pre-ordering that thing.

Yeah, I'll pre-order the game as soon as possible. I loved everyone of the Mass Effect games, as well as all the other games BioWare create. If there was an automatic pre-order button, it would always be on for BioWares games.

So far I'm resisting the temptation, although my waiting benchmarks for getting the game are falling lower and lower. Although I guess it's too late to pre-order.

But boy, is that game sure pretty looking.

I've played about 30 hours now and its not bad. I know it looks better on the ps4/Xone/pc, but I'm on the ps3, so its ok. I like the characters. Cassandra is a bada**. I haven't even got skyhold yet. Not sure when I will.

I'm still in the hinterlands (because I literally don't want to leave yet) and My Qunari looks incredible btw I seriously can't believe how much detail I could put into his facial features. Definitely impressed with Bioware atm and salivating for ME:N.

I love Mass Effect series but I will only pre-order if I know that the next game is something special, bug-free before release and worth playing.

I dissaprove the current marketing of the company that promises you some in-game items and a DLC (that you shouldn't have to pay for) if you give the extra 20 euros for the deluxe edition.

If I am not happy with Mass Effect 4 release, I will play other games and wait for a year to buy it through an offer...

I don't pre-order games, it's turning into a toxic culture. So it wouldn't be any different here, and Bioware burned me with DA2 and ME3 - so I generally won't buy their games new. I think spending £40 on a new game that will inevitably have about 2 or 3 other incarnations with increasingly added DLC, is a bad move financially right now. I have enough self-restraint. DAI seems to be a huge step in the right direction for Bioware though - might pick it up in the new year sometime, when the price has lowered.

Considering my current future game rig planning and obsession with the first three games... yes, and the Collector's Edition. I would be more upset if they either decided that whatever new series was going to have alternating protagonists between games (part of Mass Effect's charm is the multi-game main character who you shape) for a fifth game, or they forced certain Mass Effect 3 points as your canon (if applicable).

I'd love to import for history codex entries at least- but with a face import code to use for at least any small shout outs and after watching my brother struggle with the Keep (he played through the first two games recently for his perfect world state and he is massively ticked at Inquisition right now) but got his story choices done, it would do at least between Mass Effect 3 and a new trilogy. Mass Effect's main character through games is really unique and I think that for a new trilogy, Bioware would absolutely kill the series if they forced people to switch every game and do the Keep/type thing without imports inside of a trilogy.

I think half the reason Mass Effect fans find the DLC so vital is because it served a purpose and by the third game, gave us more time with our main character/Shepard and we wanted that because we are so attached.

Mass Effect 4 is a pre-order as is a near mythical Fallout 4. I just hope they get past the whole survival/horde mode like in Mass Effect 3's multiplayer. Mass Effect is so layered and offers so many things you can do co-operatively, it seems a waste otherwise. But, I'm fairly selective game wise so it's not a big spend.

To be fair, though, for all DA2's flaws, it wasn't nearly as bad as ME3.  And it's ending didn't frak up the entire setting.

Of course, I still spoilered myself on the ending before buying.  Kinda sad that I have to do that now  :(

Probably not. Pre-ordering a game was usefull a few years ago when there was a risk of shortage of physical copies. Right now, with digital download, pre-ordering is unnecessary.
I will only pre-order the game if there's a proper collector edition. Something with an actual artbook (A4 at least), lithographs (A4 too, not postcard-like) and a nice replica. It's a pity that Mass Effect didin't have a great collector edition yet.

Problem with digital downloading is if you wind up hating the game you're stuck with it. I know I can get a 3 day window for returns from the used game store and past that I can make a trade for a different game if I miss the window. Then there's time spent downloading it. I live in Australia so internet speeds aren't what they are everywhere else.

Agree with you on collectors editions I would want something other than a shiny cover.

Origin has a refund option (which seems some people use for DA:I). Internet speed is a more important factor IMO

Best I can tell is origins refund had a 24hr window on it, anyone trading an RPG back in that time period has problems with the genre to begin with. But I get what you're saying, I like to trade once a game is a few years old anyway. Save for my absolute fav's that I restocked when I got robbed or didn't get taken.

Some crook out there really missed out on Command and Conquer games and Enchanted Arms.

DA2's flaws are this: repeated environments.

Story and characters? I think it's a great game. Combat is pretty easy to do and doesn't detract from the story. It's very immersive because it's not a "must save the world" story. Sure characters die. Some seem to die senselessly, but that's part of the type of story. DA2 is grittier than DAO. DAO was high fantasy. DA2 is built for rogues.

Well like I saw a few mention about not playing many games these days, I'm in the same boat. I remember a golden time when I could knock out a JRPG within a week or so. Now I log on to play a few matches of League of Legends here and there. As far as gaming sessions go and all that jazz, they are far and few in between so I reserve those gaming sessions for a few select titles these days. Those select titles are really Mass Effect and Dragon Age.

So if I'm only going to be buying one major release title a year... Then yea I'll preorder MEN and probably love the hell out of it.

Bioware has yet to release a game as broken and unplayable as BF4.
