I think this thread makes me hopeful.

This is not a concern of mine and it amuses me that anyone would find it problematic. ![]()
How about naming your Inquisitor "Inquisitor Inquistor"?
"I am Inquisitor Inquisitor, the Inquisitor of the Inquisition! HA!" ![]()
... okay, i'll let myself out.
I quite like the surnames. I like how it places your PC into the setting, and it gives others a way to refer to them by name. I've never even thought of how the first and last names flow, actually. Hmmm... Beatrix Adaar. Florence Trevelyan. Luthien Lavellan. I like how they sound. ![]()
Why does this even matter? It seems like such a frivolous thing to get upset over.
No one's going to call your inquisitor by their first name anyway. It's inconsequential.
Doesn't bother me, I'm just naming all my pcs Bob. Bill when I'm feeling edgy.

Sir, I like your moxie!
But seriously, Bill is a bit out there...
Ieldra, I could swear you're looking for things to complain about by now, because rarely have I seen you post any positive threads, if at all.
From everything I've read and watched of people's experiences with the game, the majority has been pretty damn positive. The 18th can't come soon enough.
I don't really spend too much time on names as they're meaningless outside of Save Game titles. No one ever referred to my Warden or Hawke by their first name.
I intend to do what I did with Mass Effect and past DA games; go with the default first name. Just like John Shepard saved the galaxy a dozen times, Alim Surana killed the Archdemon, and Garrett Hawke...lived in Kirkwall, Kaaras Adaar will seal the Breach and defeat the Elder One, and all with out anyone calling them by their first name.
Anna Adaar sounds perfectly fine to me. Fits both your criteria - ends in -a and single syllable.

Strangely my Shepards were pretty much all John. But 80% of my Hawke's had custom names. (And all but 1 Warden, so 92%, had custom names).
I have never had a problem with coming up with a name with set surnames. I actually enjoy the little challenge of thinking what would sound good with it. I have also always named characters(WoW, SWoTR, DA, ect) after Greek gods/godess or deities.
With my Fem! human mage for inquisition I wanted to keep my first in theme with the origin of the last name (which is Cornish). But I also wanted to keep with my personal theme. So I researched for hours on the Celtic gods. And found a perfect match:
Sirona Trevelyan.
Sirona is the goddess of healing. Which I thought very appropriate for a mage
And it was also pretty fun learning little facts about the surname Trevelyan. Such as: Trevelyan was the last name of Sean Bean's character Alec in the 007 movie Golden Eye.
And I even figured out the name of my next Inquis in the process. Lamia Levallan. Lamia was the mistress of the god Zeus, causing Zeus' jealous wife, Hera, to kill all of Lamia's children and transform her into a monster that hunts and devours the children of others.
So yea. not difficult. Just have to have an imagination. And I actually prefer having a surname, gives my character a connection to the world
I clearly don't understand the reason for concern.
If devs didn't decide on a surname, it'd be extremely weird to have everyone around you refer to you only as 'Inquisitor', not to mention impersonal.
A surname, whatever it might be, adds a little more depth to the PC.
This is not tabletop-RPG, some things are already set.
I actually wish we didnt name our characters, simply because it is so werid always being called by your last name. I mean, your 1st name is NEVER used in game, so I would rather have the narrative of the story seem more...normal in the conversations with you. I mean, ok, I admit I have some friends I call by their last name, but that is pretty rare. Whatcha going to do though, I could just hear the complaints about removing naming the 1st name of the character(even if it doesnt ever come into play in the game).
In DAO and DA2 I didn't have these problems because "Amell" and "Tabris" are both stressed on the first syllable, which imposes fewer limitations.
Kierro Adaar... Doesn't sound too bad, I also like a more Qunari name Ataashi Adaar - Dragon Fire Thrower, seems like a sweet name for a Pyromancer mage.
Also, the way I see the whole naming thing, is just to separate saves. You could call your guy Thing 1, Thing 2, Thing 3 4 5 6 7 etc etc.

Personally, I just think of the first names as filenames. An easy way to seperate my different characters if I'm away from the game for a while.

Yup same here. It is about the only thing naming your first name is good for(quite literally).
