Yes, it does. Unless you already have them, that is. I downloaded the full pirate version just for those files.

I'm still getting no text at all :(

If you country didn't require a special version of the game you wouldn't have that problem.

That's why you have to download English files separately for the first time. When I wrote "unless you already have them", I meant "unless you already downloaded them somewhere".

That's because the patch removed the renamed files you had. You'll have to download them again, unless you have another copy stored somewhere. This issue is what made me think that my solution is better, and that is the reason why I posted here. Actually, it would be wrong to say that it is my solution. I just combined the solutions that already exist.

I decided, since I bought the official deluxe edition anyway, it will be no crime to download a pirated version as well.

Morally, I would agree. Legally, well, it's probably still pretty illegal. Which is kind of sad, if you ask me  :(

Yeah, well, we must be special in some way, idk  ;)

So does this need english files downloaded or not? Thanks for the post :)

To clarify this mess a bit, you actually need two sets of English files:

...\Dragon Age Inquisition\Data\Win32\loctext\en.sb

...\Dragon Age Inquisition\Data\Win32\loctext\en.toc

(these two must be downloaded from somwhere, they're not included in the localized game)

...\Dragon Age Inquisition\Update\Patch\Data\Win32\loctext\en.sb

...\Dragon Age Inquisition\Update\Patch\Data\Win32\loctext\en.toc
(these are included in Patch 3, at least in my case, so needn't be downloaded again)

Each of these four distinct files has to be renamed (eg. en.sb -> pl.sb) and edited (eg. replace /en/ with /pl/).

I don't have to rename or edit anything. That's just what I wrote about in the first place. Just use Outcome or the trick I described to prevent Origin from forcing the game to run in Russian/Polish only mode. All other conditions described in the post above are necessary, of course.

For the first set, will post-patch 2 files work, like these? Or did Patch 3 change them too?

So the game just patched to 1.03. All I did is re-fixed the game using english files from patch 2. I didn't change loc files in update directory. Everything works fine (Polish version here).

I'd say they will work. I used files form Patch 2 for the Polish version

Hmm, interesting. After Patch 3, all text in my game just disappeared.

I still got the problem to get this to work. Before the patch everything was fine and dandy with the edited and renamed en files, after the patch my game wouldn't show me any text so I restored original language files.

When I try to rename and edit both en.sb/en.toc in data and in patch directory I can't even get the game to open, I'm stuck in the loading screen forever.

If I change the files only in data directory I don't get any text at all.

Does anyone have a walkaround this?

I have polish version and I can't stand it.

Also, shame on the developers. I bought the game so I can use the Keep, but it was a mistake. No toggle walking for PC, no English subtitles, I feel very disappointed and angry.

Strange.
For the first set of files (/Data/), I used these: http://rghost.net/59551454
For the second (/Update/), I just copied & edited the en.* files already present in the directory.

To be fair, I'd think the developers might not have had much say in the matter of available subtitle languages. Seems to me more like a publishing decision (and also probably some extra work for the devs, who had to prepare different packages for different regions, instead of just one for everybody, with all languages included). The PC version (which I am playing with the Xbox controller, as I can't stand the keyboard/mouse controls implementation in the game) probably also wasn't very high on the publisher's priorities list.

In the end, money explains a lot.

if you look on certain popular torrent site, you can find an unofficial subtitles patch

worked great for me, polish version to eng GB, halfway through the game, just run registry change only once (the one you choose)

kind of sad that I bought the game in the shop and have to look for english version subtitles on a torrent site -_-

Nevermind. Solved the issue, Notepad was messing the language file in the saving process.

I'd like them to do something about this. I bought the game on the PS Store and the non refundable digital download I had only has French. Since it's on a console my only hope is for Bioware to do something about this (my apologies for not having a PC able to run the game). I do not have much hope but I would be delighted to be surprised.

Patch 5 is upon us. Using the old edited files from Patch 2 still works, but some stuff like several crafting item properties (like ones with +bleed%) and newly added features like colouring and party storage are in localized language now. Probably their strings are in some other place.

Can somebody please reupload the English files to somewhere else than rghost? Their servers seem to be offline...

As game is patched to 1.05 some things mess up if you use old files. It's good for most of the part, but some new features like coloring and new properties on items (I think it should be "sunder" in english) are now in local language. If someone could upload new english files I quess a lot of people would be most grateful.

I took the eng files from my newly patched DA:I folder. From both the main and patch data. Hope it helps.

Here is the link.

Hey, can you describe what you did, details? I followed the usual routine, the Outcome method, replaced my en.sb and en.toc with the files from Luxorek's archive, both in main and in patch folders, and now I'm stuck at an infinite loading screen. Never happened to me before.

Sure thing. Well, I assume you have russian version if it is polish or in other language it's still the same but names of the files will be different. For russian it's ru.sb and ru.toc, for polish I believe it's pl.sb and pl.toc etc. Go to you \Dragon Age Inquisition\Data\Win32\loctext folder. There should be 2 files, ru.sb and ru.toc. Rename them, for example by adding "_" in files name like _ru.sb and _ru.toc. Just in case you will need them. Then place respective files from Luxorek's archive into this folder, en.sb and en.toc. Rename them to ru.sb and ru.toc. Open ru.sb with text editor, I've used notepad++ myself. Then use "Replace" option of your editor to replace all /en/ with /ru/ in this file. Save. Repeat the same with ru.toc. Then do the same stuff with 2 files from \Dragon Age Inquisition\Update\Patch\Data\Win32\loctext, i.e. backpack original files by renaming them, place new files and rename them to ru.sb and ru.toc and replace all /en/ within those files with /ru/
