Most of you guys are asking the wrong question. You are asking if they will ever lift regional locks and add english text to a cheaper priced "regional" version of the game. I can answer that for you. NO! They never will. And in the future they will probably remove english sound in favor of localized one. This is because for majority of people this is a great situation. They do not understand english and they are unwilling to pay full EU price for a game and regionally locking it is the only way to prevent reimport, at least to some degree.

What we SHOULD ask however is a CHOICE. For those of us who are willing to pay full price to get a game with all available languages there should be an easy and accessible option to do so.

The most depressing thing is that at least in Poland the game is not that cheaper. 10-20% cheaper vs some other EU markets (when comparing cheapest shops).

Such extreme actions as blocking languages should not be used for such small price disparity. And its still possible to buy the game cheaper then in Poland using VPN and origin...

Game publishers forced DRMs and region locks and its still not enough. They are punishing legitimate costumers even more. Pathetic.

Unlikely. VA costs time& money. Even if they hire the worst and the cheapest (which is very likely to be true) it adds some expenses. Texts are costly too, but still cheaper than hiring plenty of foreign actors and extra recording.

So far the only regions with full VA were France and Germany, my guess is that it has something to do with the local rules in those countries. E.g. developer can not sell a game without full localization. So they had to follow the rules, but they also had offered a free EN_VA DLC (which does not add much to their expenses,  they have those VAs anyway).

Guys, I know that everyone is pissed off that we have to download additional files and use Outcome to enable English subtitles; but think about this:

Both Steam and Uplay which are the other two large game distribution services, have region-lock on their games. That means, you cannot even buy a game from another region. So we should be grateful really that EA has not (yet) introduced such policies here.

I myself live in UK, but I come from Ukraine, and I don't earn nearly enough money to be able to pay 60 quid for every game that comes out. Being able to purchase a Russian edition for three times less the cost, and still play it in English after a few tweaks is still better for me than dishing out a sh** ton of money for something I might not even end up liking.

So, consider this before writing another hateful comment! Use it wisely while you still can.

Actually, both Origin and Uplay have the same thing - the being unable to buy an English version if you're Russian or Polish is the same region-lock.

Except on Steam, when you buy a regionlocked game, IT STILL HAS ALL THE LANGUAGES IN IT.

The information is still there but you have to srcoll down to the end of the page to see it and on PC no one even thing that there is no English in game options it was a standard, until Orgin it seams  ehhhh.....

Not in France, they dub in French because they must see it as a profitable investment.

No. The market expects localized versions of everything which is very frustrating for people who want to consume their media in its original language.

On German TV and in cinemas (almost) everything is dubbed. Console games often don't include English localization. And since everything is in German all the time, people have very little contact with other languages after they leave school.

I'm from Argentina (South America) and I have been able to play every single Origin game in english. The Origin client is in english, and the store page is in spanish (it detects that I'm in Latin America so it shows me the Mexican store page), but the games are downloaded and installed in english. The only thing that was different with DA:I was that it asked me for an extra download that had the english voiceovers, but other than that the game installed fine.

It only affects the voices, and for the Russian and Polish versions, they are already in English.

The menus and Codex and subtitles and everything is in Russian or Polish, and the translation quality is TERRIBLE.

Well I for one can't buy games on Steam for the Russian price, and it really annoys me that all the friends from my home country can but I am for some reason forced to pay x3333 times the price for exactly the same content. This is one of the reasons I hate the UK in general... prices are well over the norm. Even US has much better pricing on videogames.

And I think Uplay games cannot be played in the region different from region of purchase anymore. I recently asked their support whether I would be able to play a Russian edition of AC Unity in the UK, and have been told that it is not possible.

And no, it's not the same region lock. On Steam I won't be able to play a Russian edition no matter what. On Origin, I can play the Russian edition and with English subtitles, and a little tempering with the game does not bother me.

But anyhow, I guess game devs have a right to lock English language from Russian purchasers. I still remember that Cameron Lee interview with a Russian a-hole from IGN (or was it GoHa?). AND the leak of Inquisition art books way before the game release. Serves you right.

Don't see why they also disable it for the Polish community though...

The reson they did what they do is becouse of ppl for EU or UK (or where ever high price point for game is like Austalia)that use VPN or Proxy to use PL/RUS Orgin store to buy games. They set eng languge in setting and are set. The problem with this is Polish and Russian customers that want eng verison becuse translation sucks get worse version then they should. Its the same situation that happen in DRM world. PPL buy a game with horribel DRM and suffer becuse publisher put it to stop pirats(witch will get drm free version so or so) the only one that suffer is the paying customer.

