Bwahaha, that's amazing, thank you ![]()
Would "grozny" work better? I've heard people suggest that "dread" or "fearsome" is a better translation for Ivan the Terrible
No, not really. "Грозный волк" looks even more ridiculous ![]()

You read my mind, I also immideatly remembered that scene ![]()
In any way, I agree with Ivy - grozny/грозный would be even worse. Honestly, I don't know how to translate Dread Wolf better, than it is already in the game...

The 'perfect' translation should (more or less) look like a 'realistic' set phrase and it should not provoke any undesirable associations. E.g. Drizzt Do'Urden was turned into Dzirt for a reason, you know.
If I had to pick the variant I'd rather go for "черный" (black). It's not a literal translation - true, but it's much more fitting than "ужасный", especially for something like 'By the Dread Wolf!..' or 'Dread Wolf take you!'.

Yeah, it's a good question, I keep thinking about it. I do believe literal translation is of little use here, so "черный волк" might be a step in the right direction. Still, I'll keep thinking ![]()
Hmm, how about "Жуткий Волк"?
Now I wonder how was "Dread Wolf take you" translated?... Ужасный Волк тебя подери? ![]()
нас щас наругают за оффтоп
Now I wonder how was "Dread Wolf take you" translated?... Ужасный Волк тебя подери?
Lol, that would be hilarious!
Maybe I should've left my subtitles in russian after all... "чисто поржать" ![]()
"Жуткий волк", yeah, I thought about it too - better than страшный or ужасный, but still far from perfect imo. I'm off to bed now, but tomorrow I'll share some of my ideas on this matter ![]()
Should we maybe open a new thread about tricky translation cases? Because "the Dread Wolf" is not the worst of it, you know ![]()

Maybe we should, although I admit I haven't played DAI in russian much, so I don't really know of any other terrible translations ![]()
I'm sorry, I got distracted.
I don't know about other terrible translations either, I meant there are more cases where translation (to russian, at least) seems extremely tricky. My favorite examples are "the chantry" and "the chant". Close second is "darkspawn" ![]()
Anyway, back to the Dread Wolf, I have a couple of suggestions. The first one is "Лютый волк". Easy. The second is a bit more peculiar, but I think I like it better - "Жуть-Волк", a construction similar to "Жар-Птица". I like the folklore ring to it, seems very appropriate ![]()

I like "Лютый Волк" a lot!
Although... it reminds me of Game of Thrones - "Лютоволк", that's how they translated "direwolf".
And the meaning of "лютый" is more like cruel, fierce.
The only last suggestion I have is "Кошмарный Волк". Both dreadful and nightmarish. So it has a second meaning - a wolf from nightmares, seems fitting, since Fen'harel roams the Fade
. One thing I don't like is that it is too long...
A hundred years late and very confused! Would someone kindly list the steps I need to take to have english subs instead of russian ones? I downloaded the game a couple of days ago (deluxe version with the JoH DLC) and just discovered this problem. Help would be really appreciated!
Guys i've got a huge problem with this game, it only installs in polish or russian, but if i do the steps in thread 705 the game loads forever.... and doesn't show up.....
Any1 has the latest english files? Share plz, my rift mage will be forever in your debt))
I think they are outdated already.
More like "never changed".
I've got the most recent DAI update + all freebie dlcs (MP+ BE), the international version from Brasil.
My intention is to keep that url valid as long as I can, in case someone needs those files. Can't promise anything, though. Enjoy!
Hopefully local 'Trespasser' is going to work just fine, I'm looking forward to get the DLC.
Guys i've a problem with outcome?? it asks me te origin code, but after i pick the code it says is invalid.... can someone post the lastest subtitles in english after this patch?
Guys can you upload the english files that are in the Patch folder too?? I need them, aswell i will need the english files for dlc trespasser when it comes out.
The English files are in Patch folder already by default. You just need to edit/rename them to your language (for ex. en.sub>ru.sub, en.toc>ru.toc for Russian to English and edit them with Notepad+ replacing all /en/ with /ru/).

yes mate, you're right, i hope the dlc will come out like this too.

i know how to do this, and it works for the game itself, put for the patch folder it won't work.... did it work for you? I mean, i do this, but the game loads forever...

I don't quite understand your statement //and it works for the game itself,....put for the patch folder it won't work//....
What I've done:
1. Got the files from the link you already have:
Must be this.
2. Renamed them to ru.sb and ru.toc
3. Edit them with Notepad++ (not Windows embedded Notepad!) replacing all /en/ with /ru/
4. Put them in /Game Folder/Data/Win32/loctext
5. Went to /Game Folder/Update/Patch/Data/Win32/loctext
6. Made a copy of en.sb and en.toc found there, renamed those copies to ru.sb & ru.toc and edited them the same way as above (again with Notepad++!)
7. Game runs just fine and all text is English.
i will need the english files for dlc trespasser when it comes out.
from what I know all the DLCs are initially international.
E.g. I've got Black Emporium from russian Origin for my 'foreign' Mexican DAI, and it's in English, same as those MP DLCs.
