Complete marketing ploy. That said, this is so true of the community here:

Lol the comments "Red is so evil and manipulating for cutting out content and give it for free, I'm glad good companies like Ubisoft and EA exist that charge money for their cut out DLC."

They are not free. They are included in the price of game. It's like you go to the supermarket and find that you can get a pack of 20g potato chips when you buy a pack of 200g chips. Free is good. But the most important thing is that the chips should be delicious. I won't blame the company who don't give me free chips.

Witcher costs 59,99 dollars, regular price. That's the standard price for any video games these days. They're not charging you extra unless you want like collecters editions or something. Your point is moot.

Yeah, but let's say I make a game that costs 60 dolalrs.

I take away a hairstyle from the game.

I add that hairstyle as DLC at launch.

free hairstyle everyone!

Better than taking said hairstyle out and charging $0.99

And the fund of making DLCs comes from that 59.99 dollars. It's just like "buy a big one and get a small one for free". Is it good? Yes. At least it looks good. Is it necessary? Of course not. The most important thing is the quality of the product.

Absolutely agree.

that would be worse.

Still, it's a marketing trick, that's all I'm stating.

The bait is strong in this thread.I don't see why people even have this childish fanboy arguments about which series is the best and which isn't.

It may or may not be. Maybe it's the 16 most common complaints with TW3's development. And in turn they're responding with 16 patches, but are calling it DLC because it's better PR...

But that is just the difference between how corps handle things, the witcher isn't a big title in some markets currently so doubt Microsoft offered red a big fat wad of cash for the first dlc. So we can't really say how red might have responded differently if they where offered a lot of money.

Actually Microsoft did and CDProjekt Red stood by their claim that they would offer no exclusive DLC for any platform.

People are getting these features to their games for free. Whether the reason being that CDPR couldn't implement them into the game in time or not matters little. Yes, it is a publicity stunt. So? CDPR is a compay first and foremost, them already having a reputation of having free DLCs is something they would naturally use to their advantage.

I find this to be a petty thing to argue about.

I'm going to repost this, because you're all silly as hell.

The game would be shipped as a final build. There would be DLC team(s) to create dlc (for extra money) and they would start way before release. (notice how they start DA:I during da2?)
So.. no.. nothing was removed. It is DLC and theyre giving it away free. Not a marketing ploy (although it is a marketing strategy, it is not what you make it out to be)

Yes, CDPR's player-friendly behavior helps their loyality, but is it a bad thing?

I really don't see the point of taking minor bits and pieces of the game and putting them in free DLC that will come after release.

Why not just put them in the original game? It's just a few cosmetic editions and/or small quests.

It's just a marketing trick, I am unimpressed.

I hate DLC, is a excuse for milking money and developers going lazy... and a perfect excuse for consumers to GO PIRATE

Look buddy.. gaming is not a very profitable industry. You put millions into a game at a flat $60 rate and HOPE you sell millions in a week before it's value depreciates.

DLC (such as Leliana's song) provides hours of continuation for tens of dollars. You can't even buy DINNER for that these days. My trivial car problem this week costed me $400. I'm more than happy to pay $5/hr for entertainment to support bioware.

Edit:

By not very profitable I mean- figuratively speaking / proportionally to other industries.

Seems like they're trying pretty hard to pad out that number of 16 DLC to make it look bigger.

but hey, free stuff is free stuff.

I could have sworn I already posted this in the Witcher 3 thread. Why exactly did it need its own thread?

Well originally it was supposed to be a thread about Bioware's plans for Dragon Age Inquisition DLC but then the Dragon Age defense squad saw that the thread contained the words "Witcher" and "CD Projekt" and took it as a threat to Bioware's Integrity and derailed the thread in an effort to convince us all that CD Projekt Red are evil for giving out free DLC.

Hey, does any of this DLC allow me to play as someone other than Geralt, who I find utterly unlikeable?

I have nothing against CDPR, but their fanboys on the BSN spent half their time bashing any of us who liked ME2, DA2, etc. I hope that trend doesn't come back on the new forum.

Ah BioWare/Dragon Age vs CDPR/Witcher fanboy wars.

It's like console wars, but somehow manages to be even dumber.

You mean like the class armor sets in DA2?   You know what they really should have done is taken all these aesthetic extras they are giving away free and the soundtrack they are giving away as part of every edition wrapped it up in a deluxe edition and made people pay $10 more for.  Maybe make that DLC timed exclusive for specific platforms....brillant!

Regardless about how you feel about CDPR or the Witcher games, it shouldn't be debatable that they try to go out of their way to treat their fans right and earn their respect.

It's nice that they're doing it.

I don't see EA changing the business model they're using any time soon, so I don't expect anything like that would ever happen with DA:I.

There's really only 2 possibilities here.

Either 1, they have taken content out of the game to give back as free "DLC" to make themselves look good(which you seem to believe them incapable of doing)

Or 2, the DLC are going to be so insignificant that they are capable of making two of them in a week. Which doesn't impress me.

Lol, no. Both EA and CDPR give away free content. Both devs have explained much of that comes from cut or unused assets they can put into the game after release. The sheer amount CDPR puts in may stand out, but the practice is the same. TW2 had extensive additions, and the MP support for Mass Effect 3 was in turn a good move from EA. None of this post release support was trivial.
