You are probably right. With the Rubel collapsing, games must be dirt cheap compared to the rest of the world.

That's funny, considering that my national currency (UAH) collapsed even more. I paid nearly 30 EUR (exchange rate considering) for this game and got (woohoo!) English VO as an additional content. LOL. I know I have a choice - refund and not play it or stick to the Russian text through the game. Russian text in this kind of games nearly always sucks though. Not including games developed by Russian-speaking devs, obviously.

I would love some info on those third-party retailers, actually, because anywhere the English language download is for sale they also go "this version is only available for customers located in the US" when I try to buy it...

greenmangaming and amazon.uk are two mentioned in this very thread, they don't appear to limit their sales to the US. Mind you, I can only verify they work when buying from Poland, there might be some regional limitations for Russian customers I'm not aware of.

Can't you switch to English text when you change the language of Origin?

Also, does anyone know if you're subject to some sort of legal persecution if you buy the game from a different region using VPN?

Technically they can't prove anything. You were travelling and you've got a game. Or your uncle did. They do not prohibit PLAYING games outside the native region, so it's their problem, not ours. For now.

The very fact that this thread has not been taken out and none got banned is also a good sign.

Also - my guess is that this month Mexican Origin sales statistics is going to be really funny.

no. English Origin has Russian store, they tie it to the IP...which is a lame thing to do, yeah.

That's the most intriguing part - they are not. They are cheaper than the EU or US verions, sure, but not by that much. In fact, the Mexican version that many people here seem to have turned to costs exactly the same, yet it contains a number of languages and does not seem to limit the customer for no apparent reason. The version in question, on the other hand, contains ONE language. You have a choice between Polish and Russian during the installation, but once the game is actually playable even that meagre selection is gone.

This would not be such an issue if only the translation had been adequate. It is not. It's dull, lifeless and riddled with mistakes that betray either a disturbing lack of competence or a deplorable knowledge of the lore by those responsible for it. Often both. Compare that to a meticulously written and edited English texts, and the inferiority of the only version of the product available to many of us becomes obvious.

I have got a refund for my copy, but I am not going to make another purchase any time soon, unless the issue is resolved, of course. One should not be forced to bypass laws and bother with VPN simply to be able to enjoy a legally purchased product as it was intended to be experienced by its creators.

Technically, if it works anything like Steam, when you buy the game from certain region it's supposed to be tied to billing address in the same region. This verification (does the billing address match the IP?) happens at the payment stage. So if you indeed travel or it's your uncle getting it for you, they're subjected to the local taxes etc.

Dodging this (like ordering Mexican version through VPN but then switching at the last moment to different region and using payment/billing address of different region) is fairly easy to detect and can get your account a prompt ban.

Whether Origin uses similar policies is anyone's guess at this point, but I wouldn't be surprised if they did.

Games in ex-USSR region were always cheaper (well, at least in region-locking era of digital distribution), regardless of current national currencies exchange rates and existence of localization. For now, Steam solved this problem more or less adequately - games bought in many ex-USSR countries usually has all languages available but can be run only in those countries. Sadly, vendor-locked stores like Origin and Uplay is completely different story. :(

Nope. When I press "Download" through the Origin client, it basically suggests me to choose from 2 languages (Polish and Russian) right off the bat. Though I'm yet to find considerable difference in Russian and English version files.

Anyone with a valid international version: could you post/upload the contents of the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\BioWare\Dragon Age Inquisition" registry key (or wherever it is stored on 32-bit systems)? Maybe "Locale" isn't the only thing that needs to be changed. "Product GUID" looks kinda suspicious, too... I mean, if the localization info isn't stored in the game files, than it's either in the Origin client or in the registry. We could be missing something here...

until we get an official response on this matter 24 hours might as well pass and I won't be able to refund, so that's what I'm gonna do now. Don't want to play this game with a horrible localization, I'd rather get it other ways.

That's just weird. The German version contain all languages, including Russian and Polish.

Maybe you should PM (or better tweet) a producer, like Mark Darrah, and ask if they can do something about that.

I asked him on twitter. He said

You can switch the text to English. Go into the options (3rd from bottom) Audio (4th from bottom) Text Language is 2nd last

but that doesn't work on the PL/RUS version, the options are locked. When I told him that that was the response (that was ca 17h ago) (x)

hmmm. This may be related to the region itself. I'll see what I can find out

So far no new info. Maybe other people should start asking the devs about it

Devs can't do **** about it even if they would want to, it is publisher's policy. And someone tried twittering him yesterday, he advised to switch language in the game options so...

IMO knowing how same inquires for BF 4 and ME 3 ended this is not going to happen

I have noticed that people keep asking same questions all over again. I've updated the OP with all you need to know.

Please refrain from asking questions unless you've read the FAQ in OP! It was written specifically for the convenience of yourself and other participants of this madness.

All right. The solution is here. I was so stupid. Stupid, stupid, stupid... Here are the steps. Some of them may be skipped, further testing is needed. International language pack files to follow.

1) Copy en.sb and en.toc files from the international version to the "C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\Dragon Age Inquisition\Data\Win32\loctext" directory. You don't need to delete the "ru" files.

2) Copy GDFBinary_en_US.dll from the international version to the "C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\Dragon Age Inquisition\__Installer" directory. You do not need to delete GDFBinary_ru_RU.dll.

3) Open the registry editor, go to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\BioWare\Dragon Age Inquisition", and change the following keys:

Locale: from "ru_RU" to "en_US".

GDFBinary: from "C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\Dragon Age Inquisition\__Installer\GDFBinary_ru_RU.dll" to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\Dragon Age Inquisition\__Installer\GDFBinary_en_US.dll".

4) Now go to the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Origin Games" key. There will be a bunch of subkeys related to Dragon Age Inquisition. Change the "Locale" to "en_US" for all of them.

5) Download Outcome - free replacement for the Origin client: http://outcome.nofate.me/

6) CLOSE ORIGIN!!! (this was my mistake). Run Outcome, log in with your origin credentials, and let it patch the DragonAgeInquisition.par file.

7) Run the game directly (DragonAgeInquisition.exe) or using a desktop shortcut. Enjoy the full international version :)

Please confirm that it's working for you.

At a glance, few questions popped up.

Are you able to play in multiplayer after these alterations?

Do you receive achievements?

No, multiplayer is unavailable. Dragon Age Keep is unavailable, either, although I suppose you could use it once with Origin to import the world state, and then switch to Outcome. Can't say about achievements, because I haven't actually started playing yet - just been running benchmarks and poking around game settings.

Update: you CAN launch the game using Outcome, then alt-tab, launch Origin, let it go online, alt-tab back to the game, and then connect to Origin servers from the game menu. Seems to work.

Not to mention that Germans have their English DLC for those who prefer to play it in English, you know...

yeah. It's about time to answer the question, that had been asked back in April. Just a one day past the release...

OK, the bottom line seems to be this: you CAN'T have Origin running when you start Dragon Age: Inquisition, because it'll put the game in the "Russian only" mode, regardless of what you do with the game files or registry. You can, however, run Origin at any time AFTER you launch the game using Outcome to enable online features. Leaving auto-updates on in Origin also seems to be safe - unlike ME3, it doesn't appear to screw up the language modifications made to the game.

Damn, man, you are my hero. Thank you :)

Edit: Multilayer available after re logging into Origin, just like you said.

In case using this method somehow gets you banned, be sure to tell here. Using 3rd party launcher might just qualify as "DRM circumvention".
