Soloing is not impossible.

Unless the doors require multiple characters to unlock, it is not impossible.

 

That doesn't mean that I will be able to do it !

 

But I am sure someone will, even if it involves stealth/attack/running-away over hours

Platinum came out with the Earth DLC as far as I remember. So no volus.

 

But we have this now.

 

You're right, maybe I was thinking about when the Volus were first released instead of Plat debut.

Re soloing, I have had a bit of trouble totally following the twitch events while doing other stuff (Excel work and such).

 

We see these class specific doors that have to be opened, I take it those are only for the optional treasure rooms?  If not then soloing will be impossible no?

Yup, those are optional treasure rooms.

So they beat the end boss in one match - is the last stage actually neverending unless you kill the boss?

At some point the mooks stopped spawning and they all focused fire on the boss to kill it. So I assume that there's a finite number of enemies that spawn during the last stage.