Are you serious? Like, really? "Serves you right"? I have no influence on what idiots from my country decide to do in their free time, and you think it is right that i am "punished" for their doing? That i don`t even have a choice to buy an international version for the full price? (I`m not talking vpn here.) Great thinking right there.

I don`t think they actually restricted the languages because of that, btw. EA and Bioware seems to be smarter than to base their business decisions solely on some interviews or art book leaks.

First, on Steam you CAN buy and play Russian edition using same VPN trick which allows buy games from different region in Origin. It works more or less identical with any protection system based on IP address of user.

Second, I don't see how some freaks or leaked content is related to problems which EA creates exclusively for legitimate and loyal customers. Pirates don't care about such things anyway (for obvious reasons), only honest people who are ready to pay for games is affected. Technically  I can wait for some time and get  "Pirate Edition" with all current and future DLC for free. But no, I'm preordering the game, I'm ready to pay for additional content in the future (assuming I'll like the game), and it is I who have all sort of troubles, not pirates. What the hell, really?

Polish subtitles definately ruin immersive-rpg experience for me. I hear "Cassandra" but I read "Kasandra". While translation itself might be close to the original, it does not translate well on the screen when you choose *answer options* from the wheel in polish and then listen to it in english. It is as if I'm an invisible person who's words are being translated by the 'Inquisitor' avatar.

Steam has a varied system of restrictions. Some games one can not buy and\or play outside the region, some one can not gift to a friend,  sell on market or even 'share' via the family library. Very little of those have locked languages (no matter what type of restriction is applied). E.g. I've got a CIS copy of 'Remember Me', that is only supposed to be sold&played in CIS, my friends from France and Canada don't even see it on my shared library. I play it in English (with plenty of other language options to pick from).

I know. I'm just saying that if someone really want to change his region for Steam then he can do it. This can have some unexpected consequenсes, but it's another story.

Personally I would be willing to get few euro english game "dlc" instead of that strange idea of translation I can see comparing Polish subtitles with what I'm hearing in English voice overs.

Playing with the Polish subtitles is horrible. Not only do they ruin immersion, but at least for me they have incorrect gender - I chose a male character and the subtitles refer to my character as a female.

I really hope they allow us to somehow patch this in officially sooner or later (preferrably sooner).

[steamvent]And how depressing is that... We pay less not because of the contents of our games, but because of our economy. So, basically, all the business points aside, we are now ASKING to be charged more (taking income ratio into account) to receive the same product. As if english, instead of original language, became Premium language for select few who can afford it. It's just the language. Games from Katauri look better in russian, so, should have they charged extra for the language someone abroad may or may not speak? I know, I know, business issues, financial plans... But I just hate this feeling of "russkies are unworthy of our Celtic glory" the whole situation stirs in me.[/steamvent]

I don't understand the "business issues" part. Germans and French people get an entire VOICE OVER pack (which is infinitely harder to make and costs infinitely more money) for free and we can't even unlock (UNLOCK, the files are already there!) another subtitle language?

I prefer english versions not because I feel russian is in any way inferior, or english is superior. Games that were MADE in russian I prefer to play in russian. and in those rare instances of a good localization I can play it in russian. However. Most of them russian localizations are just horrible. Not only the quality of translation itself, but voice acting as well.

Hey guys,

You can't even imagine how frustrated I am. In August I received this mesaage from the DA Facebook account:

Hey Katarzyna, we did some digging on this and from the information we have available, it appears that the game in Poland will in fact be released with both English audio and English text. There will also be Polish text available if you prefer.

All Polish and Russian buyers can see that it was BS.

But I have a question - have anyone tried calling the helpdesk in Poland +48 22 39 70 840? What did they say? I realised that it exists three minutes after closing the lines for today.

Technically speaking, VO is the same deal as the subtitles/UI. It's not like you get the special English VO, it's the same one as for US/UK market.

Okay, people, solution! (one that does not require using any third party launchers):

1. Download the en.toc and en.sb files from the link provided in this topic.

2. Put them into the Data\Win32\loctext directory of your installation.

3. Rename the pl.sb and pl.toc (or ru.sb and ru.toc) to pl.sb.bak and pl.toc.bak (or ru, respectively).

4. Rename the en.sb and en.toc to pl.sb and pl.toc (or ru.sb and ru.toc).

5. Open the files with any editor that does not break binary data (Notepad++ will do nicely).

6. Replace all occurences of /en/ with /pl/ (or /ru/).

Voila! English subtitles.
