This makes me feel ignored and slighted. It's rude. And, for a company, unwise.
I agree with you that the decision was rude, but I don't believe it was unwise. Derek French said that "there are a number of business issues at play here" and it seems plausible. Those may not be the most important markets for the game, but they are still quite big. You do not make such a decision hastily.
Apparently they came to the conclusion that our concerns are relatively insignificant. Somebody said that people preferring original version from the one translated to their native language are very few. I would disagree. I'm not that special, we're talking about English here, not some exotic language. But I don't know the statistics.
What may be the key factor is how people behave. They do not say: "Dear developer(/distributor/whatever), I will buy the game if and when you start treating me seriously and offer me the product I want and the rest of the world has". No. What they do is paying for the subpar product anyway and then loosing time in order to try to adopt it to something similar to their requirements. They tremble in fear of being punished for changing some files on their own computers, in the program they bought and payed for. They risk that one day somebody will patch Origin to take into account their "evil meddling" and once they load their game, they will find their Inquisitor no longer in Val Royeaux but back to ВАЛЬРОЙЕУ. Or they give up and play with native subtitles. Or they use VPNs and other tricks. The bottom line is: THEY PAY FOR THE GAME ANYWAY. So why should EA/Bioware bother and waste money in order to offer us bigger variety of products? It's apparently not necessary and thus would be a bad business decision. It's not EA's fault, it's ours. Sorry.
And as for being rude, think about people in countries that are neither Russia or Poland and still can choose between those two languages only. How tactful, isn't it?
As for me, I will get the game in the end, I think. I liked the two previous installments and judging from what I see and other people reactions (even criticism) I will most probably enjoy this one. But not now. I'm yet to decide how and when. Thank you EA for letting me discover that I can be patient. I always thought otherwise. Still, I do understand people that choose not to wait. To each their own.
