IMPORTANT!

Meanwhile, some awesome news - I have made an arrangement with a volunteer from Germany who will share all the needed English files with our community as soon as the game is unlocked at the earliest possible time (MONDAY @ 15:00 GMT / 18:00 MSK). So everyone who wants to enjoy the proper English DA:I as early as possible (by using a VPN) will have such chance without ruining his experience by playing in Russian. And the rest that will wait till game is unlocked in their region will already have everything prepared for them.

I will post link to the necessary files here in this thread, so if you don't want to miss it - either subscribe to it to be notified by e-mail, or keep refreshing it around the above-mentioned time.

I think battlefield 4 language change procedure will work for DAI, directory structure and files  (loc, loctext and GDFBinary_ru_RU.dll) looks the same.

I managed to obtain file hashes to English preload and compare it to my Russian preload I downloaded from Origin

The only files that are differ files in __Installer folder(of no importance, probably contains list of files to delete on uninstall), files in Support folder (also of no importance, just docs in different languages) and most importantly files in Data\Win32\loctext folder: en.sb, en.toc for English version and ru.sb, ru.toc for Russian. The files hve approximately the same size and are to small to contain text localization.

After checking those files in text viewer I noticed that they contain only paths to actual localization files:

win32/loctext/en/text/da3/layouts/multiplayer/mporlais/mporlais01/mporlais01

da3/loc/texttable/en/da3/layouts/valroyeaux/val_blackwall_prison/val_blackwall_prison_win32

Those files are not present in preload and I believe they will only become available after the game launches in 3 days.

I hope copying those localization files from English version will be enough to play the game in a way it was intended instead of playing with butchered translation(I had bad experience with Russian DAO and i don't want that anymore)

By the way, the mentioned GDFBinary_ru_RU.dll is located in __Installer folder. Are you sure it's obsolete?

I'm not sure. It wouldn't hurt to have it too

It shouldn't be locked at all. We should be able to choose which language to use or download it in. It's weird.

Well, I can understand why EA restrict language selection. Smart people use vpn to buy game cheaper. If EA insist on keeping it's region policy, the should at least allow to buy&download separate language packs for any regions. Problem solved.

@Arthmost Sincere thanks to awesome guy.

I really don't see how it'd be necessary.

Maybe. I still prefer to have the CD. That way, I can just insert it into the CD drive anywhere and anytime. I expect my IP to change in the next couple of years - no VPN (whatever that is) necessary. If I lose everything - I lost access to a hotmail and yahoo mail account so this does happen - I just put the CD into my CD drive. And I understand how that works. Nothing to forget. No endless middleman. Less potential for complications down the road.

'Smart people' would STILL do so!.... And use the ways to make it English back again.

So, just because a random guy from, let's say, UK can potentially buy&play a game from our region, we're the ones punished with those restrictions. And not that it actually stops someone. The only way to restrict anything, is to prohibit the purchase & playing outside the 'native' cheaper region. Punish those who violate the laws, not those who happened to live in a region!

Yes, that's something steam does, and their system is not flawless and perfect, but neither is this 'Original' one.

Okay news from the battlefield.

Here are the files. Provided by Alucard45.

The problem is that Origin didn't download any new files on release. And after swapping these files around and also changing registry values to match the new ones and new language, there's an error when launching the game saying 'could not detect any of the entitled languages', as if the game is somehow protected from being launched in any other language but Russian.

Any professional input?

How about: buy a game to play that isn't in need of fixing.

You really shouldn't buy a premium priced video game the same way you invest when purchasing a house.

Did you swap them or simply added english ones? They probably shouldn't overwrite each other.

Are you sure this is the only thing to change ?

In :  locfacefx    there is a 817k file and a 32 mb also in the english version en.sb and en.toc.

I've swapped the .dll and the loctext files. I didn't leave any RU files in the folders.

I've also searched for every Dragon Age record in the registry and changed the corresponding key values to en_GB.

I've also used Windows Grep now to look through possible files with ru_RU in them left in the folder. It says that the Activation.dll and .exe contain them.

Well that's not how it worked with me3. You should probably keep Russian language files and simply add English ones. The game will(hopefully) detect additional files and let you change language using in game preferences menu. Also those files seem rather small, hard to believe they contain all the text.

@Arthmost

Can you explain what exactly have you done?

My guess is that one needs a complete install of Ru_DAI,  after which one should either add en. files from the complete En_DAI install into the folder 'as is' or renaming those into ru. Latter should spare us from reg_editing, let the game believe we still play in Russian, because, really, games do not read....unless DAI has a protection that entirely scans all the files upon launch and\or is told to check sum in the 'localtext' specifically.  If that's the case -  we're in trouble, and we need to wait for someone with the better coding skills. I can't do anything before tomorrow anyway.

So, what you need to do first - is to uninstall this thing entirely, redownload the full release and se what happens next (provided you've got your complete_en_DAI text files).

I have a full Russian install. I have received the files from someone with the full English game. I haven't renamed anything, only added the en files to the folders. It doesn't work. There's no option to change the language to English. If you leave only English files in the folders, the game won't start at all.

@ check your PM and try that one. If you're sure that you've got a clean and full install, and those files are 100% full files from En_DAI - skip straight to the latest part.

PS!!! I've checked your link there's NO way the entire DAI text has weight of 60kb!!!! Whatever it is - it does not content the localization itself!

I'd go as far as merging two clients(without overwriting), that way if we initially missed some files that are associated with english, they'll be there for sure. But it's going to be rather tedious.

Funnily enough, EA decided to catch up to USD exchange rate and has DAI price rise to 1799RUR for standard edition (was 1499) and to 1999RUR for Digital Deluxe (was 1799) from the moment of digital release, which is set at 18.11.2014 at 8:00 GMT.

P.S.
Could be that localisation files are embedded into resource database and not put into folders separately like they were in ME3. And russian version simply has no english text resources in it's compressed/encrypted RDB.

So, has anyone actually been able to somehow change the game to English - text as well as audio? I'd sacrifice the German text if it meant I could have everything in English, but I don't suppose there's a way yet?
