I agree that people in some countries should have the option to buy the English version of the game at US price. However, the Russian version itself shouldn't have English language support.

The problem with most Russian-only versions is that the Russian version is sold at a significantly lower price than the English versions. If the Russian versions have English language support by default, then a lot of people around the world will use VPN and buy the cheaper version.

Selling the English language pack as a DLC between the price of a Russian version and an English version is not a bad idea.

The Poles are suffering from that issue, too, and in Poland, it isn't that much cheaper than in the US or the rest of the EU (of which Poland is a member, BTW). Not to mention the Ukrainians who get the Russian version shoved down their throats (a sensible issue these days, and let's just leave it at that).

Still zero response from the devs? Considering how a lot of people had to pay bloody double for UK version to play in english with english subtitles it'd be nice if we could get some official statement on the matter.

Why can't they make it full English version with country IP-lock the way Steam does to prevent gifting\VPNing from happening?

I wonder what version the Baltic countries got. I would say the original one, otherwise they would not be that quiet. I can imagine that giving them a choice between Russian and Polish language would have rubbed a lot of people the wrong way (and understandably so). Which leads to the next question - what is the price of the game over there?

Polish prices (expressed in USD) are 65 for digital deluxe version at origin, 53 for regular one and 45 for a DVD in the biggest media store chain.

What about Russia, Ukraine, Eurozone, UK and US? Or Mexico? Because we are talking about cheaper and more expensive versions, but did somebody actually make a comparison? Especially that putting Russian and Polish prices into the same basket most probably does not even make sense, taking into account Russian Ruble exchange rates' changes. If I remember correctly Russian prices had to be adjusted recently to take that into account.

, but did somebody actually make a comparison?

Nope. It's just a good old tradition to consider Russia a 'cheap region' that deserves its restrictions to prevent greedy EU and UK customers from buying our games. :)

If I remember correctly Russian prices had to be adjusted recently to take that into account.

True.

Back in April  as the preorder started, it had been ~38EUR (~50USD) for a digital standard. That's what people payed. The exchange rate madness does not change a thing, because salaries do not tend to follow the exchange rates.

Current  RU_DAI  price is ~40USD, but that's not because it became any cheaper compared to the original pre-order price, it's because USD became something like 1.5-1.8 more expensive.

And now -  tada! The price I payed for my Mexican version is 39.99USD. If the USD rate drops a little bit lower, Russian customers are about to save some money buying their  slightly cheaper Mexican version with a native English text.

I don't know if it will help or if it is a dumb answer to your problems. I bought the game on french origin and although i did have english texts i had french voice, so not a true english version. I had the option on origin to "buy" for 0 euros a VO dlc that adds english language and now my game is full VO. I don't know if it is available in Russia but I thought it was worth a shot.

In russian/polish version you have english voices but russian/polish text which you can't switch.

That's their policy. No point in arguing over it at all. Just use one of the methods to switch the language. I prefer Outcome one, it preserves the fonts that are in original, the file editing one is more prone to patches/repairs and changes the font.

Dialogs look different, I saw a comparison.

Mind you, those are not my pictures.

Mine looks like this:

Notice, how Outcome allows me to use Steam? :P A bonus thing.

Origin slows the game down. Steam doesn't. Where's the logic?

All I can say is I really can't believe that an AAA game could ever not have the option to change the language in it, nor do I understand why you could not buy whatever version you wanted to in the first place instead of just the Russian/Polsih one.

This is a disgrace.  Any company that actually has a  problem of this sort in this day of age should feel very very ashamed of themselves.  It is embarrassing.

We all know that people can travel all over the world for business reasons, sometimes months at time.  They will therefore live in another country for quite some time, sometimes months, and not know the native language at all.

It is therefore easy to assume that not everybody who currently lives in an area can speak the language for this and so many other reasons.

It is a very embarassing for any company to not understand that.

When I hear (i understand spoken english quite well) something else than I see (i'm not a native speaker so i always turn subs on) on the screen, I cannot understand a word - my brain tries to translate and connect the words in two different languages, little time is left to actually get the meaning behind them. A bit schizophrenic, don't you think? I turned off the subs, it helped a bit but i feel i'm missing huge part out (ambient dialogues, no way to re-read dialogue and choose the answer).

I can confirm that English native font looks like the upper one on this picture. I've never seen Russian\Polish ones, though.

100% true. To play with local subs (such as they are) one should either not to understand the spoken words entirely or not to care about the writing.

Exactly. It is a huge PITA for those who understand English, and of course nobody in EA cares about english/german/spanish/insert whatever-speaking people, who work in this region.

Do I understand it correctly, Russia and Poland are the only countries in the world who didn't get english subtitles? Aren't we lucky!

None that I'm aware of.

But there are complaints from people who could not figure how to pick the desired language (officially supported within the region). E.g. I've seen a post from Italian player who lives in Spain, and he was struggling to get the Italian texts instead of Spanish ones. Origin enjoys using the IP location to define the languages, you see.

No, you forget Ukraine, which didn't get the original version nor any kind of localization, just a choice between (partial) localizations for two of it's neighbors.

But I see no point in whining like a bunch of Anderses. We have one of the dev's response that this was a deliberate decision caused by some business reasons. There is nothing indicating that they plan to change it. They apparently assumed that those who want the original version will either tinker with the game they got or use VPN or other method of buying the game abroad. It's irritating and I should feel offended as a consumer but on the other hand clicking a few buttons on (for example) Amazon is not that difficult. What can you do?

Aside for the fact that using two different languages at the same time gives me a headache, the Polish translation, no matter how good or bad it is is just ... Let me give you a random example:

Dragon Age - Przystań Szarego Strażnika
Masz zamiar zbadać Szmaragdowe Mogiły. Kogo wybierasz?
Która towarzyszka jest w twojej drużynie?

Even if I understand it, it still sounds like black speech of Mordor! Good luck with immersion.

Speaking of which, EA Poland office is at Domaniewska street in the neighborhood commonly referred to as Mordor. I'm  serious: https://www.facebook...NaDomaniewskiej Coincidence? ;)

Mordor. :D

Yes, I know it's not that difficult. It's just annoying that I have to do some side maneuvers with my honestly bought game. I rarely look at subtitles, maybe should switch them off completely. This is not the worst localisation, but they completely butchered Sera's expressive speech, for example.

I find it hilarious, that as soon as Denuvo gets cracked, pirates will have much better position that us, who bought the game.

Remember the times when 15 years ago in game installer was an option to choose from at least few languages ?
I remember it and I feel stupefied that we're almost in 2015 and I have to play with polish subtitles which I didn't want.
There are things which can't be translated into another language and I feel like I have to think twice as much when I get to hear great lines in english and have to choose from polish ones.
Really not cool.

This is not just a disgrace, it just makes no sense. Its not about money, cos there is version of the game that cost ~ the same amount as rus, yet it does have english text option. I cant come to any reason why would they make such decision.

But even if there was a reason, its just a retarded policy that fixes none of the imaginary problems that ea sees.

Yeah... it was probably translated by professional translator, but it looks like it was done line after line without knowing context (f.e. gone in meaning dead translated as "left", male/female problems etc.). It's annoying and as you said it kills immersion.

I wanted to give this one a pass. I was disillusioned after the 2nd one, so I planned to give it time till price drops. But no, I had to be tempted by positive reviews and good things I heard about the game. Just to run into goddamn region lock.

I just hope that next time I won't be stupid again and I won't buy the game. Whatever it will be.
