ME3 was only affected by patches and client repair. DLCs did not break anything.

ME3 was affected because patches and client repairs replaced SKU.bin which contained the localization info. This does not seem to be the case with DA:I. If you do a game repair in Origin, it will overwrite DragonAgeInquisition.par, but then Outcome will re-patch it at the next launch. So for the moment, we seem to be safe from future patches, unless EA somehow changes the language authorization mechanism.

Not the worst possible situation. They still need to put language info in bigger letters and outline it. But at least (AFAIK) the info was out there for a long time before release and you at least get english VO.

So it seems EA is now only second-worst publisher in the world. Ubisoft has taken its place. They locked AC:U and FC4 to russian (text AND VO), they announced it hours before release (and only on Steam, at Ubishop both Gold editions still show no language info), they do not refund those locked copies.

What I will never understand though is WHY both publishers don't provide us with CHOICE. Pay full price - get full multi-language version, pay cheap "regional" price - get language locked regional version. It is so SIMPLE. Just a few strings of code in Origin app. "Click here to pay less and get less, click here to pay full price and get everything". They already have that choice with Standart and Deluxe editions... And then they would get more money too... Highly illogical.

I actually said "screw it" and refunded my pc purchase... bought a ps4 version instead from US psn

btw, funny fact is, even in russian psn games are so damn expensive that just 2 month before, when USD was cheaper than now, games in there costed even more than in US psn. and yet still language locked. what the heck? if it's about marketing, then why do you even language lock your game when it's considerably more expensive than in region without this language lock? plain stupidity.

Just checked, Using Outcome to initially launch the game, and later running Origin to connect the game to EA servers lets you play with english text and earn achievements like normal.

Okay people, I've killed yesterday evening trying to solve the 'hardcoded' local language problem. The only workable solution (without recurring to Outcome) is to get the copy refunded and purchase a new one from Peru. The easiest way is to use Hola plugin for that.

Thanks to the inventors of this workaround. Now I have a fully official English version of the game.

From my own experience trying to replace Russian subs with English by replacing files, this will only lead to getting stuck at the loading screen at best. At worst, it won't even start.

Hi everyone. I just picked up my physical copy of the game for PC. I'm from Poland. At the moment in the process of installing the game. What language subs option is avaliable? UR right - Polish and Russian ! No English text at all ... Ugh... :(

Will your solution with swapping files work for me as well? I want to be able to play in English too ...

@ToxicLq That solurion on the first page is good for both Polish and Russian games. You need to chose one of those two methods. You either return your Polish game and buy an English one instead or follow the 'plan b'.  There's a link to the eng files, but you need to do as it says, simple copy-paste won't work.

I find it highly disgusting and disturbing that I won't be able to play with english subtitles. I do not intend to compromise my ideals and submit to other-than-origin methods. I do not receive profits from EA business practise thus I do not really see a need to exrcise any sympathy for them. They have failed miserably with providing me a fully working as itended, immersive RPG gameplay. I will finish DAI with polish subtitles but it is a good lesson, one that casts shadow upon my future purchase decisions. 219zł is not a small price for a game. Ironically 'special edition' turned out to be really special in its ill conceived meaning.

They should at least release it(that is english subtitles) as free-or-1zł DLC

Enabling English subtitles in the region-locked Russian/Polish version of Dragon Age: Inquisition

1) Install the game normally using Origin.

2) Download the English language pack: http://rghost.net/59136659 (Note to other members: please feel free to re-upload the pack to other file hosting services).

3) Extract the archive contents into "Dragon Age Inquisition\Data\Win32\loctext". The default path for 64-bit systems is "C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\Dragon Age Inquisition\Data\Win32\loctext". You do not need to delete the existing files (ru.sb and ru.toc or pl.sb and pl.toc, depending on your selected language version). Leaving them in place will let you switch freely between English and Russian/Polish subtitles.

4) Download and install Outcome - free replacement for the Origin client: http://outcome.nofate.me/

5) Close Origin. This is important! If Origin remains running, it will always force the game to start in the "Russian/Polish only" mode.

6) Run Outcome and log in with your Origin credentials. Outcome will automatically patch "DragonAgeInquisition.par" in the Dragon Age Inquisition directory and create a .bak file. Note: if DragonAgeInquisition.par is overwritten (for example, if you do a game repair in Origin), Outcome will be unable to patch it again until you manually delete the DragonAgeInquisition.par.bak file.

7) Launch the game directly by double-clicking DragonAgeInquisition.exe in the Dragon Age Inquisition directory, or use the desktop shortcut if you created one.

8) Choose your desired subtitle language in the game: "Настройки - > Звук -> Язык текста" in Russian, "Options - > Audio -> Text Language" in English (Note to other members: please feel free to add the correct path for the Polish version).

9) Optional: to access online features such as multiplayer and Dragon Age Keep, Alt-Tab from the game, run Origin, log in and go online, then Alt-Tab back into the game and press "Log In" on the main screen. Don't forget to close Origin when you need re-launch the game.

Thanks so much for this solution))

but i have a question about this Outcome program - is it not against the origin rules to use it?

The thing is it's neither Allan's nor Derek's job to communicate with us, answer questions etc. It's more like their good will combined with some amount of free time. E.g. Allan is Technical Quality Assurance Analyst, not forum moderator or community support. He does post a lot, because he wants to, and many of his posts are very useful and helpful. Same with Derek, which spent some of his time clarifying something that should have been clear from the start.

