It's something I'm curious about when it comes to BioWare games and romance arcs in them. Why is a child (seemingly) never conceived during a romance between the player-character and their romance of choice?

I think I understand why, at least I believe so (a timeskip would be needed to see...the results, and it seemingly adds nothing to the game), but, I think having a child in Dragon Age (or any BioWare game, for that matter) with your romance, and, perhaps, having them appear in future installments of the game, would be somewhat interesting.

Am I the only one who thinks this, am I silly for thinking this or what?

I'm no expert on Bioware games, but as far as I know, it was done once before (just didn't impact the game itself, like the OGB might).

In Baldur's Gate, if you romance Aerie, she will end up pregnant by the end of the game.

I think I remember reading somewhere on the boards that children wasn't in the cards for the games.  This is a good thing IMO.  Leaves the story open for player interpretation to determine their character's destiny.

I think it would be cool, but I don't see the Bioware folks doing it. Too much like the sims.

Morrigan and the Warden have a human, non-archdemon baby if she's romanced.

Well the dwarf noble could have had a son, also there is the possibility of the OGB with Morrigan. I think the idea is interesting, but for me to do it well it'd really need to be a major part of the plot. So i doubt we'll see it.

Basically having it just tacked on would seem strange and making something that would pretty much have to optional as a major plot point is an obvious non starter. Could well be wrong though :)

I would like a role playing game made by BioWare that spans on two or three generations with your companions having their own kids and you lead those other generations to achieve your goals. Would be interesting. If you don't play a straight protagonist, you could simply assume you and your love interest adopted a child which inherited your traits in the following generation or create a brand new character from scratch that takes on the title of leader.

Not everyone wants a child.

In ME3 Garrus asks Shepard if she'd be open to adopting kids and you can choose whether she agrees or thinks it's a bad idea.  There were other romances like that as well, I think, in that game.  Anders in DA2 states it like it's a big fat Duh! that you're going to be having kids.(I was a bit taken aback by that because I didn't picture a man trying to start a revolution would have time to do such a thing and my Hawke ain't a house wife.)

So, it has definitely been implied that some romances could lead to starting a family.  However, Bioware does it best when they leave it to the player to decide if their characters are going to have children or not. 'Cause every player is different.

Really, it'd just be a lot of work to make it mean anything and it would take the mother out of play for awhile (Bit of a problem if that's the PC, or even a companion).

It'd just be too disruptive for the narrative for an optional side activity like romances.

You could just strap the baby on your back and cure yourself with magic like Aerie I suppose....just lay down one day, pop out the kid, and save the world the next day!

(Note: not that any of that is realistic....)

I do believe you can actually have two children with two different women as a male dwarf noble and one with Morrigan.  Never played it myself but that's what I read.  XD

Maybe Anders wanted to be a house husband and when you said no, he moved onto plan B of blowing up the Chantry?

All that bloodshed could have been avoided with some baby Hawkes...

But, it'll disrupt the story too much, and if you do, you'll have people bitching and complaining that they didn't focus on the kid enough or how unrealistic it is that pregnant one second and fighting the next.

But that's what fanfiction and mods are for right?  XD For those things we need to see happen.

Yeah, you forgot OGB and Dwarf Origin. I am good with where Bioware is at with their romances. I didn't like it when Fable or Skyrim tried this idea. This should be left to player head canon.

Yeah, as others have pointed out, this actually happens in some Bioware games:

* Bhalspawn and Aerie in BG 2 (the baby is even an inventory item!)

* The Warden and Morrigan in DA: O (either the OGB or a non-god baby)

* The dwarf noble Warden and Mardi in DA: O

* Several of the SWTOR romances, from what I hear, although I don't have details on which ones

He says that after he blew up the Chantry, though.  In the conversation before the final bosses.

Oh ok. That makes no sense. Hey, I just blew up the Chantry, and I'm going to be the most wanted criminal in Thedas. How about settling down and making some babies? (Eye roll)

You can tell I never romanced Anders. Hated that character myself.

He got the murder knife. Every time.

Exactly, that's why I was so surprised by it.  Not to mention him having done this means the kids would be in danger too.  Nope, bad idea Anders!  ...  :P

I thought the kids in Skyrim were a rather sophisticated developer troll myself. Who says they want the ability to have kids in the game and actually means "I hope I can adopt some of these annoying children that always get in my way when I try to walk through the town?"

Anyone? Show of hands.

I think most people were hoping to have evil dark elf babies with Jenassa. Or maybe that was just me....

And isn't Morrigan's kid supposed to appear in DAI? OGB or just a normal kid regardless?

So yeah... kinda curious to see how she has raised my Warden's son.

SPOILER!!!

How about not being able to kill them but do anything and they run straight to the guards.  Killing the children was the first mod I installed.

DAO doesn't really count. Mardy wasn't a really a romance, and Morrigan left. I'd like to see a case of going a step beyond that and the PC and LI staying together to raise the kid, perhaps even have the kid born within the span of the game. That said, it doesn't always fit the story, especially for feme PCs who can't be out of action for that time frame.

DA2 was actually a really good opportunity to this thanks to the time skips. Alas, Merrill and Hawke remained childless for three years.

To be fair. You don't sleep with anyone till year 2.  Well that we know of. For all we know Hawke was a ****** spreading it all around.

What about Aveline or Isabele????