Right now no comment can change a thing. They had either followed the original plan to provide English text for all the versions, or EA\Origin had restricted the languages. Those who have preordered should be able to get their refund in any case. Either this, or using some 'unofficial' ways to bring some Justice into this world.

ps: To be honest I'm so tired of waiting and playing this 'guess the language' mini-game, that I don't even care anymore. I'll get it in English, one way or another, that's what I know. If need be I'd ask my brother to fetch me a DVD from EU.

A topic was opened concerning the poor UI execution on PC and whether or not people looking to play on PC were seeking refunds because of it.

http://forum.bioware...ues/?p=17807801

This would be along the lines of giving Bioware FEEDBACK, per the label on this forum..

Bioware is here; reading. The thread was immediately locked.

Bioware is just not listening to what it does not want to hear. The thread was immediately locked..

This makes me feel ignored and slighted. It's rude. And, for a company, unwise.

I say - Don't trouble trouble.

This thread had lasted this long, and I'd really hate to see it locked because of the pointless hatred posts.

Derailing might be the very excuse they use to shut it down.

I do not think that any of the opinions presented here bear a sign of hatred(except for this one), but I see plenty of honest disappointment. As customer I (I will speak for myself) do not fancy this kind of silence and treatment in general. Truly, what is there to derail? We are repeating the same question almost like a mantra: Will we get english subtitles? I appreciate the work of people who tried and made it possible to change subtitles by using outside software, but Origin client and its content stands where it stood. They will either ignore us or lock us.

1. Ask for a refund

2. Use the way proposed in this thread

I have decided to keep the game even though I do not like, wrong, I hate to listen to one thing and read the other. It is an RPG for Lord's sake!

DA:I is most definately worth buying and playing. The question is: will BioWare/EA allow me to fully enjoy their product?

Sadly the refund option is out for me since I bought boxed copy of game so Origin rules don't apply.

I seen this language lock before and it seems to repeat here... and it's the first one I seen from quite some time. They went away from that on Steam some time ago for most titles.

Game seems quite good and I'll try to play it in Polish/English VO mode but it's not optimal. Not sure if I want to try replacement for Origin to launch the game.

Lesson learned tho - I will take care with my future purchases that bear EA logo. It's a disappointing "solution" by EA and it gives bad name to BioWare with no fault of their own :|

Hello Guys

English Language was supposed to be available for all versions of the game.

I have a Polish version, voices are in English as it should be, but there is no way to change Polish interface text language to English or to disable it entirely.

Bioware Please, for the Maker, do something with it.

English interface text files are just couple hundred kilobytes at most.

Please add this into the next patch so that text language is swappable. This is just bad.  :(

Why doesn't origin allow us to buy the game in the language we want to in the first place. If there was a way I would have bought the game in English to have it all in the language this game is played best.

This makes me feel ignored and slighted. It's rude. And, for a company, unwise.

I agree with you that the decision was rude, but I don't believe it was unwise. Derek French said that "there are a number of business issues at play here" and it seems plausible. Those may not be the most important markets for the game, but they are still quite big. You do not make such a decision hastily.

Apparently they came to the conclusion that our concerns are relatively insignificant. Somebody said that people preferring original version from the one translated to their native language are very few. I would disagree. I'm not that special, we're talking about English here, not some exotic language. But I don't know the statistics.

What may be the key factor is how people behave. They do not say: "Dear developer(/distributor/whatever), I will buy the game if and when you start treating me seriously and offer me the product I want and the rest of the world has". No. What they do is paying for the subpar product anyway and then loosing time in order to try to adopt it to something similar to their requirements. They tremble in fear of being punished for changing some files on their own computers, in the program they bought and payed for. They risk that one day somebody will patch Origin to take into account their "evil meddling" and once they load their game, they will find their Inquisitor no longer in Val Royeaux but back to ВАЛЬРОЙЕУ. Or they give up and play with native subtitles. Or they use VPNs and other tricks. The bottom line is: THEY PAY FOR THE GAME ANYWAY. So why should EA/Bioware bother and waste money in order to offer us bigger variety of products? It's apparently not necessary and thus would be a bad business decision. It's not EA's fault, it's ours. Sorry.

And as for being rude, think about people in countries that are neither Russia or Poland and still can choose between those two languages only. How tactful, isn't it?

As for me, I will get the game in the end, I think.  I liked the two previous installments and judging from what I see and other people reactions (even criticism) I will most probably enjoy this one. But not now. I'm yet to decide how and when. Thank you EA for letting me discover that I can be patient. I always thought otherwise. Still, I do understand people that choose not to wait. To each their own.

Most of you guys are asking the wrong question. You are asking if they will ever lift regional locks and add english text to a cheaper priced "regional" version of the game. I can answer that for you. NO! They never will. And in the future they will probably remove english sound in favor of localized one. This is because for majority of people this is a great situation. They do not understand english and they are unwilling to pay full EU price for a game and regionally locking it is the only way to prevent reimport, at least to some degree.

What we SHOULD ask however is a CHOICE. For those of us who are willing to pay full price to get a game with all available languages there should be an easy and accessible option to do so.

This. Seven times this. If we had the CHOICE to buy the English-enabled version, we'd buy it, and those who don't know English would buy the Russian one, and everyone would be happy.

Why EA is refusing to take our money is not something I understand.
